The fact he is willing to be the villain to prove to the world our sheer apathy to the "statistics" yet our sorrow for the few is grossly in-justified is intriguing. Maybe he wasn't a totally bad person, but a really fucked up good-guy (loosest sense of the word). Like REAALLY fucked up.
Or he could just be batshit crazy saw the movie and decided to kill people...

<- mfw i heard the news about the movie killing. Sure as hell that guy was a sick fuck for going to a movie premiere to shoot people. Nobody should loose their life like that.
Still: Nobody seems to think about it rationally, everybody gets all choked up and emotional about it. IF WE DIDN'T MAKE ALL THE FUZZ ABOUT IT THOSE LONELY ASS DUDES WOULD LEAVE THEIR GUNS IN THE CLOSET AND JUST FUCKING KILL THEMSELVES.
It's all about the media attention, it was the whole time and will be forever on. People get killed all the time. How many die to car accidents? Nobody knows and nobody cares because we are used to that kind of murder.

Seriously I'm fucking sick that you even got upvoted. I'm fucking sick that there are even posts that are trying to get thumbs based of this cluster fuck of a situation. We don't care about the people who have passed in the Middle East? Seriously, fuck you! The truth of the matter is that while every life that is lost during war (which I'm sure as fuck closer to than you), they chose to go into the service. They fought valiantly and have my upmost respect. You are a fucking idiot for comparing a KIA to an act of mass murder. These people went to enjoy a film, one of the few pastimes that have helped us through the worst, and they were fucking killed. There is a big difference between I joined the military and was KIA vs. I bought an overpriced movie ticket and was killed.

But it has a point, you must admit.
Its in the news all the time that people in war zones like Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria at the moment that people are dying in groups, and we're ok with it because it's a warzone therefore people die and so what.
But in peaceful ol' Europe and America, well, we're not at war, so when people die, it does cause chaos and upset, because it's not expected.
Death is death, no matter how, where or why it happens, it just so happens that our social notions allow us to validate war-death and move against unexpected death.
tl;dr? Death is death, get over yourself.

While I share your respect for the brave men and women of the armed forces, death in the Middle East, or in any war, doesn't mean a soldier who was killed in action; it could very easily be a random Middle Eastern civilian who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Dozens, if not hundreds or thousands of civilians could have died in the Middle East, and Americans very rarely care because they're not being affected by it. Then again, they probably also weren't physically affected by the twelve people killed at the premier, but the fact that it was on American soil makes it a huge deal. That was the point of the post.

The main fault in this point is its own argument, sure everyone loses their minds, they are justified to. People know damn well of the deadly situation overseas. I see plenty of support for people in those situations too, sure it may be unnecessary to cause this international fuss, but people have a right to care and be interested, its not every day that a man shoots up a public movie theatre in a country where people should believe they are safe. [big]Quit being edgy yo.[big]
In norway last year, the whole country tripped balls when three soldiers died in afghanistan by a mine. I didnt really understand why, i mean they have the most dangerous job in the world, and still the prime minister had to apologize to the families. I thought the whole thing was fucking stupid, but now im starting to undestand.
"a million deaths is statistic, a single death is a tragedy."

And when 250 people dies in syria, because of fucked up politics and injustice, nobody really cares...
because it's all part of the plan
As a the dark knight fan, i couldn't agree more with this post, but you can't say that this was little more than an insane joker parody who has watched too many movies

The truth is, no one cares about anything unless it effects them.
I don't know why so many people seem to think they care about the people that died. Sure its a tragedy but that happens daily, thousands of people die every day. They should learn from this, not weep over it. Only the friends and family of the dead ones are the ones that actually care about them
actually the Bulgaria suicide bombing and recent developments in Syria have gotten quite a lot of media attention. But OP does make a decent point here
