most rice sticks together in clumps so you put the mass majority of it on the top of the sticks like a scoop, or times you can just pick it up like normal. it takes practice but once you get a hold of it its not that hard to do.
The chinese used to use forks, knives, spoons, etc. Then comes the Ming dynasty and they fear an uprising. They take away all weapons and materials to make weapons. This includes the metal in silver ware. The poor chinese people can't eat and make products as well as they do now. Forks are hard to make out of wood and are very time consuming. These are easy to make and also very cheap. So that is why they use these.
Its actually really easy. Make the two sticks parallel like 2 prongs on a fork and scoop. Rice is kind of sticky, so it works.
They eat with chopsticks because then you will be only focusing on the food and forgetting everything else and you can enjoy your meal

traditional rice sticks together, forming clumps, its not like they use chopsticks to eat an individual grain of rice at a time...
I think we should just eat everything with our hands.
And drink stuff out of bowls.

That would actually be rude in japan. It would be saying to them that their utensils are cheap, or they're not good enough, then you'd be spearing there food which is also rude, you shouldn't even spear food with chopsticks either. To them, spearing the food shows you have a barbaric nature and you might not actually be enjoying the food and you are instead just eating just to eat.
I think using a fork and seeming kind of rude would be a better alternative to trying to use chopstick, getting frustrated because I can't pick up anything with them, tossing them, and then using my bare hands to ram the food down my throat in a horrifyingly violent manner that might even give some of the children and more squeamish people around me nightmares.
"chopsticks are easy to use"
Yeah... If that was true I wouldn't need to carry a fork in my pocket while in and Asian country (that uses chopsticks of course), also I don't care if I seem rude if it means I actually have the ability to put food in my mouth.

They really are easy. It's kind of like learning to drive stick, you don't get it at first, you have problems, you can't get it to go anywhere, then suddenly after practice it becomes as easy as driving an automatic. Seriously I don't even have to think about changing gears anymore.

i believe the chopsticks also had an elegance to them which the Chinese were fond of. food was to be prepared so it could be eaten easily with chopsticks. i.e. sushi.(bite sized). you also werent allowed to touch the food with your hands while you were eating it.

two sticks has more potential than any utensils only if u know how to use them property... ill stick with my fingers lol
Weren't the chopsticks made for quick and simple 'food utensils' access for soldiers during the Meiji War period?
The cost of making a fork is a lot, and Im talking about the meiji era, and before, so I think thats about 'medieval times' also having something metallic would be like taking $2000 into the middle of a war. Not sure about the facts but from what I read its something like that.
