Floridian here
not only are the alligator gar scary as F*ck and hard to catch, but they grow to be freaking huge, up to like ten feet. They can and very often will bite your feet and toes if you leave them dangling in the water or are floating on around near them. They are just investigative bites but it scares the mess out of you every time.
