You do know that Bill Maher is being sarcastic when he said that right? He's not attacking the guy on his religion, but (as i believe) he's finding the loopholes of religion and essentially fighting the typical religious rederick. The documentary this comes from is called Religulous (spelling is incorrect but you get the point) and he doesn't go around saying "HURR DURR YOU'RE FUCKING STUPID FOR BELIEVING IN A RELIGION HURR DURR" but simply asking basic questions from different religions from different people (i.e. Priests, follwers of different relgions...you get the point.)
TL;DR Stop being so butthurt.
TL;DR Stop being so butthurt.
I get what Bill was saying, and I'm a fan of him. But sometimes he's just an arrogant douche. Which, in this situation, makes it seem like h e is telling this guy to kill himself. Even on his facebook page, he blocks people who disagree with him even a little. He made a post about gun control and how no one needs guns. I said, "I get what you're saying, but we shoudn't just ban guns. I mean people have used them to defend their family, friends, or even complete strangers from armed criminals. They have a purpose" And now I'm blocked from liking/commenting.
man i hate bill maher and richard dawkins. they should just stfu and sit there asses down and not try to make others believe what religious people believe in
thats just cruel and mean...

I don't think Bill Maher and Rochard Dawkins go around sayinf THIS IS WHAT YOU SHOULD BELIEVE, in fact, they don't do that at all. What they do is essentially telling believers even the most BASIC understandings of science (at a grade 11 level of biology and chemistry), as well as finding loopholes within religion, that even most self-proclaimed all-knowers of religion don't even know.
Plus i'm sure people like the Jehovas Whitnesses and other religions don't go around telling nonbelievers that they should believe what they want right?

There are times when I've heard Richard Dawkins give evidence against creationism that even a 12 year old can understand. Yet zealous believers still refer to the Bible (or their instruction manual for their religion) as the absolute and only truth. It would ve like talking to a broken record, thus Dawkins (anyone else for that matter) would become frusterated.
There's a fine line between loyalty and stupidity. It's okay yo have a religion, it's okay to believe in what you want, but as soon as you start to refute even the MOST BASIC SKILLS OF SCIENCE, it's time to take a step back and re-evaluate your belief.

You realize how hypocritical that point you are trying to make is right? "as soon as you start to refute even the MOST BASIC SKILLS OF SCIENCE, it's time to take a step back and re-evaluate your belief."
So basically you are saying you must believe in science or you are stupid and wrong. but if a christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Catholic or whatever religion says to you if you don't believe in the most basic teaching of our religion than you need to re-evaluate your belief then all of a sudden everyone gets all mad and criticizes them into oblivion. grow up and learn to accept other people regardless of what they believe.
I'm not religious so spare me the hate talk just saying i'm sick of stupid people like you who try to make religions look like a bunch of idiots who don't know what they are talking about.

I'm neither a christian or an atheist but I sure do want to punch that dude for verbally attacking the poor fat guy so suddenly.
But anyway, I would like to answer the douche's question. The fat guy seems to be pretty religious and is certain that he will go to heaven since he has been and is a nice person. Now, if I remember what I've learnt from school, in order to go to heaven you have to head through life by being a good man and doing good deeds, that way you can 'earn' your ticket to heaven. By killing yourself, you prevent it to fulfill its purpose, which is to be a good man, hence dismissing you from heaven.
There you have it.

i hate that kind of atheist there is in the video. Just shut the fuck up and believe in what you dont believe in.
Constraints of belief, nothing more simple nor complex.
I am an atheist but I would assume that someone running a program like this would have a basic understanding on the matter.

What's the reason for trying to convert everyone? That's what I don't understand- exactly what it does for them.

Not trying to be a moralfag, but this is such a double standard, especially with the "inb4 killing yourself is a sin." If you don't want to hear the legit logical answer, then don't ask the question. Likewise if I asked why you didn't believe in God and how you believe in the Big Bang and evolution, I'd be one ignorant idiot to say "inb4 big bang." Don't get mad at this I just hate when atheists try to shove belief down your throats, I don't, so don't.
We sin everyday, whether viewed as a small or large sin in society, we still sin everyday. Christians are justified from the sin by Christ absolving our sins from us as we commit them and then seek forgiveness. So, with Suicide being a sin (Not specifically stated in the bible) that gets absolved by Christ, along with all the other Sins that we commit, What makes this one special? You steal something one day and you seek forgiveness, Then you kill yourself wanting to be with Christ and you are forgiven of you sin all the same. "ts a sin" isnt a reason why not to kill yourself to be with God.

