Last I checked the American flag looked a little different.

The upside to having our flags made in China.

do any other countries piss themselves about their national flag? I'm an american, but yet i've noticed we're practically the only ones that get bent out of shape about the flag
#155 - stripeygreenhat (09/22/2012) [-]
I'm American and I couldn't care less if a person shat on the flag. It's just a pattern on a rectangle to me. I find it ridiculous how people piss themselves over the disrespect of a damn design.

I thought it was kinda funny how they basically killed them self "protesting" us. How the hell can you protest a country? That'd be like protesting the moon.
#174 to #159 - kingpongthedon (09/22/2012) [-]
Well, when you disagree with the majority of the population's viewpoints, or even a vocal minority, you can protest the actions of that group. For example, embargoes and boycotts along with general acts of disapproval over Apartheid were what brought it to an end. Outside protests played a huge role.
User avatar #176 to #174 - heartlessrobot (09/22/2012) [-]
But there's nothing forcing a change. America could just completely ignore their very existence if it wasn't for the huge supplies of oil in that area. Yes, I am aware the wars have been about oil.
#180 to #176 - kingpongthedon (09/22/2012) [-]
Seems kinda like they may have some leverage if we're willing to fight over oil. (Though if you ask me, oil is a relatively minor factor for role in the Middle East, for a whole slew of reasons)

However, the US has a roughly 2:1 approval rating throughout the Middle East. What you are seeing is the actions of a very small minority. But anyway, what they are doing has the potential to be very effective. After all, Vietnam wasn't lost on the battlefield, but on the television. With 24 hr coverage, this tactic has only become more effective.

well at one stage arabs were like 1000 years ahead in technology compared to europe

they transported it over to the arab nations who adopted the technology
User avatar #212 to #181 - enkmaster (09/22/2012) [-]
So? Taking said technology from a different source isnt the same as being advanced.

Look at the Middle ages. Egypt and other Arab countries actually adopted technology developed in Europe, such as Matchlock and later Flintlock muskets.

The Ottoman Empire actually employed a number of European cannon experts to design and build their cannons. The same cannons that felled the walls of Constantinople.

While the Middle East was more advanced than Europe for a long time, it was more so in planning, academic sciences (astronomy being a big one) and kim jongistrative systems than just technology. The Middle East had its shit together at this point.

It's not that we were born in a certain geographical location (which btw is phenomenal in many aspects (resources, defensive, etc)) it's that we can be proud of what our country has accomplished. Speaking of which, you say that we have nothing to do with what happened in the past. This maybe true, but every American has a duty to continue our success. Not only that, but yes we've all dedicated something to get to where we are. If you take me for example, I am a successful business owner and independent website developer. I employee many people who thus contribute to the overall economic growth. Granted, it may just be a small part, but small things build.

At the end of the day we have our internal issues and conflicts, but we're still ONE proud people when push comes to shove. That's the thing the world doesn't understand. You've probably never seen the homeless man on the street who still cried for his fellow citizens when 9/11 happened, despite him being ignored. That's just one example of many.

As for standard of living? Well we could debate that all day and I can ensure you that I would win. Most countries you compare us to have a completely different economic system which suits their population...for now. We're meant to last.

P.S. We're still the leading military and economic power in the world. Fuck you cunt we made the internet.
User avatar #173 to #137 - Tunaa (09/22/2012) [-]
Leading Military because we spend more in defense than the next 24 countries combined, 23 of whom we are allies. That's why we are the leading military. Economically speaking, we are much lower. Also I stand for humanity and appreciate what all humans have done, not just those who in certain countries. Even though I am considered American, I consider myself human and probably even a horse before I claim a petty nationality. Also our country has done nothing all the same how every other country has also done nothing. It was the people, the humans. Also we aren't built to last. America is full of bigotry and racism. I know, I live here. Just because it isn't talked about much anyone more doesn't make it any less true. Most Americans would unite under our flag and when are nation is under attack from an outside source, but within ourselves we won't. Just look at the corruption in government. Perhaps the the worst thing we could think of. At least with an outside attack we can fight them off, but when the disruption is from within so many people just seem to lay down and expect someone to fix it acting like things will just work out themselves. Despite so many people saying we are a strong country, the fact is that the only strong thing about us anymore is our military. And that's just sad. We are not great. We are not strong. But we can be.
User avatar #189 to #173 - joemand (09/22/2012) [-]
Ahhh nothing like a young liberal teenage brat. Whether you like it or not, our military has and still leads us to some of the most innovative technologies the world can offer. Putting us ahead of other countries by decades with medical, defensive, etc. People like yo love to preach about such new technologies, but aren't willing to face the fact of where many of them come from. Even if they aren't directly coming from the military, many of them are still indirectly useful. So yes we do spend more than any other country, but I'll be damned if you try to tell me our results are lacking.

Has our economy been taking a turn for the worst? Yes, but what do you expect when you have such foolish liberal policies being pushed. Nevertheless, it's still the strongest in the world despite our current leadership.

Although I gladly stand behind my country, I do still consider my alliance to humanity itself obviously. However one thing is for certain, some groups of humanity tend to strive for much better than others. With that being said, many of our advancements weren't due to so guy in Kuwait. No, it was the men/women who strive not just for themselves, but for the idea of one great nation.

All you know how to do is look at the negatives this great country. You've obviously never experienced it. You've obviously never witnessed what that great "melting pot" really is. You sir are the sad one. You are an ignorant child.

Well, Fox News, so its credibility drops 75%. It was here on the internet, so thats another 300% drop in credibility.

I think its fake, or they either spun the story to give amuricans a hefty dose of nationalism.

Are you actually celebrating someone dying because they burnt a piece of multicoloured fabric?

1. Yes it's on Fox News, so instead of dismissing it as fake, do some research and you'll realize many other credible sites have published articles concerning the same event. So no, it's not 375% fake you dumb ass.
2. While we aren't celebrating, you are severely undermining a flag. A flag is not only a multicolored fabric, it is a representation of a nation's history and their people. A diamond is just rock without the value man gives it but it still doesn't stop your mom from dropping to her knees when she's given one
