Saw Non-Stop yesterday. I liked it. At some points it was sorta frustrating, but it was still a good movie.

I've done my best to watch the 1978 Superman movie but.. jesus, it sooo didn't age well... I've seen films made much earlier that seemed more contemporary. I'm half an hour in and I greatly prefer Man of Steel to it... I have two more hours, if I can bare through them, so I'm hoping things change, considering how much everyone praised the shit out of it and saying MoS was shit at the same time...

Did I say it's good? I said it's enjoyable at least, like that shitfest "The Avengers". Full of flaws but you can at least have fun with it. For some it has greater meaning, others hated it. Normal people liked it while nerds hated the shit out of it. Doesn't mean it's terrible.

avengers was good. the fact they had the bromance with the scientists. allowing captain america to be boring and still be relevent and awesome. giving hulk his moment is great

superman was boring, conceited, had amy adams, had the dumb kevin costner scene, made me depressed because of the shitty cinematography, a weak villian, a terrible fight scene, and the shittest jokes ever put on digital movie
User avatar #19421 to #19418 - payseht (03/02/2014) [-]
also, the Avengers was forgettable, which is the biggest sin a movie can make, imo.
Myself and others I've asked remembered nothing from the movie, except for some action scenes, and the stupid moments ("I'm always angry"... that was the most retarded and nonsensical explanation they could have come up with... the only one I can think of on par to its stupidity was when Bane says "Are you here to burn with your city?" in TDK: Rises and Batman responds "No, I came here to stop you!". I'm not expecting comeback gold, but that was just weak and stupid... but at least it made sense, unlike Hulk).
The thread was in no way great... aliens that can be taken down by a guy with a bow. I don't know about you, but I'll take those aliens opposed to kryptonians any day...
I'd criticize the movie more if I could remember a damn thing about it...
The best I can say about it is its a good and mindless action/comedy, worth at least one viewing but you won't remember it in T-minus a few days. Except for the funny scenes, which a good comedy should at least do...
User avatar #19422 to #19421 - payseht (03/02/2014) [-]
One more thing about the Hulk. They establish his character throughout the movie. He's a problem. He can't be controlled. Bruce needs to sit in isolation to avoid hurting people. Hulk is not just a burden, it's basically a curse on his existence. He can't enjoy life because of it, since any time he lets his emotions be expressed, he risks turning into Hulk and killing innocent people. ALL THAT SWEPT AWAY WITH ONE LINE THAT GAVE NO EXPLANATION TO WHY...

ok i 100% disagree with avengers having no memorable moments. Even Joss Wheadon admitted to problems with the movie in terms of not following a traditional storyline structure, in fact he said there wasn't any. And the whole scene where they were on the ship and fighting came out of nowhere, not to mention thor saying "you people are so petty....and tiny" and the camerawork makes you think he's high or something. I'll admit when that scene was happening i legit had a headache. Not just saying that it legit gave me a headache cause it was pretty bad, but it's the only movie that pulled itself out with that amazing ending fight scene. This made sense as to why the city was destroyed. There was a whole army of aliens to fight, as opposed to 3 krytonians in man of steel.

hulk himself had the most memorable 2 scenes in the movie. and you talk about hulk having no explaination but they did explain. There is no risk of him turning anymore if he doesn't want to. He's in control. If you remember the ed norton hulk you saw him finally starting to channel it. this hulk is a extension of that only the actor is different. and thats why people loved this hulk and not the movies. the hulk movies sucked because the hulk was not released. that helicopter in the movie just got in the way and held the fight in one place. and while we on the subject WHY THE HELL would hulk need to use car doors as hand weapons when his fist is 100000000 times stronger. And i'll tell you this joss whedon had previous experience doing something similar on buffy. there was a character named oz who ended up learning to control his wolf and only changing when he wanted. well only for 1 episode but you get my drift

also if you need to understand cabin in the woods i also direct you to season 4 of buffy too for that to see the style and similar premise....kinda. well the ending is similar to the end of season 4
User avatar #19429 to #19426 - payseht (03/02/2014) [-]
I think I said the movie as a whole is forgettable, and that some scenes stick with you, specifically the funny scenes and the highly intense action scenes, which is why I praised it as a action comedy. After Batman, some people expected more from a comic book movie than spectacle, which is most of what the Avengers was.
A whole army of aliens that could be easily taken down, versus 3 kryptonians, while even one single kryptonian could take down the entire world because of their powers here on Earth... but it was also about destroying the whole planet, not just humans... but I digress.
Hulk was the best part about this movie because he was fun. That doesn't erase the fact that he should be nothing like he was in this movie. If they chose to extend on the Hulk in the 2008 (I think that's the year...) film, then that's what they should have done. Instead they pretended like nothing of that happened and crushed a film's worth of exposition and story telling to one single line (I'm always angry). That was just horrible... I can understand him coming to grips with his animalistic side, but don't pretend like the first three quarters of the movie wasn't about him not being able to, then suddenly going HE COULD ALWAYS CONTROL HIS POWERS HURR DURR... and I don't care about car doors. They looked cool, which made me not actually think about it. Distract me long enough so my suspension of disbelief doesn't kick in. It's the least you can do. But their explanation kicked it in the fucking face and said "Shut up and enjoy the action! WHOOO-HOO!!"

