they lead to diahrrea and dehydration, if the animal has enough human-strength laxative they can shit so much they can't replenish fluids and will die of cardiac arrest. also the laxative strips away mucous on the inside of the intestines and can cause infections. also the animal will be in severe pain with cramping, fainting, blurred vision, and kidney trouble or failure.
