F1 cars follow a guideline stating that the driver must be able to exit the vehicle in less than five seconds and most drag racers follow this guideline as well. This means they utilize a quick release steering wheel to hasten their exit from the vehicle. Now I could be wrong because he looked a bit confused trying to replace the steering wheel, but the most common quick release system is operated at the base of the steering column and it looks like he may have grabbed the wrong thing. I posted the source so look for yourself but as far as i can tell this appears to be what happened.

In funny cars you don't need to remove the wheel to get out the roof hatch, but when he reached down he was shifting the car into high gear, as you sit pretty much on the transmission in these cars. In an interview he said the shaft had broken.

It's supposed to be about cars, but it has other vehicles in it as well, It's mainly comical, it and the presenters have loads of different challenges set for them. Just search for it on youtube and you will get the idea

Top Gear is its own genre. Its a British car show, but its hilarious. I suppose it could be considered comedy, or entertainment.

Yeah... usually not when you're driving 100+ miles an hour though. Pretty sure you'd want that steering wheel to stay on the steering column... you know... so you can steer.
