Drill small hole into plug, Glue paperclip, wait till dry, pull out (thats what she said)

Dude, just get a really high powered magnet.. It'll pull it right out.
To your original point, a high powered magnet would fuck up your screen as well just by being that close to the laptop.
On the other hand, that "Advice" might be good for trolling people in future. Similar to telling them to delete system32.

Try using a pulley system. Either a simple weight to pull yourself up to that cavity or a electric motor to pull yourself up at a steady pace. And don't forget to reinforce the roof of the room / floor of that of that compartment, it will need to take your weight.
