Read the first three chapters of 50 Shades of Grey for a vocaroo.
That book is fucking awful, and the fanfiction-ness just fucking oozes from it.
User avatar #359859 to #359809 - rynkar (01/18/2015) [-]
Isn't the guy, Whatever Grey not even into the sex part of bdsm? Like all he wants to do is beat the main character?
User avatar #359870 to #359859 - tvfreakuk (01/18/2015) [-]
The only thing I know about the BDSM parts is the line "I don't make love. I fuck, hard." that my friend showed me - and when my mam was reading it she kept going "*gasp* My, I've lived a sheltered life..."
User avatar #359872 to #359870 - rynkar (01/18/2015) [-]
Yeah, but something about hitting someone for sexual thrill does not jive with me.
I don't think it's sheltered, I think it's just being normal.
#359873 to #359872 - tvfreakuk (01/18/2015) [-]
I guess some people might like it.
Freedom said that it wasn't a good representation of BDSM, or at least not accurate but I wouldn't know because it's never concerned me before
I also know of a weird Japanese film called 'Ichi the Killer' that I haven't actually watched myself, but is apparently fucked up with a lot of torture and is a film involving "the ultimate masochist meeting the ultimate sadist"
So yeah... I'm just not sure.
I also watched that Nymphomaniac film; it was quite boring, but the scenes where the character delves into BDSM were quite interesting - and man, were they suspenseful as fuck, and acted really well. I wasn't really interested in the BDSM part, and I honestly couldn't care less that the character at that point had "lost her sexual pleasure and was experimenting to search for it again" - I just found the pacing and themes interesting in how she abandoned her son for hours at a time so she could get paddled and whipped.

User avatar #359891 to #359885 - tvfreakuk (01/18/2015) [-]
btw I'm on chapter 3 now and it's fucking ridiculous
"omg I have all these hot guys pining after me even though I'm not pretty and I'm not interested in them; sure, they're hot but they aren't like Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights or whatever, man I love British books; did I mention that already?".
User avatar #359892 to #359891 - freedomreturns (01/18/2015) [-]
Like I said, the author could not project harder. She could at least have pretended to not be writing a fantasy of hers.
User avatar #359887 to #359885 - tvfreakuk (01/18/2015) [-]
I imagine not to the extent it is in the examples I've given though.
The BDSM chapter in Nymphomaniac has a scene where she's lashed 40 times until she's raw and bleeding.
User avatar #359860 to #359859 - freedomreturns (01/18/2015) [-]
No idea, I stopped after the third chapter.
I definitely didn't wanna see how she wrote a sex scene.
User avatar #359861 to #359860 - rynkar (01/18/2015) [-]
I read the wikipidia synopsis (because vague interest in it when some female friends talked about it) but that is honestly how it seems. Because apparently he has her sign a contract so he can do what he wants, then beats her so bad she runs away from him.
User avatar #359862 to #359861 - freedomreturns (01/18/2015) [-]
Yeah, pretty much. It's abuse more than BDSM. I heard about that part too.
User avatar #359815 to #359809 - tvfreakuk (01/18/2015) [-]
I can't even get passed the point where she has the interview with him. I keep trying to read it but can't.
I plan on watching the film (but not paying for it)
Hopefully it'll be better on screen than it is in writing.
User avatar #359821 to #359815 - freedomreturns (01/18/2015) [-]
That part was awful, of the three chapters I read that was the worst.
She could not possibly project herself onto the character more.
User avatar #359831 to #359821 - tvfreakuk (01/18/2015) [-]
It's not even like it's something new and controversial either. There was a film in 2002 called 'The Secretary' that involves a BDSM 'master/sub' type relationship.
Heck, the guy in that even has the last name Grey like the guy in 50 shades.
User avatar #359832 to #359831 - freedomreturns (01/18/2015) [-]
I wouldn't be surprised if she ripped it.
It's not even a good depiction of BDSM.
User avatar #359834 to #359832 - tvfreakuk (01/18/2015) [-]
I really want to read it through and reach the BDSM parts; just for the sake of curiosity.

