STOP BREAKING DOWN MY WORDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'M SORRY! no but really even if a song has a good melody if the lyrics have no meaning and suck it ruins the whole song for me.

Oh no you didn't just insult Jazz, I don't care who you are BB king is the greatest, his concerts still sell out, I went to one.

User avatar #342 to #335 - hydraetis (11/27/2012) [-]
whoever made the pic didn't really insult jazz. the point they were trying to make is that in general rock guitarists receive far more recognition for their lesser amount of skill while jazz guitarists receive far less recognition for their greater amount of skill.
User avatar #343 to #342 - darkjustifier (11/27/2012) [-]
Well then.......I apologize.
#339 to #335 - anonymous (11/27/2012) [-]
Pretty sure it wasn't an insult to jazz...
#333 - bleachyourworks (11/27/2012) [-]
Complexity does not equal great music. It's a good factor but it's not really that needed. The quality of music is really that of opinion.
User avatar #328 - eraq (11/27/2012) [-]
You should tell that to john Petrucci...
User avatar #326 - fetuseater (11/27/2012) [-]
My guitar teacher was a jazz guitarist and would always joke about me when i wanted to learn how to play a rock song. When he would teach me jazz it was significantly harder holy fuck... idk how anyone is able to play that.
User avatar #325 - friendlysniff (11/27/2012) [-]
yeah, what ever. 'Cause when I "rocker" drops a solo it really shows off how untalented he is. Most "rocker" guitar players are playing for the rhythm of the song you dip.

Rock is the evolution of jazz, most rock music is mostly blues scales and chords
User avatar #314 - arabiddrummer **User deleted account** (11/27/2012) [-]
This isn't really an insult to musicians. Jazz is so complex. It's hard for a lot of people (including a musician like myself) to follow it. Rock music is (relatively) simple and easy to follow. Thus being catchy and more appealing to the masses.

#305 - BringerOfDoom (11/27/2012) [-]
Annnnd death metal guitarists play 3,000 complex notes with little recognition too, only difference is jazz isn't instantly considered "just a bunch of noise/screaming" people need to expand their minds when it comes to music
#417 to #305 - anonymous (11/27/2012) [-]
Actually melodically metal is very simple, the amount of complexity that goes into jazz especially solos is absolutely ridiculous, I can play all kinds of metal songs, but jazz reaches an entirely different level of musical complexity.

Who is that and what band does he belong to?
User avatar #348 to #305 - hydraetis (11/27/2012) [-]
Only reason why I normally hate metal is the damned vocals (I'm not a fan of screamo/growling over long periods of a song), BUT you can give me any random metal song and chances are I'll love the shit out of the guitar.
#367 to #348 - anonymous (11/27/2012) [-]
NOT ALL METAL IS SCREAMING OR GROWLING. Sorry, but people need to fucking understand this. Listen to Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Metallica, Megadeth, or any other 70s-80s metal band and you'll definitely LOVE it. Not only do they have clean vocals, but some have soaring vocals that are worthy of opera (ex: Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden). Eventually you'll get into the heavier stuff slowly, moving from Iron Maiden, to Pantera, to Death, whatever.
User avatar #377 to #367 - hydraetis (11/27/2012) [-]
Still normally don't like the vocals period on most metal songs.
User avatar #320 to #305 - billybobjoeii (11/27/2012) [-]
I think it has more to do with the fact that Metal has lyrics.
User avatar #327 to #320 - silasdg (11/27/2012) [-]
Jazz can have lyrics.. It's not common but it does occur.
User avatar #329 to #327 - billybobjoeii (11/27/2012) [-]
A valid point.
#318 to #305 - anonymous (11/27/2012) [-]
And death metal guitarists use so much distortion that all you end hearing is noise.
#376 to #318 - anonymous (11/27/2012) [-]
Not all of them, you should check out Nile or Dethklok. Distortion has came a long ways too, with great lengths being made so that you can hear all of the notes in a chord distinct from each other even with heavy amounts of gain nowadays. Either way, i look at metal the same way I look at wine Connosieurs, to most people expensive wine tastes like dirt and vinegar, but to people that drink it all the time the little details and characteristics make a difference. The same is true of Metal, it's a bold flavor and an acquired taste; if you aren't used to music with mountains of distortion, the subtleties of the structure are going to be lost on you.

User avatar #300 to #299 - ing (11/26/2012) [-]
I, IV and V

sure, there might be a few 7th and 9th chords tossed in, but other than that, it follows the basic pattern
User avatar #311 to #300 - sooperdooper (11/27/2012) [-]
thats blues that uses that pattern mostly, jazz is more of a wide title for the whole spectrum of music
User avatar #442 to #311 - ing (11/27/2012) [-]
That's fair enough :P

But the same goes for rock. Every genre will have too many aspects to generalize this much