Fool proof argument my friend. This wasn't my way of venting and going extremest Christian. I also don't dabble on the bible for i don't really agree with a lot of the organized religion. All of my focus was on the fact that the most logical answer to the question at hand, was being denied.
Christians believe that man's primary purpose in life is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. If they killed themselves, they wouldn't be trusting in God.
I know this vid is supposed to be funny and all, and everyone has something to say about everyone else's beliefs, but let's try to have respect for each other.

Christians are supposed to be Christians by spreading God's word to all the non-believers. So even though Heaven is a better place, Christians still have a job to do on earth, and they will go when their time comes. Just putting that out there...

ive always had a question about god and stuff like that ever since i was 7-8. People say jesus died for our sins and his dad is god and is allmighty so instead of making his son die to forgive our sins why doesnt he just forgive them himself since he is almighty?
just a question ive had since i was a little wee boy

Because it was an expression of God's extreme love for us, that he would give his only begotten son to die in our place. Jesus was not only God's son, he was also God in human form who came to earth and experienced life as we did, complete with temptations which he resisted. Thus Jesus was just as wary of death as we all are, and even prayed that if there were any other method, God might spare him. But he knew God's will and thus went up on the cross, knowing that he would suffer horribly before death, because by that sacrifice we would have a much better understanding of his love.

To atheists: if you know that all of your memories will be gone and your experiences will have no value to yourself after death (due to no afterlife); why don't you kill yourself? Why wait when everything will be nothing in the end anyways...
Yeah don't kill yourselves...
Yeah don't kill yourselves...

prepare yourself to be mindfucked by philosophy.
We know that logic is the only concept that can be proven to exist and is not simply an invention because any logic you use to disprove logic must use logic to do so, which in itself proves that logic must exist. Now knowing that, being alive means that we are able to use logic to justify our actions, we can classify something as a logical action or an illogical action, but either way we must be living to be able to form this logic. therefore, if one were to kill himself, whatever logic he used to justify doing so becomes null once he is dead, for he is no longer alive to express it, and since in the mind of an atheist there is only one life, any logic he used to kill himself is then null and has no way of being justified once he has done it. THERE

Lol that's hilarious.
Not trying to force you into some religion but... You two obviously don't understand what was said. If all your memories will be gone when you die then why don't you realize there is literally no point of living any longer? Literally anything you remember will be completely faded into nothingness. If it is of no worth after death, then how is of worth now? That's what doesn't make sense about the athiest no afterlife belief.
Either way yall get butthurt about other's beliefs too easily even if they are not trying to force you into a religion.

why would an atheist want to give up the only thing he believes in... "yeah, we're all gonna die, so let's speed up the process"...idiocy... an Atheist has a very unique view of religion, unlike religious people, I, like most atheists, look at all religion the same. Religion is kind of like sports rivalries, it's like 'YOUR TEAM SUCKS, but my team is better because it's closer to my house...' If you were born in America, probably christian, born in india, probably hindu, born in denmark during the viking time, you'd believe in Thor... religion hinders progress

that's kind of my point, religion offers nothing but a false sense of security, it hinders development, tries to kill science, and contributes nothing to the world, the only way religion tried to have peace, was by killing the non-believers, but I thought 'thou shalt not kill'? I guess it's okay if they have a different imaginary friend

you're overly generalizing and exaggerating. there are many people around the globe that believing has helped them. wether god exists or not, you cannot deny the fact that miracles happen, because some people's faith is just too strong. believing helps those people progress mentally and physically, they might believe in nothing, but they do believe that they believe in something, with such passion that it actually has a huge factor in their life, you cannot deny that, something like a placebo

it is a very real theory, the belief in belief, but it does not progress a culture, it may give hope to the individual, but if we all got over it, we would have been 50 years scientifically ahead, religion constantly fights science, and it's about time that changes
I'm agnostic, and while I find religious to people to be slightly annoying (especially when they try to force their religion on you, or you're somehow the devil incarnate for not going to church every Sunday) that guy really seemed like a dick...Let the poor man believe what he wants, we're all going to rot in the ground one day, might as well go out happy and at peace rather than "Well shit, this is it forever"