The thing I heard about it being the copy of something was that it apparently started off as a Twilight fanfiction or something? But I never saw any proof so just took it as people saying shit about it just because they didn't like it.
User avatar #359835 to #359834 - freedomreturns (01/18/2015) [-]
If it's not she was at least a fan of it.
Lot's of character looks and actions are very reminiscent, at least I got halfway through Twilight though. That book was more boring than anything.
User avatar #359840 to #359835 - tvfreakuk (01/18/2015) [-]
Urgh, I just tried to read it again. In the first couple of paragraphs she states that a girl who is ill with flu or whatever is prettier than her. Self pity is the worst trait a main character can have when it's their only defining feature.
User avatar #359841 to #359840 - freedomreturns (01/18/2015) [-]
Be prepared for at least one self pitying comment every page.
User avatar #359847 to #359841 - tvfreakuk (01/18/2015) [-]
Yep, next page she feels self-conscious about the clothes she's wearing, comparing herself to the "immaculate" receptionist; also the line "I don't fit in here. Nothing changes, I inwardly sigh."
The page after that, she again compares herself to the security, who are also better dressed than her apparently. Oh, and of course she would prefer to be "reading a classic British novel, curled up in a chair in the campus library." Of course she'd be a bookworm.
And two more "impeccably dressed" perfect blonde women? Man - is Ana the only unpretty, non-blonde woman in this whole fucking book?
User avatar #359848 to #359847 - freedomreturns (01/18/2015) [-]
Now that you mention it, I don't think there is.
User avatar #359852 to #359848 - tvfreakuk (01/18/2015) [-]
If her mother is in this book, or her mother is mentioned at all; I'm betting that somehow her mother will have the same features as Ana but somehow be more beautiful than Ana.
User avatar #359837 to #359835 - tvfreakuk (01/18/2015) [-]
I actually read all four Twilight books; I at least appreciated some of the stuff Meyer tried to do with it - but had the same problem as Shades; in that there are no interesting characters and the main character is a bland "wah, I feel different than other people and I look really basic - no one would ever love me; man, that guys cute, he would never love me. Wait a minute, this guy loves me? Why would he love me? No one likes me and I'm not pretty - he couldn't possible love me!"
The biggest let down of those books though, was the ending. It leads it all up to this big epic battle between the oppressive vampire royalty people and the Cullens (and other assorted vampires that were more interesting than the main characters) and then it just sort of drops off into a back and forth debate about whether they should fight or not and then they don't fight.
At least in the film we get to see the fight and it's actually fucking epic - but then it's ruined by it just being a premonition from dancy pixie vampire to the guy who can read minds by touching them vampire royalty leader person, and although we see the battle, it amounts to little more than what's essentially a dream.
User avatar #359836 to #359835 - princessren (01/18/2015) [-]
probably because both books were basically just made to sell well to a female audience to the point were it was a science.

I hate how I don't have friends anymore. I know you guys don't like me and are going to make fun of me with shit like, "I know why you don't have friends," but fuck you.

I've never been a social butterfly, but I've generally always had people to talk to, but I haven't had many people to hang out with in a year. There's only been one person that I've actually gone out of my way to hang out with. The others have just been me hanging around people at college before and after class. One thing that makes me feel better about that is that one of the guys used to be really social, but he says that that's pretty much the only social interaction he gets now.

Anyway, my college is like nothing but niggers. The black guys are generally pretty nice, but they're annoying and loud, and the black girls are just the fucking worst. At least at my old college, there were respectable black people, but not here. I just get niggers and niggers and more niggers.

Out of all the students at that school, I've gotten two people's numbers. One I never texted because I really didn't like her personality that much after I had gotten it, and the other I felt got annoyed by me. I'm sure that one's just in my head because, apart from texting, she has initiated every conversation with me except for one, but I could tell she wasn't into the conversations, so I just stopped.

For fuck's sake.
There's also all the dishes that need cleaned, none of which are mine - I'm sure everyone else is thinking "Man, only 3 of these things are mine; I'll wait until everyone else cleans their stuff up first" but are ignorant to the fact that 3 things from each person adds up to all that mess and they should just all clean up their own shit as soon as they see it.

I mean, my room's a mess with 2 pizza boxes in the corner and clothes all over the floor, but that's my room - I'm fine with it being messy; I'm hardly going to have the communal areas messy as fuck, as they are - to the point we have yellow milk in the fridge.

My teacher uses it and everyone in the class does, but it could just be something he came up with) to make sure the program actually works. I spent the majority of the test worrying about why my program wasn't giving the desired output, and I even stayed for about a minute after class. I forgot to save a value to a variable. Something so small that I know to do but just forgot this once caused so much distress because I thought I was going to fail the test. And I wasn't even being graded on that part.

Anyway, she was talking about elementary, middle and high school, and my brother and I were like, "What the fuck is middle school?"

To this day, I still don't actually know which grades are middle school. I know 9th-12th are high school, but that's only because that's when grades actually started to matter for us.

Anyway, she was talking about when the high school years were, and we were arguing that high school was 7th-12th.

I went to a small private school my whole life, and I just assumed that all these public schools did the same thing with their grades.

