On a serious, and hopefully gentleman-like, discussion, why is playing Terran sometimes frowned upon by the SC2 community? I've been playing Terran since SC1 and maybe a week ago gotten SC2 so I don't really get it.

They are very often seen upon as the most "cheap" race to play in SC2 because they have so many different cheesing strategies that are very hard to counter. And in the low rank they are the most safe race to play because few in the low ranks know how to deal with a tank/bunker/turret turtle defense setup (including me, I suck at that game), where they will just get a massive army rolling and then just steam roll the enemy because they can expand so super safely, and the enemy can barely even get out of their base.
