Sticky rice you can pick it up easily with chopsticks. Also, asian cuisine tend to have food that is easy to pick up with chopsticks. If we all use spoon to eat rice and other dishes as well, we will be furiously switching over between spoon and chopstick every second we want to try something.

Chopsticks are really easy to make I'm sure, maybe they were utilized because not everybody had cash to buy silverware instead of more important things.
