Never said Vietnam was a victory. Like 1812 the war was called off. A declared cease fire and the South thought we sold them out. But we were done. We couldn't invade the North so what would be the point in continuing. However, we left under certain circumstances that the North agreed to but then violated. After that what were we supposed to do? The reason we had to be reinforced by the brits is because canada was still only full of villagers and small garrison installations, america attacked because it would be an easy win and wanted to claim more land. They did not count on canadas allies stepping in and helping. So the americans gave up.
