"people know how to drive clutches"

I did not realize a clutch was a type of car.
#393 to #392 - fishford (09/24/2012) [-]
clutch, stick, row the gears, etc... all slang terms for cars with manual transmissions
User avatar #395 to #393 - MotrBoatr (09/24/2012) [-]
an automatic has a clutch too. why would you say drive a clutch if both have a clutch?
#396 to #395 - fishford (09/24/2012) [-]
because there's no clutch pedal on an automatic
User avatar #397 to #396 - MotrBoatr (09/24/2012) [-]
you'd still be driving a clutch if you have an automatic though. it does have one
#401 to #397 - fishford (09/24/2012) [-]
I don't even know what to say to your stupidity at this point
User avatar #402 to #401 - Spitfirex (09/24/2012) [-]
Most Automatic cars have a clutch which is automated, no need for a clutch pedal.
#405 to #402 - fishford (09/24/2012) [-]
1.) I already said autos don't have clutch pedals
2.) If you want to get that technical autos have multiple clutches in them
3.) I cannot believe you've never heard the expression "my car's a clutch"
User avatar #409 to #405 - Xaftz (09/24/2012) [-]
Ignore them. I've never heard that expression and I got it right away...
User avatar #408 to #405 - Spitfirex (09/24/2012) [-]
I said "most" because others use torque converters (what you are talking about).

and no, i never heard of "clutch" as a car, i'm not saying you're wrong tho. i was just pointing out the facts in this disagreement.
#411 to #408 - fishford (09/24/2012) [-]
even in manuals now you can upgrade to dual or triple disk clutches that have multiple clutch disks in them to hold more power. In autos they use multiple clutches so that the transmission can shift without ever fully disengaging power. One clutch disengages and shifts while the other stays engaged so the auto can change gears without truly disengaging. Even in torque converters there are a couple clutches, they don't actually transfer engine power, but they make the torque converter work
User avatar #414 to #411 - Spitfirex (09/24/2012) [-]
Yes, Manual clutches have multiples disks. Yes, that is the Double-clutched automated manual. i know this?

Alright, but i was just trying to help. The kid was trying to tell you there is a clutch in most automatic cars so you can also call those "clutches". I was trying to tell you his claim is true, since my own car has a clutch, even tho it's automatic.
And by the way, I never heard of torque converters with clutches, since they do the same thing, which is to connect the transmission to the engine. Most use turbines, fluids and shit.

I don't know what everyone is bitching about?? autos are good (if they're in something like a bmw and don't take 5 fucking minutes to shift up like a commodore) manuals are good ( 3rd gear skidding FTW) how bout everyone shut the fuck up and laugh?

Next would be parking brakes. People always have a hard time driving after I've driven/moved their cars because I actually set the parking brake and they usually have no clue where the release is.

I really don't understand where all the joy is in calling Americans stupid and fat, it just doesn't make sense to me that some European is over there thinking "hahaha wow Americans are obese, that is so funny, haha fat people, I have such a sophisticated sense of humor" some of these can be kind of funny but most of the time I just don't get why that would be amusing towards any nationality, where's the humor?
User avatar #375 to #359 - gigaset **User deleted account** (09/24/2012) [-]
It's called a stereotype (but I'm sure you knew that) and everyone does it. American's like to say that us Brits have terrible teeth. And mostly everyone says black people like to reproduce without claiming responsibility towards that child etc... No need to be offended, But I can see where you're coming from. (and most people who are like "Hur Dur, 'Mericn's r fat" are most likely 12year olds" =]

yeah I figured it was a stereotype I just didn't see the comedy in it though, I'm not offended by it because I don't fall into any of them I just couldn't see them but I guess from an outside perspective it would be the same thing. thanks for making me less of a butthurtfag

If you want to drive fast cars then you must learn to drive stick and yes you can get them in autos but they are not as fast. that's why both of my vehicles and my drag car are stick but the drag car is a racing stick so it barley counts.

