It isn't that hard to do really.
User avatar #42 - shashashadow (09/24/2012) [-]
because they're simple to make and relativity cheep.
User avatar #41 - endface (09/24/2012) [-]
They actually use the sticks as a way to push the rice into their mouth while they hold the bowl.

Chopsticks are supposed to be more classy as spoons and forks resembles farming tools.
User avatar #39 - thepineapple (09/24/2012) [-]
In Asia you walk in any store and at the cutlery isle all the packages include 1 set of chopsticks and 1 spoon. What you can't do with chopsticks, you do with spoons.
Nevertheless eating rice with chopsticks is child's play, as the rice is sticky, not that **** that white's/blackies cook in Europe/'Merica.
Also, chopsticks are far more flexible in the ways you can use them, MUCH more than a fork can be. Those of you who don't know this, are the ones who haven't actually used chopsticks as your main eating utensil.

>not eating with chopsticks

Your argument was vaild until the part where you said "white's/blackies" and the part where you said "So that the inbreeds like you can continue living in your hillbilly shack with your hillbilly parents?" in comment 63. Get the **** out, you aren't helping.
User avatar #49 to #39 - danield (09/24/2012) [-]
Calm down weaboo
User avatar #63 to #49 - thepineapple (09/24/2012) [-]
Calm down what? The spread of first hand information?
So that the inbreeds like you can continue living in your hillbilly shack with your hillbilly parents?
#111 to #63 - fizzor ONLINE (09/24/2012) [-]
Wow, you use chopsticks. Tell me more about how asian you are.
User avatar #74 to #63 - yunablade (09/24/2012) [-]
Now explain to me how the **** knowing how to use chopsticks makes you royalty?

Just because you got a computer and stream anime all day it does not magically turn you into a refined sage.
User avatar #66 to #63 - danield (09/24/2012) [-]
Inbreeding, hillbilly? is this how you argue you philistine? by resorting to name calling
User avatar #37 - redclover ONLINE (09/24/2012) [-]
I sometimes think about what a shame it is that I don't like Chinese food, sushi, or anything else that you'd eat with chopsticks.
Because I'm really good at using chopsticks.
User avatar #192 to #37 - thunderkrux (09/24/2012) [-]
I eat all my food with chopsticks except for burgers fries hotdogs, etc or things like mashed potatoes.... you get the idea.
User avatar #104 to #37 - PartyPanda (09/24/2012) [-]
I eat Mexican food with chopsticks.
Don't judge me.
User avatar #36 - vikingfaen (09/24/2012) [-]
Because they have sticky rice.
#35 - fmabeaker (09/24/2012) [-]
It's easy to eat rice with chopsticks.
User avatar #32 - MegaAwesomeSauce (09/24/2012) [-]
Kind of ingenious, considering european culture must have taken hundreds of years to develop solidly reliable cutlery, but they just find two well rounded twigs and a funky hand technique and bam, you've got your cutlery.
User avatar #34 to #32 - kanatana ONLINE (09/24/2012) [-]
Most people don't know this, but modern cutlery (forks and spoons, etc) weren't used in Europe until roughly the fourteenth century.
User avatar #31 - soulessbody (09/24/2012) [-]
Cutlery was actually invented to NOT touch the food with dirty hands and, that way, save water. So I guess, making two small wood sticks was faster and easier then making a fork
User avatar #27 - nucularwar (09/24/2012) [-]
Confucius popularized the chopsticks, he said it was improper to use the same tools to eat that you use to fight.
#24 - ANONpirate (09/24/2012) [-]
because three sticks was simply ridiculous, and you can't spear a piece of rice with one.

south koreans use spoons for rice, scissors for knives and chopsticks for forks
User avatar #59 to #22 - kallebanan ONLINE (09/24/2012) [-]
They eat forks and knives!!!!! WHAT
#33 to #22 - totaliser (09/24/2012) [-]
From what you just wrote, either spoons are used instead of rice, or they eat knives with scissors and forks with chopsticks.

I would like to think that this is what you actually meant, since South Korea would be a bit cooler then. It would also give a whole new meaning to eating utensils.

Pic is eating knives.

I love it.... I think I'll visit my favorite Korean restaurant before I get home from school today.
User avatar #26 to #23 - Deeticky (09/24/2012) [-]
Of course it won't be authentic Korean. Kim-Jong-Un ate all of that.
User avatar #30 to #26 - BabyPainter ONLINE (09/24/2012) [-]
Maybe, but its in an area that is full of Koreans and it even has street vendors outside like the shows... can't say I've had "authentic" Korean food in any case because
A) Haven't dated a Korean guy so his mom hasn't cooked for me
B) Haven't been to Korea so I cant eat there.

That being said, I think I can just watch the shows and eat whatever is offered up as Korean food. Its the next best thing.

Kim-Jong-Un needs to have a nice chat with jenny craig.

the rice they eat is sticky so it's much easier to pick up
#14 - careyious (09/24/2012) [-]
They were picked because they were difficult to use, and forced the user to have to eat the food slowly, and savoring the food. Whilst a spoon is very easy to use and lets you just shovel the food into your mouth.
#25 to #14 - anonymous (09/24/2012) [-]
they were picked because it is very easy to make them. I mean 2 sticks...srsly.

And the don't take the rice on the chopsticks and eat it. They eat out of bowls and shove the rice with the chopsticks inside their mouth. Has nothing to do with Confucius. They used chopsticks before Confucius Grandmother was born and before hers was born too.

Srry for the bad English. It's not my nativs language.
#19 to #14 - asrial (09/24/2012) [-]
Wrong.
It's because of Confucius, who said that bringing weapons to the dinner table was bad (knife -> weapon), so they started using chopsticks instead, because it's freakishly hard to kill a guy with a pair of small-ass sticks in comparison.
User avatar #21 to #19 - geHuC (09/24/2012) [-]
chopsticks are hell of a lot more lethal than a spoon though...

Actually they are really precise when it comes to pick up certain things in your plate. You get used to it pretty fast.

(But if the rice isn't sticky at all...good ******* luck.)
