Ask yourself whether it's cheaper to mass produce a small metal pitchfork or wooden sticks in sets of two.
#132 - anonexplains (09/24/2012) [-]
MMM, wet wooden sticks grinding against your teeth, while somebody in the room applies their nails gently on a chalkboard.. and then forces it's way down.

rice is naturally stuck into clumps until it gets processed into the form that we know it in the western world, so chopsticks are actually better than forks for eating rice in east Asian countries
#125 - anonexplains (09/24/2012) [-]
chopsticks were more proper while forks and knives were considered barbaric.
User avatar #117 - randomserb (09/24/2012) [-]
Say you're a caveman, and you want to eat, but your hands have **** stains all over them. What do you do? You get two ******* sticks and pick the food up with said sticks.
User avatar #124 to #117 - randomserb (09/24/2012) [-]
Doesn't that make much more sense, and isn't that much easier than to create little pitchforks specialized for picking up food?
#119 to #117 - threenippledcousin (09/24/2012) [-]
why would your hands have **** stains ?
User avatar #121 to #119 - randomserb (09/24/2012) [-]
Because you engaged in some nasty variant of sexual intercourse with your caveman wife.

Well there is your problem, don't be ******* retarded. In Japan food is traditionally prepared and served in bite sized pieces.

User avatar #259 to #231 - thunderkrux ONLINE (09/24/2012) [-]
Yes..... I do. "I meant a whole ******* steak." is exactly what you said.
#126 to #116 - fukluvmakesammichs (09/24/2012) [-]
a steak is heavy. i hope you mean a piece of steak.

and if your technique is right theyre easy. just get the technique right and you can go alpha on that food!!!!

also asian rice is sticky and clumps, so chopsticks are actually easier for most of the bowl than even a spoon. more graceful as well.
User avatar #129 to #126 - corundum (09/24/2012) [-]
"Just get the technique right."
The most infuriating piece of advice.

It's because Japan has almost no metal. That's why katanas are so awesome: Japanese smiths were used to working with really crap steel, so when merchants started bringing decent metal from Mainland Asia, everything they made was suddenly awesome.
#110 to #102 - anonexplains (09/24/2012) [-]
...and they couldn't make a wooden spoon or fork?
User avatar #155 to #110 - llortemageht (09/24/2012) [-]
It would take a lot more effort to make a fork or spoon out of wood compared to two sticks
User avatar #99 - Loppytaffy (09/24/2012) [-]
It's just another way for Asians to prove they are superior to us. "we can eat grains with sticks..."
User avatar #96 - stormeye (09/24/2012) [-]
Rice (boiled, not the american-born "fried rice") sticks so you can pick up whole clumps with chopsticks. And most asian table manners allow bringing the plate up to your mouth and shoveling the rest of the remaining rice. (It is polite to eat every single grain. Tip for you if you find yourself eating in an asian country)
User avatar #97 to #96 - mads (09/24/2012) [-]
actually in japan when you eat the entire plate/bowl they will give you more because they consider that you are still hungry. at least that is what i have heard
User avatar #98 to #97 - stormeye (09/24/2012) [-]
I'm just going of mainly Chinese chopstick manners. Eating all your rice means you like the meal.
User avatar #115 to #98 - atnyne (09/24/2012) [-]
In korean cultures it's actually rude to bring the bowl up to your face because the reason my mom told me as a kid "What are you? Chinese?" I **** you not.
User avatar #142 to #115 - stormeye (09/24/2012) [-]
*shrugs* Like I said, I know mostly about Chinese chopstick manners, and from eating traditional Japanese, and Vietnamese meals with families from those countries, I see similarities.

However, that was quite funny.

Or just stay on god's soil and let those chinks have their freaking rice to themselves
User avatar #95 - Pharonix (09/24/2012) [-]
I don't eat any asian food with a fork anymore,
I no longer eat stovetop ramen with a fork either.
chopsticks are boss.
#92 - ludamat (09/24/2012) [-]
to be used as toothpicks after the meal
#91 - abdullahmag (09/24/2012) [-]
because most asian food eaten with chopsticks is already bite size, all they needed was something to grab it with instead of their hands.
User avatar #88 - lorddotcom (09/24/2012) [-]
