I have to say American accents are easier to understand sometimes I got an Irish roommate and I can barely understand what he says cause he talks fast and mumbles. He has had friends over from Ireland and they are all like that. I also know a few people from Birmingham but they're easy to understand maybe that's just an Irish thing.
Yea but they never have a hard time understanding me and I can never understand them. It's hard to explain but it just sounds like they're talking with something in their mouths. I don't have any trouble understanding other English speakers except for Scottish people and I do run into this a lot cause I live in a tourist town so I run into people from other English speaking countries on a daily basis. (My User name is the town I live in in Florida it's a beach right below Daytona and like 40 min from Disney World)
Well, I don't really think the American accents are easier to understand, I think it's because the American media is big everywhere so that people just get used to it.
I for example don't come from an english speaking country, but I find it very easy to understand different accents just because I'm so used to hear different ones all the time.
Sorry if I formulated some of those sentences weird.

whenever i have visited america on holiday iv recieved compliments on my accent
i dont know if thats just being nice or they actualy like it but its quite a common thing for europeans to be complimented on their accents and their ability to speak english even if they are themselves english -just a personal experiance

Wouldn't a better attitude be to try and help the person understand why what they said was wrong? That way they could have the chance of passing it the knowledge on to others and you wouldn't have to hear ignorant statements like this anymore. People never look at the big picture, always selfish
