English flag
User avatar #255 - awesomenessdefined (09/26/2012) [-]
It's more like Britain has 63.8% and the US has 74.1% atleast in 2007
User avatar #248 - stcronin (09/26/2012) [-]
Ya 63 and 64 are completely inaccurate
#239 - threenippledcousin (09/26/2012) [-]
nice england flag you got there OP

www.ic.nhs.uk/webfiles/publications/003_Health_Lifestyles/OPAD12/Statistics_on_Obesity_Physical_Activity_and_Diet_England_2012.pdf

page 6- "A greater proportion of men than women (42% compared with 32%) were classified as overweight in 2010"

that doesn't equal 63%....
#364 to #230 - N. Korean citizen (09/26/2012) [-]
OP just mixed up overweight and obese.
#262 to #230 - catzombie (09/26/2012) [-]
42% is still HUGE.
#264 to #262 - residentdevil (09/26/2012) [-]
yeah its too high but its still 2/3rds the total of what OP is claiming
User avatar #246 to #230 - blackleather (09/26/2012) [-]
That's because they are using different number totals. the 42% only refers to 42% of the male population, and the 32% of women out of the woman population.
#251 to #246 - N. Korean citizen (09/26/2012) [-]
so then, explain how 42% of the male population and 32% of the female population means that 63% of the population is obese?
User avatar #250 to #246 - vleasian (09/26/2012) [-]
that's 37% of total population.
#254 to #250 - anonexists (09/26/2012) [-]
ohh wait....you silly person with trolling profile picture!
#252 to #250 - anonexists (09/26/2012) [-]
....that was my point....
User avatar #253 to #252 - vleasian (09/26/2012) [-]
I interpreted the response differently.
#249 to #246 - residentdevil (09/26/2012) [-]
but the whole population is male and female at roughly 50/50 therefore it couldn't equal higher than 42%
User avatar #256 to #249 - blackleather (09/26/2012) [-]
If that's how you rationalize it, you'll get the numbers wrong.

You shouldn't use anything other than exact numbers, or approximations that are as close to the exact as possible, to ensure proper and best results. Otherwise, you could risk screwing up the numbers.
#258 to #256 - residentdevil (09/26/2012) [-]
I'm pretty sure though that you can't reach 63% with those figures whatsoever. You might as well stop now...

We should switch to sushi. That stuff tastes awesome and obviously isn't fattening.
User avatar #260 to #224 - hybridboxll (09/26/2012) [-]
It's the quantities, not the kind of food.
User avatar #265 to #260 - superunclesam (09/26/2012) [-]
Shitty food can be worse for you than quantity in which you eat and the amount of shitty food is astronomical. What are you to do when the healthy stuff is expensive as fuck but the unhealthy is dirt fucking cheap?
User avatar #267 to #265 - hybridboxll (09/26/2012) [-]
If you were to eat 3,00 calories a day worth of lettuce you'd still get fat.
Moderation in quantity is pretty much all that's required to avoid getting fat (you'd need a balanced diet if you wanted to be healthy, but we're only talking about getting fat) as long as you're not eating absolute garbage.
User avatar #271 to #267 - superunclesam (09/26/2012) [-]
True, but it's hard to eat healthy in an unhealthy nation. The average person should eat up to just over 2000 calories a day, but if the food they're eating is garbage, they're body will be unhealthy anyway even if they eat a proper amount of calories.
User avatar #320 to #271 - hybridboxll (09/26/2012) [-]
That I agree with; they're probably missing macro-nutrients, minerals and vitamins.

these statistics are garbage anyways because you are considered obese by your weight not by if your fat. I have a friend who ways like 250lbs about 5'8" but hes ripped as shit, but by the way these things are decided he is considered obese.
#205 to #199 - thepenname (09/26/2012) [-]
Yeah, I think the improvement of exercise sciences in addition to America's high-protein diet might account at least partly (though not a very large part) for the high "obesity" rate, which doesn't consider that some people are "overweight" on a BMI scale only because of a higher muscle mass. Though I'd say people are more often just plain fatter than they are buffer.
