Why is a comment that says "I don't have a phone at all." getting 44 thumbs up, but a comment that says "Ditto. My mom etc etc" has 7 thumbs down?

Perhaps the fact that he's ungreatful for the fact that his mother has bought him a phone for him to use and he's being a bitch and not using it. If you still live at home with your parents, a phone will save the parents tons of touble if they don't have to call around to everyone of their friends houses to find their kid that hasn't come home from school yet.

1. friends was an example. Of course it's of use when he or she is at other places as well.
2. Sure he might, still though, reflecting back to 1., whenever he's out, the people in the household might have to know where he is, perhaps to deliver some important news or change of plans.
3. I am assuming that this user is a minor which in that case the parents might feel more secure if they were able to contact him during the day to perhaps have a change of plans. And even if he's an adult it might make his/her parents feel more safe knowing they can get a hold of him when they need to. It is not that much of a bother to carry a phone with you.

I understand how it feels being a lone child. Even though it might seem I have a lot of
friends, they're more like "friends" and I am often left out or prefer staying at home. I also
have three older brothers which had all moved out before i started elementary school,
so I've always been kind of left out in the family as well. The fact that I sometimes see
myself as a lone wolf still stands though and I can relate to how your feelings about
feeling "watched".

And no I did in no means mean that he was acting spoiled, he might be living on the streets, posting this from an internet cafe for all we know. I just meant that you should
be grateful for what is given to you and show some appreciation even if you didn't

Well good points I guess and I like you, because I can relate to you. Fuck, it's kind of like a paranoia, I don't know why. I'm a bit antisociable I guess. I find it much easier and enjoyable to communicate on the internet.