I'll say this Avengers is a character based movie not necessarily a plot driven movie. There's a basic plot to hold the characters together but this is why the marvel universe is brilliant. This is why they had the standalone films. So they can put all these characters together and everyone would understand them. Granted I'm a little burnt out on marvel's way of always continuing the story. And that's also why im happy Guardians of the Galaxy is announced as a single movie not as a trilogy or anything. But at the end of the day they set up these characters with the movies. And of the standalone movies the Hulk was the weakest. Hulks character should be simply smash. And that's it. we dont need bruce banner. And the whole thing they did with Hulk in avengers there's a word for that, subtle. Like i said the scene on the ship where everyone was fighting and hulk changing gave me a headache and i kinda dismiss that scene out of the movie a little bit but this hulk is what I wanted. I even loved how they brought Bruce Banner in for his science not his beast. That was a brillant thing. The character is so underappreciated for the subtlty of how he is brought in and used. The hulk being a after thought was actually pretty cool. And you forget, he never said he was worried about it, if he did it was simply a test. It was everyone else who was worried about it because they didn't know if he was able to control it. It's never stated that he couldn't control it.

And also in terms of man of steel i dont understand why that krytonian girl is getting so much love. people even wanted her to be wonder woman. i dont get white.

User avatar #19420 to #19418 - payseht (03/02/2014) [-]
yeah, but that's like, your opinion, man
I found it anything but boring; watched it 3 times since it came out on DVD or Bluray or whatever, and once in the cinema. No idea what an adam is, enjoyed the Kevin Costoner scenes because I liked the idea of Superman's father not knowing everything like up until now in every incarnation, didn't find anything wrong with the cinematography, and I'll add I wasn't bothered by shaky cam (which I actually enjoy if it's not overdone... it gives a feel of realism, like you're actually there, or that it was actually filmed by another human, instead of a crew... but again, as long as it's not overdone and doesn't shit on the fight scenes by making the action literally unwatchable), loved Zod who was far superior to the Zod in Superman 2, you're in a minority since most people actually liked the fight scenes, including myself... and the jokes were terrible
There are bad things about the movie, the biggest of which is how shitty the editing was done, everything feeling episodic as shit (we need to do this! cut to next scene with different everything, nothing in between to tie the two scenes together), a weak Lois Lane (both in the actual character's writing but also casting), no actual Superman (which for some can be excused since it's the origin story... the whole point of an origin story is to show you how a character becomes who he needs to be... but that excuse goes out the window when at the end it's still not a fully developed Superman, at least not how his character should be in many fundamental aspects).
#19424 to #19420 - baitdoesnttalkback (03/02/2014) [-]
im glad man of steel didnt use lex luther because i have yet to see him on screen and feel threatened by him. The whole codex in his DNA stuff was not something i enjoyed. and that big machine in the middle of the end fight scene that superman fought felt like it was put in there purely as something to use in the video game. the movie tried to be smarter than it was. And zod was not superior to superman 2. thats bull. while i will concede as the movie grew michael shannon, who played zod, did kinda grow on me as he was the only adequete actor in the bunch however any movie where he is the most dynamic actor is a clear dud in my mind
User avatar #19425 to #19424 - payseht (03/02/2014) [-]
Zod in Superman 2 was over the top, cliche'd (kneel before me, I am the ruler!), and just couldn't be taken seriously as a villain because of the way he acted. Zod in MoS had purpose and motivation. He was brainwashed by his peers. His only goal was the survival of his race... under his rule... fine, both are cliche'd, but I can at least feel threatened by MoS Zod.
#19427 to #19425 - baitdoesnttalkback (03/02/2014) [-]
like i said he grew on me and he's good but nobody who hasn't seen the movie is going to be drawn to it because of michael shannon. everyone goes to watch superman 2 BECAUSE of the iconic kneel before zod stuff. I suppose you would of prefered 300 with the toned down leonidas rather than the THIS IS SPARTA leonidas?
User avatar #19428 to #19427 - payseht (03/02/2014) [-]
there is a point where a character is too over the top to be taken seriously... passion and... whatever Superman 2's Zod was are two different things
#19430 to #19428 - baitdoesnttalkback (03/02/2014) [-]
ok its hard for me to defend a 70s/early 80s movie because we all know back then were a lot more campy so i can't really defend it compared to modern standards. but come back in 10 years and tell me how much of michael shannon you remember. won't be much
User avatar #19437 to #19430 - payseht (03/02/2014) [-]
I possibly won't, I agree. But as it stands, I find him superior. Maybe they'll both be bad at some point in the future, but, again, I find one superior.

Smallville is the early to late 2000s.
People don't love the 78 Superman because of its plot, which is that of a typical comic book, they love/loved it because of the superb casting of Superman, the music and a few other reasons.
If you don't enjoy it then you don't enjoy it.

Can someone explain to me the order of the Star Wars movies? I've never actually watched them from start to finish, and most of them were just movies I watched half way through on television. So the Attack of the Clones and the similar movies came later? So are they prequels? And where should I start watching the series from? Should I stream it or should I download them?
#19365 to #19364 - lungeroy (02/28/2014) [-]
the order they came out is epside 4, 5 and 6, and then came the prequels 1, 2 and 3. Whenever I rewatch the series I like to see them in the order they came out. (4,5,6,1,2 and 3)

Even more so than chris nolan's TDK trilogy?
User avatar #19360 to #19357 - infamoustrapper (02/27/2014) [-]
Probably not. But I mean....kinda. Where they are taking that series is incredibe. Comic book movies don't really any flow to them and usually each movie stands out as it's own. Even TDK trilogy wasn't a very good trilogy. Like they were all AMAZING movies, but as a trilogy they didn't flow that well. These spider-man movies are setting up for something huge. The amount of build up they are doing with this is incredible. They are planning on forming the sinister six spread out through 4 movies leading up to it (this isn't confirmed but is highly suggested). Now people didn't like the amazing spiderman that much all in all. But that's just because they were watching it as a single movie. If you just look at it as the beginning of spider-man, like an intro, it's fantastic. Once ever movie comes out the series is going to flow incredibly. The story about Richard Parker sounds very interesting, and the way they are combining it with every villain is something not done before. Idk this is all just a huge prediction but I think it's going to be amazing
