For everyone saying that it would cause the destruction of the Earth it's not true. Jupiter would never do such a thing. You're all overreacting! LEAVE JUPITER ALONE!!!
You're more of a dumbass for assuming that we don't already know that and that your brilliant for figuring it out. :)

Technically, if Jupiter were as far away from Earth as the moon is, the planet would be engulfed in the gas giant's atmosphere...

Just because we'd be close to the planet doesn't mean we'd crash into it. If our inertia was high enough we'd orbit the planet and become a moon. In fact, the moons of Jupiter are some of the (relatively) most feasible locations for humans to colonize and inhabit in the solar system since they have oceans.

That would create several major problems, actually..
It would block the sun from shining on parts of earth at all times, causing total darkness and perhaps extreme cold, even during day.
It would raise the sea level drastically, possibly leading to floods and other disasters.
In conclusion, no thanks.

i had some crazy dream about something like this, the sky was clear but planets would randomly appear out of nowhere in the sky and the gravity would pull people up, then the planets would disappear and everything would go back to normal.
the gravity of the massively larger jupiter would smash us into the face of the planet with so much force we'd be nothing more than a bug on a windshield
ah, on further research, you are correct. but it still has a massive gravity and a solid core. so the earth would still be pulled in, but the closer you get to the core the hotter it gets and we would be boiled alive before being smashed against the solid core
Seriously funnyjunk? This got front page. See that green thumb, it's NOT the like button from facebook!!

Fact: If Jupiter were that close its radiation belts would kill all life on the planet.
