I think its because they all found a bandwagon to jump onto so they did. They've all been kind of awkward throughout life, probably with a few friends but not as much as they'd like and suddenly they get this new thing that shocks everyone and brings bands of kids together. The internet has taken a part in making a person being a certain degree odd seem like a good thing, hence the "My friends: *normal gif* Me: Crazy gif", it screams "look at me I'm different and cool and I I'm proud", so mlp gives these guys something that makes them different and something they can join together with another group and form their own clique. And there are different degrees of bronies, some just act like one online and watch a few episodes here and there, while others practically live for it because they have thrown themselves into that culture. There was a kid in my school that passed out flyers saying "As you all know, I'm a bronie and we practice friendship, love, and happiness (or whatever the fuck those three are). Today is Derpy Day and I wanted to take this time to tell you I care about you and to have a magical day" he was a junior when he did that, and while telling people you care is a nice thing it was a socially awkward situation. So while I think most of them are creepy or weird, I also feel bad for them and sometimes feel that they don't really see how awkward they look.

Wow first time I've seen some one on ponytime lose an argument when they are in support of ponies. Just wanted to point that out and congratulate the victors.
