That is a line that is repeated throughout the films. The first part is generally a brit and Jack is the second part.

But the ranks master chief petty officer and master chief petty officer of the navy are normally abbreviated to master chief anyway.

Master Chief is a very good cook and can be a Chef if he wants.

I wondered why a master chief was taking orders... and not commanding a ship.

i guess its because its still only an enlisted rank.

well Idk much. but I will after the Navy recruiters teach me the terminology.. but for now, ill be guessing on rank names and orders.

I also asked if we had a Space Command yet... they said no :(

Well on the bright side. it has already been decided that space combat in the future will be dictated as naval, so you could potentially be in space command in the future.

Its another of those science-fiction becoming science things. Nerds always referred to space battles as naval conflicts due to the boat-like appearance of the quintessential starship. This became pretty engrained and actually made quite a bit of sense, so when the question arose, it was decided that the navy would handle auronautics.

I get that, but why wouldn't the US military just create another branch?

It will probably be an independent branch, but simply be nominally referred to as navy. Just like the unsc is "space command" but it uses naval terminology.
