Technically isn't the steam "polluting" the air with radiation now?
User avatar #26 to #9 - natedizzie (08/20/2012) [-]
There is no radiation except for in the core. If people would allow for them to properly store the nuclear waste in the mountain designed to hold it. Then there would be no pollution.
If you want to speak of pollution The russians have been known to dump radiation in the ocean and have also sent down "sealed" container full of radioactive material into the ocean.
#40 to #26 - biomedic (08/20/2012) [-]
This is a map of all the ocean sites used to dispose of radioactive waste, the western world is just as bad as Russia, but quieter about it.
User avatar #93 to #40 - natedizzie (08/20/2012) [-]
I know but protesters won't allow them to store the waste in Yucca mountain. Also shady ass companies being douche bags and hurting people by not following regulations so that they can save money.
User avatar #417 to #93 - biomedic (08/20/2012) [-]
yeah :/ once again it comes down to the uneducated majority giving the government no other choice than to hush up and dump it in the ocean, all the time thinking they're saving people from the yucca mountain site. I am rather concerned about the one in the English channel though, I live near that, I don't particularly want to eat radioactive fish :L

implying steam doesn't cause global warming...

ITT: people thinking a not too clever person is stupid to make themselves feel better

The worst part of all those red thumbs is that anon is actually correct. Water vapour is one of the primary greenhouse gases. It definitely DOES contribute to global warming.

Those below me who are saying "it's just water"......well, you're right, but it absolutely plays a role in global warming.
User avatar #39 to #24 - Lawlor (08/20/2012) [-]
But it won't make a difference.

Like I said in reply to the other comment. saturation.
NO more steam can be added, so it will simply cause more clouds,

Anon is technically right, he was implying that adding more steam will make the situation worse, which it won't.
#52 to #39 - N. Korean citizen (08/20/2012) [-]
so you think that the amount of steam in the atmosphere is constantly at saturation and that increasing the temperature won't allow for more water to be saturated,

the point i am trying to make (badly) is that all these facebook posts mocking people's intelligence are simply ridiculous everyone says stupid things every now and then and this one wasn't even that stupid
#42 to #39 - bcmn (08/20/2012) [-]
I saw in your comment below, haha. I agree with you. Wasn't saying that adding water will make for any significant increase. But the water that already exists in the air is a contributor, which people didn't seem to get.
#38 to #24 - N. Korean citizen (08/20/2012) [-]
i shall drown in my sea of red thumbs thankful that some people understand the greenhouse effect.
User avatar #33 to #24 - Sammiches (08/20/2012) [-]
Thank you! I wish people would do their research before thumbing down.

well dumasses saying that polar bear populations are being fuked up by global warming are sadly mistaken polar bear populations have gone up so fuk da police

steam /stēm/
Noun:
The vapor into which water is converted when heated, forming a white mist of minute water droplets in the air.
User avatar #21 to #8 - Sammiches (08/20/2012) [-]
Actually, water vapor accounts for the largest percentage of greenhouse gas. It amplifies the effects of the other greenhouse gases. I learned this in my environmental science class.
User avatar #27 to #21 - SuitUp (08/20/2012) [-]
Compare the amount of vapour released from cooling towers to the amount evapourated off the ocean. Sure, it acts as a greenhouse gas but stop the water cycle and see how well that works out for the planet.

Water does not count as pollution in any rational sense.
User avatar #32 to #27 - Sammiches (08/20/2012) [-]
I am aware. I'm not saying that water is a pollutant, I was merely saying that it is a greenhouse gas.
User avatar #31 to #27 - jaerbuen (08/20/2012) [-]
^ this.
#7 to #4 - robertpaulson (08/19/2012) [-]
Steam.... its just water dude

You essentially just said clouds cause global warming
#28 to #7 - bcmn (08/20/2012) [-]
Yes, it's "just water", but water is a greenhouse gas, which definitely contributes to global warming. And no he's not "essentially saying clouds cause global warming" The water vapor that exists in the air is totally different from the concept of "clouds." One is a greenhouse gas (that contributes to global warming), and the other is condensed water vapor

because it doesn't, it causes rain.
#25 to #5 - bcmn (08/20/2012) [-]
Water vapor DOES cause global warming. It's a greenhouse gas.....which plays a huge role in global temperature rises.
User avatar #454 to #25 - shashashadow (08/20/2012) [-]
hold on, let me go ask my mother who has her doctorate in environmental engineering and makes a living by making sure nuclear power plants are up to code.

she says bullshit, and that nuclear energy is actually safer for the environment than wind turbines.
User avatar #36 to #25 - Lawlor (08/20/2012) [-]
Does simple water make up a huge amount of greenhouse gases? Yes! Yes it does.

Will adding more steam into the air actually change anything?
No. Because saturation is a thing that exists.

Like shashashadow said, it will only cause a few more clouds.
#41 to #36 - bcmn (08/20/2012) [-]
I totally get that.....Adding water vapor isn't going to make for any large increase in global warming. I was just saying that the water vapor in the air is a contributor! it just seemed that people didn't get that.
User avatar #43 to #41 - Lawlor (08/20/2012) [-]
Well yeah, I wouldn't argue with you on that at all. That's fact.

I just suppose your comment may have implied that adding more made it worse, or maybe some people just plain out took it the wrong way. Eh, I thumbed you up one anyway. Whatever difference that'll make I suppose!
#47 to #43 - bcmn (08/20/2012) [-]
Yeah I get ya. simple miscommunication on my part.

You wanna know a secret though? It won't make any difference. "Thumbs" are a weird kind of currency on this website that I'll never understand.
But thanks anyway! Happy trails my good man
