We aren't fighting for the money.
We're fighting so those wall street bankers can go home and hug their children at night.
Is it fair? No. But we gladly do it anyway.
You can argue the politics of it all you want. But at the end of the day, regardless of the reason, if someone threatens my Marines or my family, I will not hesitate to kill them.

Um... wow, you're an enabler. Open your eyes and see what greed and pride are doing to the Nation. You might call embezzling money from the unsuspecting "freedom" but one day you might wake up and realize that your way of life isn't just threatened in some Arab mud-shack abroad, but is also in limbo at home. Perhaps when you attempt a civilian life and have your house foreclosed on you might wake up. I pray you do before such a horrible thing happens to you...

In a meritocracy, he'd be rich, but sadly those don't exist. This is a US soldier, and his country runs itself based on the fact that you determine your worth based on how much money passes through your hands. That's why I can't ******* stand the US economy and the people who feed off of it.

GOD I hate these ******* posts. He derserves what he gets. ANYONE or just about anyone can just join the military and go die. It's not that hard. But who made his bullet proof vest? Who designed his gun? Or the helmet, communication systems, etc. Anyone can die for their country. Very few can improve it.
User avatar #161 to #118 - commontroll (09/24/2012) [-]
Hah. It's funny because it's actually pretty difficult. They don't just let anybody in, and especially these days because you have to score much higher on the ASVAB now than before. Not to mention, the willpower you need to just carry on is something not everybody has in them. Coming from a future soldier, and the friend of dozens.

False. in order to be enlisted in the united states military you must have a high school diploma or GED (generally 15 college credit hours with the GED), score 40+on the ASVAB, 40+ on the AIMs if you have a GED and are going army, you can not enlist if you have a vision problem that cannot be corrected either by surgery or by wearing glasses, you must be physically capable of serving, you are required to pass a psychic evaluation and above all have the courage required to serve. You have been owned, Now GTFO and go back to your child porn.

Ah yes, you owned me. Man, you are so clever! How did you get so intelligent? I guess passing high school is a rare commodity these days. I'm not going to join. I see know point in doing so. I'm currently a junior (technically a sophomore, but I skipped a year) enrolled in the nuclear engineering program. Why am I telling you this? I have considered working with the Navy in my future. There is nothing wrong with a powerful military, or having people in it. What I don't understand is why they're worshiped. Do you know anything about the Manhattan Project? What if they all just joined the military? How many more lives would have been wasted? What I find funny as well is how upset you all think I am. Why would I care what any of you think about me? I didn't like the post, so I must be a "shriveled little poodle cock" because of my stupid opinion. Nice one. You all just better keep telling me how stupid I am. The best way to convince someone of anything is to insult them.

If you considered facts before running your mouth like an over-aggressive 4 year old, maybe you'd learn a thing or two. I can honestly say I'd love to see a punkass like you on deck just for the chance to knock some common sense and respect into you. ******* civilians shouldn't be anywhere near Military equipment or bases, if you can't even consider the idea of basic training stay the **** away from our ships, the last thing we need is more egotistical 'brainy' twits like yourselves on-board.
#162 to #147 - Womens Study Major (09/24/2012) [-]
Sorry kiddo, but without us "brainy twits" your little boats wouldn't run. That's the thing about the English language. After re-reading my post, it sounded horrible. I should have been more specific on a couple of points. First off, I didn't mean I wanted soldiers to die. "deserves what he gets." Monetary wise. I assume you know how much you're going to make when you enlist, and make a conscious decision as to what it's worth. Honor and pride are probably a factor as well. I never meant to imply I wanted any harm to come to anyone, it was my fault for wording the sentence poorly. I apologize. I just meant that it's easy to give your life for something you care about. Also, punching me wouldn't help me understand anything, and would definitely not give me any more respect for you. It would give me a lower opinion of yourself, that's for sure.
User avatar #219 to #162 - sonicg (09/24/2012) [-]
I hope you realize that our boats can run just fine without you slack-jawed idiots, they ran without you ******* in WWII, and they'll do it today.

#114 to #106 - switchblayde (09/24/2012) [-]
I think you may miss the point a bit. When we leave the military, its to pursue a higher calling for ourselves. What time we DO serve though, especially in combat is what counts most for this debate though. I am a proud soldier, have served overseas (though not in the most dangerous of situations) and wish my pay would have been more than what I earned. To each his own views though.

Pic related. Me.

Do you hear that? It's the sound of ten thousand beautiful foreign women simultaneously orgasming because of you posting your picture, and the sound of ten thousand men questioning their sexual identity.
User avatar #164 to #163 - commontroll (09/24/2012) [-]
But I agree, it depends on each person for their motives, but they all have to face a very real danger, and that's something very few can do.
User avatar #221 to #164 - switchblayde (09/25/2012) [-]
You'd be surprised how many foreign women a man can get with just this single uniform as well as domestic... I've turned them all down though. Married since before joining the Army. I've met women in Europe who were above and beyond in beauty who wanted just a one night stand. I knew I could get away with it, but whats the benefit? Not a damn thing to me. My wife is the only woman I've ever slept with and that was purely out of choice. Just a healthy little non-sarcastic tidbit about me, good sir.

Take it from a current enlisted soldier and combat veteran. Yeah I do have to sacrifice time away from my family and loved ones, (haven't seen my family since Christmas 09,) it's a choice I made willingly and I knew what my base pay would be since day one at the recruiter's office. I do get free healthcare, housing, meals etc., but, it really isn't much pay. I do believe my pay should be higher, but unlike these Wall Street executives, I'm not responsible for all the loot that they are. They have their job, I have mine.

TL;DR
I'm a soldier, wish I got paid more, but everyone gets paid based on the responsibilities their job puts on them.

I don't think it's the length of the day you work or the lives you save that make you money. Wallstreet bankers have a specific skillset that allows them to perform their job. Just because they are able to make more money than a soldier doesn't mean you should hate them, they found a lucrative way to use their skills and ideas to make money. Isn't that what we're all doing? I agree that putting your own life on the line deserves respect, but no government can afford to pay soldiers obscene amounts of money, and I don't think we should discriminate against someone because they chose and worked hard to get into a career that they were good at and that they became successful at.

Which one would be more valuable after the bombs drop?
User avatar #95 to #91 - dunkleosteus (09/24/2012) [-]
That depends. I think that's a bit of an unfair question. How useful is that McDonald's employee or shoe salesman? Asking who becomes useful in an apocalypse is going to get a very static answer. In the world we currently live in, all of these jobs are important and allow us to function as a society. Like I said, soldiers deserve our respect for the sacrifices they make, but it doesn't make them better than the rest of us.
#107 to #95 - Womens Study Major (09/24/2012) [-]
I think that answering the question of who would be useful during an apocalypse would give a very dynamic answer. This is because I would be ******* awesome, and you would be roadkill.

Its simple value of skills, basic economics. Its hard for anyone to make it in business, despite their background and it does take a lot of hard work. The military is an honorable sacrifice, but its a sacrifice thousands of men and women can make and requires skills and/or education that are much easier to obtain. I think its unfair to disregard the value of a hardworking Wall Street exec who nets American industries billions of dollars, indirectly they can do the most to help people.

TL:DR Wall Street employees have value

Jewish advisers and congressmen were especially responsible for the Iraq war and these same kikes are beating the war drums against Iran today.

Because Iraq had something to do with it, huh?

perceived WMD's

extremely subjective comment Fox News would make

congressman gets exactly one vote.
But when you can control all the congressmen via lobbying, (see AIPAC) the democratic process becomes irrelevant.
