They go to jail for a few weeks.. where there is a rehabilitation center.
The people who sell drugs (not the users) are the ones who go to jail for longer.

Plenty of casual users are charged with Intent to Distribute, because you save money by buying in bulk.
I went to jail once, and I didn't find it rehabilitating. You are stripped of your dignity. treated like an animal (policy to maintain authority), and are only allowed to associate with other criminals. You are barely fed, and don't get to choose food that is proper for you. You are often ignored even if you have potential medial issues. When I hear about other peoples stories about jail, they usually learned more about how to commit crime there. When you get out, even after a short time, you are usually worse off than you started.
We should let people live their lives the way they choose, and when someone commits a real crime they should be punished with lashings or an eye for an eye, or actually rehabilitated. Not steal years of their lives and prevent them from growing as a person.

You - "I brought a delicious donut for lunch."
Bully - "Don't eat the fucking donut or I'll beat you up. In fact, if I ever catch you eating a donut, I'll kick your ass."
You - "Seriously? I just want to enjoy a donut ever once in awhile."
Bully - "You should be thanking me, I'm saving you from getting fat."

Rarely. You can't jail someone for a crime they might commit. The most common drug is marijuana, and it is less harmful to oneself and others than most prescription drugs that doctors prescribe liberally. Imprisoning people for that does more harm than the drug ever could. Don't decide, as a voter, how other men in this world should live their lives.

... and that's what pot does to you... makes you bite peoples faces off cause if you can't find a bag of Doritoes...
Maybe if harmless drugs where legalized and kids where properly educated about them, then less people would be smoking bath salts which make you go crazy. Just a thought.

lil' tid bit of info you might not know. Police only enforce the laws; don't like a law? Get politically active and change it. After all we are the ones that put people in congress.

I was placed in handcuffs because a cop thought I was selling drugs and since I was riding my bike he just threw me into his car and took me to the station, I got out a few hours later then reported to the a sheriff and got him fired. I just got new tires for that bike.

Actions have consequences. This little tidbit of information seems to not be present in most peoples minds these days....

Its more about keeping it off the streets so families can enjoy their lives without creeping up on some addict messing with them or their kids getting around them. Depending on the drug, some can put family memebers and innocents in danger because the person wants money or things to sell for more drugs.

Here's an idea:
Don't do drugs, and you won't get in trouble for doing drugs.

Sounds like somebody did a certain something and got caught.
Now you're butthurt against police.
Cops don't send you to jail permanently for drug possession, so it's not like your life is ruined when you still have time to amend it.
In fact, the first time is basically a slap on the wrist. If you didn't take that with seriousness, then you should be blaming yourself, not the person who was doing his job (you should be blaming yourself the first time too)
Cops might not always be perfect, but they're the ones that protect you and your peers from all kinds of nasty characters. Treat them with respect, because they risk a lot every day they put that uniform a lot.

Bah. Jail wasn't made for criminals to become good people, but to isolate people which are dangerous for the society ( and when our society decides Weed is dangerous, then weed is dangerous, even if it's wrong, anyway what's real mate ?).
When a prisonner gets to jail, he lives only with criminals. That makes his previously marginal statut completly normal. Solution will never be to build more and more jails, but when you get stupid people voting for you when you tell them you'll make more jails, engage more cops, well, you don't really give a fuck about helping the society with having less criminals, because these criminals gives you power.
Oh man wasn't that an opinion ?

>break water pipes
>plumber comes to fix pipes
>kick them right after he fixes them
>he charges you more to fix the new problem
>you say "fuck the plumbers association"
>grudge against plumbers for rest of your life
