Actually if they would legally sell marijuana in stores the income form it's taxes would lower the dept significantly...
User avatar #17 to #15 - Icedangel ONLINE (11/08/2012) [-]
Everyone thinks this, but not really. The high price of weed is only because the danger involved in it. For example a gram of high quality weed in Cali is 7$ or so. A gram of so-so weed in IA is 15-20$.

Take away the danger and the price drops. The taxes wouldn't hurt though.

And also those numbers might not be exact. I'm relying on a stoner friend of mine for prices. She's bought in IA and Cali and has told me of the better quality and price. IA weed value was as of a month ago and may be subject to changes.
User avatar #31 to #17 - flipkore (11/09/2012) [-]
Where the hell are you getting high quality weed for 7 bucks in Cali, oh my.
User avatar #33 to #31 - Icedangel ONLINE (11/09/2012) [-]
Not myself, my friend. She lived iinn.. Dammit, southern cali? A believe in a palce called chico?
User avatar #97 to #33 - flipkore (11/09/2012) [-]
ahh well a gram in most places even here in socal tend to go for 20
User avatar #26 to #17 - darthtomale (11/08/2012) [-]
i can vouch for this. a gram of kush goes for 20 in north east texas.
User avatar #38 to #26 - Icedangel ONLINE (11/09/2012) [-]
Yeah, that sounds about right. I know people can get a LOT of money from the good **** . My friend and I plotted it out and figured that we could profit more than 5k if we were to smuggle it to IA. But that brings the 'risk' factor up, which drives up the price.

But, sadly, I'm not a drug lord. Whats the point of a bad ass title if you can;t use it.
#24 to #17 - Cyraxx ONLINE (11/08/2012) [-]
I understand but the lower prices would mean more consumers just like it being legal would mean a lot more people would buy it so it would almost be the same. High Price - "Low Consumption" vs Low Price - High Consuption.
User avatar #35 to #24 - Icedangel ONLINE (11/09/2012) [-]
What the guy below said. They also limit the amount you can buy at once.

I'm not saying it wouldn't help the economy, but it's not some kind of magic bail out plant. It would have many benefits. It'd allow the use of hemp in things like paper. With that in paper we wouldn't have to cut down as many trees to make paper. The pure mass of plants that would pop up would probably help the environment.

But with hemp in paper products, people who cut down trees might have a backlash effect.

Legal does not guarantee more users. Drugs are still drugs.

It won't lower unemployment, but people will stop complaining about it.
User avatar #8 - winsauceiswin (11/08/2012) [-]
one of my best friends (studying mechanical engineering) has all A's in college right now. we're taking the same classes: calc 2, physics, engineering and applied sciences, computer science and programming, and english (lol). i have a B in physics and try harder than he does. i think this is proof that smoking weed does not inhibit your abilities in any way. if he can do a whole grade better than me (with less effort and while smoking weed when i don't) then i have no reason to believe pot will affect employment in those willing to try.

Or your friend is just smarter?
User avatar #20 to #8 - zwappes (11/08/2012) [-]
even tho people say ''omg it does not hurt you'' it affects memory over time and smoke in general will hurt your lungs, not as much as tobaco smoke do but it still does affect you.
User avatar #10 to #8 - derpwolf (11/08/2012) [-]
It can affect your memory over long periods of time.
User avatar #11 to #10 - winsauceiswin (11/08/2012) [-]
well i haven't had enough personal experience with it so only time will tell if that's true
User avatar #12 to #11 - derpwolf (11/08/2012) [-]
Well, I hope you don't experience anything too crippling. Have a nice day.
User avatar #13 to #12 - winsauceiswin (11/08/2012) [-]
i don't smoke weed, i meant experience around it. i haven't studied it's affects on my friend for long enough. like i said before though, only time will tell

User avatar #5 - vmandude (11/08/2012) [-]
actually, marijuana legalization will help some get jobs...with it being legal, you can no longer be disqualified from work for having traces of it in your system, so pot heads can now get jobs they couldn't before.
#19 to #5 - deathbyrevenge (11/08/2012) [-]
Just because it is legal doesn't mean the company has to change their policies.

User avatar #4 - ThpiderMan (11/08/2012) [-]
I don't give a **** about what you think about pot, I think it's a hell of a lot calmer of an alternative to alcohol, and arguably safer for you, i just think it should be legal so the government can be making money off taxing the **** out of it instead of criminals getting richer by the day.
User avatar #21 to #4 - zwappes (11/08/2012) [-]

it's actually worse for the lungs than tobacco. that's why you cough a lot more
User avatar #28 to #25 - zwappes (11/09/2012) [-]
yea but with sigarettes you got tar and all that ****
User avatar #30 to #28 - churrundo (11/09/2012) [-]
weed has 10 times the amount of tar tobacco has. it's covered in resin that you burn and inhale. at least tobacco is dry

User avatar #39 to #37 - mmmribs (11/09/2012) [-]
$450,000,000 dollars projected through marijuana sales here yearly. (Washington) You don't honestly believe the weed just ******* trims and bags itself do you? There will be thousands of jobs created annually through harvest and production. (That's if it actually lasts. I honestly don't give it 6 months before the feds shut it down or potheads **** it up by trying to make their own money)
#53 to #39 - anonymous (11/09/2012) [-]

So what you are saying is. Use potential people who can actually do some good in a different job set, such as building houses /etc should instead harvest weed?
User avatar #85 to #47 - mmmribs (11/09/2012) [-]
No, I'm saying the ******** without jobs that are smoking weed instead of going to get a job, are salivating at an opportunity to work with pot although they don't, but I do know, that inevitably they will blow that opportunity via greed. And again become jobless.
User avatar #1 - fuckingkeelin (11/08/2012) [-]
it's cool, everyone can become dealers now
User avatar #18 to #1 - Icedangel ONLINE (11/08/2012) [-]
The regulation of weed is still pretty high. You have to have a permit to have enough plants to deal.

However, if you do get a permit and follow the rules you can sell to weed shops.
User avatar #27 to #18 - fuckingkeelin (11/08/2012) [-]
still even if it's pretty strict it's still a massive leap forward.. hopefully the rest of the world will follow.. making a plant that has no major side effects illegal, and keeping alcohol and cigarettes legal is crazy.. we should have all three! :D
