If you run a good counter trap deck, like this one.
Then it's broken, any troll deck, that works, is broken.
Also, the control decks almost always have a solution to stop the opponent who swarms.

It's funny, I'm 22 and I quit about 6 years ago. Me and an old friend were just talking about YuGiOh cards.
I quit at around the time they reintroduced Mirror Force as an unbanned card.
I had a shit ton of good cards, used to play for keeps against the kids who didn't know any better at my local tournament(s). Ended up giving them to my neighbor, who in turn got jumped for them.

I also have a missprint "Goblin Attack Force" somewhere around here. I hid it from myself, and haven't found it since.
Instead of having 2,300 atk/ 0 def it had 2300 atk and 2300 def, on top of that the name wasn't in the normal spot. It was down going into the stars.
Depending on the tourny - I was or was not allowed use of the card.

Looking up the banned list, and my god they really fucked up.
I ended up quitting because overuse of the forbidden list. I won a couple tourneys, and I always thought that if they kept banning cards everyone would be playing with essentially the same deck.
Now they just went full retard.
2x mirror force?
3x Swords of revealing light?

I enjoyed this when I was young.
Though I didn't give two shits of owning real cards.
I bought cheap ones sold from ice cream trucks.

There needs to be a fusion between this guy and Captain Tenacious

i constructed my deck to dispose of my enemy quickly and painlessly. just cause you have a brutally awesome sword with spikes n' stuff doesnt mean that you can beat a gun. you probably despise my cards cause they are so effective at what they have to do.

in games i really want to enjoy, i just use my healing deck. its mostly cards that bulk up my lp to the 20,000s, and then i put down high defense cards like millennium shield, since people i play against are usually lacking on anything higher then 4000 atk, i generally just wait for them to run out of cards, or if i dont have time i use my 5 headed dragon with a couple of equips and i finish in one attack. i was sort of a douche as a kid

From SDDC. Starter deck dragons collide, came out like this year lol (yes i know its a reprint)
its from the fist season, the last story ark of the show, everyone goes into the millenium puzzle to find the pharohs lost memories or something (its been around a year or 2 since i've seen it so it might not be how it goes exactly)

There are a lot of smaller, fast dragons now and Lord of D. (Dragons) can protect them quite effectively by forcing the opponent to spent his time dealing with him first, and it lets you use the Flute of Summoning Dragon to play any two dragons from your hand. It's not as effective if you're playing a game with banned cards allowed, but it's an excellent cheap stall tactic to buy enough time to overwhelm an opponent.

It's an issue of game balance. While a lot of the older cards are super weak compared to now, many others were mechanically over powered or just plain broken, and it only got worse as more sets were released and more workarounds were discovered by players; infinite turns, brutal milling... Even I had a deck that didn't allow my opponent to even play monsters at all. And because of the way rares were distributed with the boosters, whoever had money and ebay accounts had the victories.
Yea most of the old cards are next to useless now days , because there are new cards with just to rediculous of effects that can do the same and more . Lord is actualy one of the good oldies that can still be used in a dragon deck and not be though as a weight .
Kuriboh is still badass.
And Blue eyes is the strongest normal monster in the game.
Most old cards can be found to have a "Cheap Trick" with them that keeps them usefull. Not all though.
(Kuriboh + multiply = Ravel;
Lord of D + Divine Dragon R = King Dragon;
Exodia + appropriate = easy win [2-6 turns, no battles];
Blue eyes/Red Eyes/ Dark Magician with Ancient rules. Delta Attacker, or Birthright,
Low level 2's with Law of the Normal and Triangle power.
&ect)
