My dad drilled holes in the spoon to cut down on wind resistance.

I still hear it whistling in my worst nightmares.

I can't not use wooden spoons when I'm cooking. Everyone else seems to use metal or plastic but I just love the wood.

If you remember these, you're probably Italian or descended from Italians. MFW it took me till 16 to figure out the wooden spoon was used for cooking too.

Honestly, I'm glad that I got hit with a belt when I was a kid. It made me grow up respectful, responsible and with a good sense of personal morals. I feel that with proper limitations, that is just part of discipline, not abuse as they call it now.

yea..using fear and pain to force a child to act a certain way.....
User avatar #344 to #339 - fpsnoob (08/22/2012) [-]
Up to a certain point it's the most effective way. That's why now you constantly see kids throwing tantrums in public, and doing all sorts of crazy shit. It's because parents are too afraid of disciplining them with the fear of getting in trouble for child abuse. So kids know they can pretty much pull anything off.

I personally think you can get the same idea across without beating your child. i never got hit and Im: 17, have never touched drugs, have a close group of friends, and do well in school.

I will never think you need to beat a kid although under certain circumstances it can be effective. I'd much rather just punish/ground them and do things of that nature.

If you act intimidating it can have the same effect. trust me.

maybe i was a lot more thick headed than you when i was younger. i didnt care if my parents grounded me. take away my videogames...okay...i'll watch tv...take away my tv...fine...i'll read a book...oddly enough...my parents never took away the books.
they only spanked me a couple of times...but it was enough so that all they had to do was threaten it if i ever got out of line. it depends on the kid really. i know tons of kids today who could use a good beating...that simple...yeah its fear of pain...but ill tell you what...it works as long as you dont go overboard

my father was just always very intimidating and i just wanted to not be a bad kid because he'd scare me when i was out of line. i almost never crossed the line though

like i said, im bull headed. it took me a few years, but i finally started to behave
#333 - rivqaz (08/22/2012) [-]
When I was a kid, my parents got bored of those conventional means.
So then my parents made me choose what I would get beat with.
They insisted to 'never laying a hand on me'
If it were a bad report card, they would make me choose one of the toys I had.

But years later i'm maintaining a 3.75 gpa :D

due to my mom having a shity life, going through a lot of foster homes (some that were abusive) she didnt want to use those methods on my sister and I so i never got the belt or anything, just a good smack on the ass when i was young and a threat to take my pokemon away.