Automatic transmissions shift a hell of a lot faster than manual transmissions... You just can't control the shift points as well. A lot of drag cars, (pro stock, top fuel and funny cars) use automatic transmissions.
User avatar #348 to #338 - ownemall (09/24/2012) [-]
I agree, but as long as your drag car is manual it still counts. Racers who use auto transmissions in their dragster IMO are just lazy. I mean I can see where you'd might want an auto on the surface streets, but on the track its just a long line and all the gears have been gone through by 3/4 of the way anyways.
#339 to #338 - N. Korean citizen (09/24/2012) [-]
Actually the flappy paddles are faster than manuals now in the 0-60 and the 1/4 mile in the higher end cars. Why do you think all F1 cars are flappy paddle?

you drive a stock honda civic manual, and i drive a supercharged 3.8L ford thunderbird auto ....your manual aint going to bet me. its not just the tranny its everything else. oh and not to mention a manual will never outshift a auto

Why are you saying this to me
User avatar #347 to #343 - DevilsCalling (09/24/2012) [-]
im saying it in general. fucking transmission fanboys. each other is good and bad. i prefer auto's have fun doing a brake torque in a manual, then again i love double clutching the beast, as for fuel auto's are so much better then shift the car properly and as for the "i dont need a computer chip doing my driving" people they are just fucking stupid that chip calculates millions of times a second to shift that gear. and i know all about 'feeling' the car and road...and the computer chip doesnt hurt that one bit
User avatar #352 to #347 - ownemall (09/24/2012) [-]
You can still by full auto transmissions without computers integrated into it. i cant stand electronic control on cars, it makes it 10 times more expensive to build and work on. You can get more power out of a carburetor than you ever will for cheaper than it would to build say a Chevrolet LS series engine. Just my opinion though.
User avatar #358 to #352 - DevilsCalling (09/24/2012) [-]
ok heres where it gets fun because i grew up with two gear head brothers, and so became one.my only thing is while my brother had to have old fords, and my other brother new chevy's i was indifferent. would i take a full blown 1970 dodge charger, or a lamborgini? when comes to getting teh power to the pavement you cant beat a computer, but when comes to power, sound you cant beat muscle. im the guy who would take a 440 supercharge it and throw it in the back of a ferrari F40. we are talking two sides of teh same coin, 'performance' though when it comes down to it. you will never find a muscle car that can beat the GTR around the nurenburg track..wont happen. and i have seen guys try. the closest one was a dude driving a all wheel drive 2008 mustang pumping out 800 horse..he was 13 seconds off on his closest lap.. but to me perfomance aint shit. i dont care if my car can break 2o miles per hour. i go for the looks, the feel, and the sound. thats why i laugh when i see little queers in there honda civics with an exhaust package and they think they drive rockets, the beast would eat them up and shit them out and has many many times
User avatar #364 to #358 - ownemall (09/24/2012) [-]
I agree with this COMPLETELY. Im a tad different though. I would rather have that 440 in my truck :P. but muscle cars were built for the 1/4 mile, as that was what everyone wanted, the fastest in a straight line for drags on the track and late night races from stoplight to stoplight. Foreign cars were designed for track performance.

i had a blown 351 in a 78 f-150 that i slammed to the ground painted black, with orange american muscle rims, she had fat ass tires on the back and would light them up all day, the bush bar in the front with the landing lights were out of place but some how brought it all together, i loved that truck. got rear ended by a texting bitch in her daddies yukon, and then i got tboned by a mazda something or other, and the truck was dead, so i finished off my 92 ford thunderbird slapped a 5L in her taing out the old 3.8l. she's never seen apair of tail lights, but i've never had a big mouthed ass hole with a car that could back it up either. she does the quarter mile in 11.50, and completed the local track 30 seconds under the track record. Ava is my baby and i've already told my GF that she will go before the car does...mean but true
