Instead of writing an elaborate rant about how much I hate these kind of people, I'll just go ahead and say that people who think like this should get fucked with a rake.
#366 - Sylphion (11/26/2012) [-]
Religion or not, there's still a loose sense of what's right and wrong. I mean really, was there really a point in the Crusades? Hundreds of thousands of people slaughtering each other in the name of their gods/who gets dibs on Jerusalem, kind of pointless in my opinion.

On the other hand, not believing in whatever god that the majority of your society doesn't mean that you can do whatever the fuck you want without fear of divine retribution, there's still something called the law, which can be horribly painful to go against

Yeah, fuck morals.
*flips table* I can do whatever the fuck I want.

to me id rather be ignostic than atheist. there are too many questions and not enough information to determine. And being atheist means you know for a fact there is not a good. So unless you have studied every religious book and talked to every human on Earth.. you might not be an atheist
User avatar #353 - chrystof (11/26/2012) [-]
I find it funny that when a post bashing religion comes on here all the religious people get butthurt and are told "it's just a joke" by atheists and now a post not even bashing either of the two and it's the atheists that are butthurt and religious people saying "it's just a joke".

Can we not just agree that there are good and bad religious people, and good and bad atheists.

I'm a gamer.
Take a long time to figure out how that is somewhat related to religion...
Just...Just think.
User avatar #343 - charagrin (11/26/2012) [-]
I am athiest, and a good person. And technically that makes my good will more valid then a religious persons good will. I am a good person for the sake of being a good person, a religious person is a good person for the reward. And even if they were a good person for the sake of being a good person, they do so believing that they will get rewarded, which kind of taints their whole view. It's kind of like doing chores, a good kid will do a chore because it is a responsibility, another good kid will do it for allowance. etc.

What a bunch of crap.
User avatar #346 to #344 - charagrin (11/26/2012) [-]
How so. Those who do good without reward are the truly deserving. Basic logic. A good example would be: Who would you rather have as a friend, a friend who truly likes you, or a friend who truly likes you when you give him/her stuff?
User avatar #352 to #346 - DoktorHax (11/26/2012) [-]
consider the following; god is not supposed to be your friend. he is supposed to be your creator, which means he can do what the hell he wants. the whole bible is about handing the free will he gave you back. that shits hard to do. its not just say 3 hail mary's and your sins are forgiven. blah blah blah, im drunk, fuck you.
User avatar #355 to #352 - charagrin (11/26/2012) [-]
I agree, if he exists then his will would be law as his will is ultimate power, but power does not equal truth. Even if a all powerful deity who created everything does exist, his idea of right and wrong are just that, his idea. No more, no less. That is why I do not like the idea of the Christian God in general, nothing against those who do, I just do not. He gave us free will and encourages us to think for ourselves, then penalizes us for questioning everything and doing as we please. That is like giving a kid a toy, telling him to play and have fun with it, then grounding him when he does.
User avatar #361 to #355 - DoktorHax (11/26/2012) [-]
well, he wants you to see the toy, realise that the toy will get you nowhere fast, and hand the toy back because all it leads to is a generation of slutty, small minded idiots. if used like people want it to be used. but when one reads the bible all the way through, not just all the baby sweet jesus crap, one realises that it is not a bad way to live. too many people look at one person, or a group of people that are using it as an excuse to do whatever they want, because "hey man, its an age of grace! we can do whatever we want because we are instantly forgiven!"
User avatar #362 to #361 - charagrin (11/26/2012) [-]
A good point. What also always annoyed me was his Omnipotence. If he knows everything whether it has happened or not, then he knows what we will do. This means that a pedophile rapist murderer could rape and kill a child, and repent and go to Heaven. This means God knew he was going to commit horrible acts before he did them, and rewarded him for it. This also means he sentenced the child to a horrible death, and hell.
User avatar #365 to #362 - DoktorHax (11/26/2012) [-]
god gave us FREE WILL. we have the ability to do what we want to. and no, neither you nor i dont get why that shit happens, but remember, if that rapist has not truly repented, as in, weeping and gnashing of teeth style, and actually means his repentance, he will havew to answer for every soul that he damaged. though i personally think that pedophilia is an unforgivable sin, because, "do unto the children, and you have done unto me". or something similar. what the biblke says that god wants is for us to conquer the flesh, or in other words, give the free will back.
#369 to #365 - anonymous (11/26/2012) [-]
I'm not really religious or anything like that, but didn't the devil give humans free will?
User avatar #433 to #369 - charagrin (11/26/2012) [-]
Satan convinced Adam and Eve to eat of the Tree Of Knowledge, whether that gave free will, self awareness, or whatever else is up to interpretation.

#338 - anonymous (11/26/2012) [-]
I absolutely hate it when religious people think that moral is always connected to religion. There's a dozen more ways to define moral and immoral than what God (according to some book or people) wants + the conception of a God who gives a damn about the choises people make (vs. just affects people's lifes randomly or based on sacrificies) is very new if you think how long people have had religions.

It's all about how you're raised, if I was raised by extremist muslims in a 3rd world country, I'd likely be impartial to death or murder, but on the other hand, being raised by an average middle class family in a 1st world country would have the opposite effect, as the morals of both my parents and the society in live in would shape my views.

Well I'm happy that I don't need to stone people for cursing or blaspheming, adultery, women who aren't virgins on her wedding night, worshiping other gods, disobeying parents, "Witches and Wizards", breaking Sabbath, and the list goes on.
