User avatar #108 to #107 - mylazy (11/21/2012) [-]

so why is the Mona Lisa the best painting inthe world when this should be **** ****** its got paintings in the painting
#130 to #102 - mrcrowleysr (11/21/2012) [-]
because it was the first portrait painting in which no matter from which angle you look at it, it's eyes will always follow you, I thinks that's the main reason why it became so famous.
User avatar #111 to #102 - crazyhindu (11/21/2012) [-]
because of that dumb hoe's "mysterious smile" while in truth she was most likely a hooker that he picked up had sex with and painted, some theory i heard a while ago.
#117 to #111 - apocalypseboyz (11/21/2012) [-]
The theory that I like is that it's a self-portrait of Leonardo as a women.
User avatar #118 to #117 - crazyhindu (11/21/2012) [-]
huh, ive never actually heard that one
#124 to #118 - apocalypseboyz (11/21/2012) [-]
in b4 wall of text.
#123 to #118 - apocalypseboyz (11/21/2012) [-]
Yeah, I knew about if before the whole Da Vinci code thing, but that's where the theory got really popular. Leonardo most likely was gay (there's evidence all over, such as him never beng recorded with a woman, never marrying and lavishing gifts on one of his apprentices), so maybe he self-identified as a woman or something. And that, my dear crazyhindu, is the reason for the smile.

Honestly though, we'll never know for sure.
Technology has discovered that the Mona Lisa has been painted over many times and what is most likely the original layer, she is wearing what is to be believed the pregnancy robes of the time, so perhaps she's smiling 'cause she's about to plop out a baby? Who knows for sure, the original reason died the the Renaissance man himself.

Oh **** son, someones about to get all pretentious up in here!
User avatar #131 to #128 - Riukanojutsu (11/21/2012) [-]
my point being, this piece of art isnt about what you see
its about the message
but you know, youll get it once you grow a lil
User avatar #265 to #131 - chezburgadominator (11/21/2012) [-]
You sound exactly like those pretentious assholes who buy this type of stuff. A message in art is implied, left for our interpretation, that usually means it starts off showing EFFORT and this, looks like **** . Forget the "message" it sends, if you are able to find one then it isn't there, you're just over-analyzing it. Which is what everyone does with art now, they see **** , over-anaylze it to be some genious piece of work, and buy it for a giant sum of cash just because they can have "an original work".
User avatar #328 to #265 - Riukanojutsu (11/22/2012) [-]
did i ever said i knew what the message was, but you know, kill the messenger.

disaproving the comercialisation of art is a thing
talking **** about art is another

That's like saying you'll plant a dildo in your front yard instead of a tree. "Nononono you see the dildo is about how I like to go outside in the middle of the night and have sex with my lawn, It's about stopping world hunger"

User avatar #135 to #132 - Riukanojutsu (11/21/2012) [-]
thats the problem with your reasoning, there is no link between dildo and world hunger
#136 to #135 - thekieran ONLINE (11/21/2012) [-]
And what link is there between a bunch of squares and anything else?
User avatar #143 to #136 - Riukanojutsu (11/21/2012) [-]
i dont know, but if i had the title of the piece and the social context in wich it was created maybe it would be understandable

Whoa isn't this the internet? Aren't we supposed to hate on artist and art students? Where are the comments about art students are ******* fags and waste their money on trying to achieve art?
User avatar #87 to #74 - Yardie (11/21/2012) [-]
Who ever said it was a waste?

It's how you use it that counts. Some people aren't cut out for other fields, some people aren't even cut out for college. Those that take art classes should probably know that they won't make much money in the field, but its a field that they enjoy, so why have them try to go into something like engineering where they probably won't even make it?
#84 to #74 - intrepidy ONLINE (11/21/2012) [-]
No, that is modern art where you have an empty can on a piece of string and sell it for millions. Actual artistic skill we applaud.
