I'm no expert but... why is it on stilts?
I mean if it's on ice, it would be best to spread it's weight, and thus the stilts would only focus it's weight, thus putting extra strain on the ice.

It can walk I did a presentation on it once. Here's a youtube link showing it in action:

I think it is so that the coldness from the ice would not transfer to the metal and make the inside even colder, putting less strain on the heating source. It is possibly not on ice over water, or if it is than maybe it is extremely thick. This is just my theory idk if I am actually right or not.