I wouldn't say it was nothing
you have to play the game, you can't just not touch the controller.
If you are already getting meaningless achievements I don't see the issue with "hey good job, you have come this far" type of crud
User avatar #359722 to #359720 - babybeel (01/17/2015) [-]
Plus to be fair that doesnt bother me that much as long as its not the only achievements in the game. Like Walking Dead. Its not hard at all to finish chapters, most the time you're watching and pressing any button, there's not really any point to having achievements there at all in my opinion.

Can someone explain to me the purpose of pirating tv shows and movies?
I can understand it if it was like 2006, when streaming wasn't that big and everybody was still on dialup or broadband
But I can't for the life of me understand why you would still do it in 2015, I know a lot of people still have shitty internet, but I think most could still be able to stream a movie in HD
It just seems like a waste of hard drive space and time to download

inb4 hurr durr streams aren't in HD
No. If you actually took the extra 2 minutes, you can find any show or movie stream in HD.
User avatar #359706 to #359670 - alexanderburns (01/17/2015) [-]
are you retarded
#359700 to #359670 - tvfreakuk (01/17/2015) [-]
Most of the stuff I download I end up deleting anyway after a while.
The only stuff I ever actually find streaming in HD is cartoons; I can never seem to find TV shows in HD, they always have a blocky compression going on that's really distracting no matter what site I find; whereas with cartoons, I go to watchcartoononline.com and most if not all I've seen on there are HD (sometimes 4:3, sometimes 16:9 - but mostly HD, or at least just not blocky looking - unless it's newly released, then it has a high chance on not being HD)

As for the wait - I'm willing to wait for an hour and do other stuff while a torrent downloads; and it's worth it when you can actually get something in 1080p. Sometimes it's longer - but I don't just sit there looking at it download. I once waited 2 days for a TV series to download - but I did productive things like my uni work and cleaning the house and shit.
User avatar #359693 to #359670 - babybeel (01/17/2015) [-]
I stream nearly everything, but torrent some shows or movies I really like just in case my internet goes down or I'm on a train without wifi so I have something to watch.
User avatar #359685 to #359670 - EdwardNigma ONLINE (01/17/2015) [-]
Because its free.
Thats why most people do it.
User avatar #359681 to #359670 - ferrettamer (01/17/2015) [-]
1, the internet back home is shit and I had to torrent instead of stream, especially if someone else was doing something else on the internet, 2, road trips or other times you know you won't half internet, 3, internet can slow down or stop completely in the middle of a show, meaning you would need to buffer, 4, some people like to catalog and store shows, 5, it's easier to find high quality torrents then streams
User avatar #359678 to #359670 - leonhardt (01/17/2015) [-]
Because pirating a movie/TV show is free.
You usually have to sign up for a movie/tv streaming service and pay real money

Take for example Netflix.
That's 8 bucks a month, for a small selection of movies.

They have like 2 of the shittiest Godzilla movies, and one of em they have to mail to you.

So I pirated them. All 50 years of Godzilla movies. I just have that now.

User avatar #359926 to #359768 - thebestpieever (01/18/2015) [-]
A kid can take a disappointment, really. If you're poor enough that your kid cannot get a single game he wants a year then that kid has to learn to not get what he wants. If you're rich enough that your kid always get what he wants and can't handle it then your kid has to understand that no acquisitive power can get him all his wishes, and he won't always get what he wants.

It sucks, yes, hell the kid can cry and all. If it "ruins christmas" you have fucked up as a parent.

This post is actually fucking retarded. I know most gamergate posts are, but this takes the cake. 1, Tyler Wilde never reviewed any Ubisoft games since he started dating that chick. The only piece that could have been considered opinionated was the Watch Dog article, and everything else was news articles. 2, calling yourself the "pc master race" is retarded. Yahtzee said it as a joke, and some people still use it as a joke, but the amount of people that use it seriously is ridiculous

It's not complicated at all dude.

You simply can't expect someone to write a fair piece about someone they're involved with.

Either A, the person they're writing about is going to get their feelings hurt if they write a critical piece
Or B, they're gonna lie and make shit up so they can still get laid.

please, they give you the impression they will change and they stay the exact same as always. they will always accept money from developers, they will review in closed environments were the flaws aren't shown (ie, hale mc edition) and they will continue giving in to developer's wishes (ie the ac unity embargo).
And how does that answer my question? The content says "admits mistake" when he didn't admit anything, he just says he will enforce the policy that was already in place, to make sure that Tyler doesn't release any articles that are bias. Nowhere did it say that Tyler created articles that were biased
