a=GM/R^2
M=a*r^2/G

1*5^2/6.67*10^-11 = 2.8*10^11 kg

I think. Haven't done Physics for about a year.

(mv^2/r)=(Gmm/r^2)
(mv^2/r)=(Gmm/r^2)
(v^2)=(Gm/r)
(rv^2)=(Gm)
(rv^2/G)=(m)
5(1^2)/6.67E-11=m
m=74962518740.6
m=7E10

*kg

And I hate to be "that dick" that tries to show off his math skills any time the subject comes up, but this is actually the exact unit I'm studying in physics, and this actually kind of helped me.
#10 to #8 - physicsdude (11/30/2012) [-]
You are given the acceleration a=1 m/s^2. You use the given acceleration as velocity which is wrong.
Use the formula: F=ma=GMm/r^2 giving:
a=GM/r^2
M=a*r^2/G
M= 1*5^2/6.67*10^-11=2.8*10^11 kg

Sorry to be THAT DICK that tries to show off his math skills(though you didn't fail on the math just understanding the physics) any time some one makes a misscalculation. mistakes
#29 to #10 - N. Korean citizen (11/30/2012) [-]
In his defense, his name is theBarneyStinson and yours is physicsdude. If the question was on women, we'd know who to ask.
#30 to #29 - physicsdude (11/30/2012) [-]
Indeed. Though he stated "this is actually the exact unit I'm studying in physics". Which leads me to believe that he should know about this stuff. I learned this in the danish equivalent of highschool, so to be that far off when you study it.

#25 to #10 - ReyJavikVI (11/30/2012) [-]
While you did use the correct formula, I don't know how you got 25/6.67 = 2.8. The mass is 3.75*10^11 kg. According to Wikipedia, that's around the mass of the whole human species.

So yeah, yo momma so fat she weighs more than all the other mommas in the world.
#26 to #25 - physicsdude (11/30/2012) [-]
I honestly have no idea how I've managed that. Cudos for correcting it.

This implies my mother is a point mass?
#12 to #4 - physicsdude (11/30/2012) [-]
Not at all. Any huge object can be seen as a point of mass at its center of mass when calculating the gravitational pull.
For example when calculating the earths gravitational pull, you take the entire mass of the earth and use its center as the point. So it is calculated as if it is simply a point of mass. This is the same for ANY object.
