I noticed something. You're either guildmaster, or listener or some kind of title for everything but "Dawnguard" of which you are simply a member... or perhaps it's "Has the biggest member of the lot of us", a title announcing to the world that you've grown a pair larger than any other member in your travels and have earned the right to sit as their champion.
Some bitch was racist to me because I was a high elf so I changed my mind and joined the other side.
Most stormcloaks are pretty recist. Ulfric being the king racist. It's the main reason I joined the imperials. I couldn't really care who's on the throne, but because Ulfric (and most stormcloaks) are just plain racist and uberpatriots I joined the imperials.
The imperials are so much simpler. O, we tried to execute you? yeah sorry for that, but are we cool now? People accidentily trying to kill you in bethesda games isn't really new, plus the imperials don't give a fuck about religion and I'm okay with that.
This turned out way longer than I planned to. sorry

How did you get that companion armor? I've completed the companions twice and I don't have it.
The stormcloaks don't think about the future. They're just "hurdurr skyrim belongs to nords, hur durr we racist".
The imperials are smart and think about the future. They are willing to set aside one god to prosper in the future. Plus they're not recist. Very important.

From the information I've gathered it's a peace treaty made after the war. It was made because both sides (Empire vs Thalmore) saw that the fighting wasn't really going anywhere and the situation on both sides began to get worse. Thus they decided to have a peace treaty, but because the Thalmor did have the upper hand in the war, they wanted the peace treaty to include the banishing of talos worshipping (they did not see Talos as a real god, but simply as a man made a god. The thalmor look down on everyone who is not their own kind, so they wouldn't accept a "puny" "man god").
The imperials could live with the Talos banishing, but the Stormcloaks felt it was part of who they were and wanted to get their right to worship their god back. I think this is completely understandable, however, since I am not religious, I believe the wellbeing of men should come before religion, which is the imperial view on things. I honestly have no problems with the stormcloaks fighting in what they believe for, but they can try to be lesser dicks when doing it.
Hope this helped!

Well you have to keep in mind that what we see as religion, in the Elder Scrolls universe, is actuality. The gods actually do exist and it's not just faith, and that the worshipping of the gods is what helps make them stronger. Considering Talos was risen to Aedra status, and supports the side of the Imperials, banishing him, would greatly reduce his influence on nirn, and thus weaken the imperials against the Thalmor when they decide to attack. For this reason I chose to side with the Stormcloaks.

You DO realize that Talos is holding the world together, and outlawing Talos worship is part of the Thalmor plan to weaken Talos, destroy the world, and allow them all to become gods, right?
Stormcloaks may be Nord-Supremacists, but they're the only think keeping the world alive.

Imperials are puppets of the Thalmor ad the emperor is dead (If you kill him).
Ulfric is under Thalmor control whether or not he knows it, and the stormcloaks are racist dicks.
Thalmor are bigger, more racist dicks than the stormcloaks.
Kill them, Johnny. Kill them all.
There should just be an option to claim the throne and become the Dovahking.

Either way, the Thalmor lose because they are actually benefiting from the war. The problem, though, is that the empire has already lost to the Thalmor, meaning they are more likely to lose again. However, if Ulfric wins over Skyrim, and with Hammerfell rebelling too, they might have a chance against the Dominion.
The dovahkiin, and possibly a small dragon army, might help as well.

The Dovahkiin and the "armies" he commands (3 dragons, dawnguard/vampire lords, dark brotherhood, compaions, College of Winterhold, etc.) could wipe out the Thalmor in a week.
From a non-dovahkiin standpoint, The Stormcloaks could not hope to defeat the thalmor in skyrim alone. Hammerfell is busy with the dominion already. If the empire began to be reunified, they could Aid Morrowind in its recovery, then retake the southern provinces and send relief to hammerfell.
With Hammerfell, Cyrodill, Eleswyr, Black Marsh, Skyrim, and Morrowind, Retaking Vvardenfell (and possibly Orsinium?) wouldn't be too difficult. With that, Summerset Isle would be the only place left that the dominion could hide. The Empire could then launch a massive invasion with armies from every province, and crush the dominion. THEN and only THEN should people worry about petty squabbles like Skyrim's Civil War. The best way for this to happen would be for the Stormcloaks and the Empire to come to a TEMPORARY truce, and then they could resolve the problems after the second Great War ended.
If the Dovahkiin expended all his efforts into aiding this, it would go by much faster, and, while the Greybeards would not approve of such direct use of his power, it would create a chance for peace to occur over a longer period of time.

I think the thalmor actually befit from the stormcloaks winning, as it divides the power of the empire, giving them an advantage if when war breaks out. That's why they sent in their judiciaries and outlawed talos, to piss off the local population.
Both parties are against the Thalmor, only the imperials handle the problem better. If you chose the imperials, the high elves won't bother you. If you chose the stormcloaks, you will have the thalmor and imperials chasing your ass.
the empire are against the high elves, they just nearly beat them in the war.
In the game you can find some dialogue that explains, the peace treaty is only a way for the high elves to reinforce and re arm, and it gave the empire a much needed re cooperation, the high elves are so involved in skyrim because they know if skyrim becomes independent, the Empire is doomed, as well as the rest of tamriel.
so basically, who would you rather be ruled by? Empire or Elves?

Yeah this gets kind of annoying, feels like you do nothing to effect the world. :\
when one of them said it, it generally pissed me off.
so what did i do? i walked away. i followed him from a distance, with my dark brother hood Armour on. I watched him walk all through out the city, greeting others and using his presence to keep the peace. He soon retired to the barracks, his shift over. i stalked him in there, jumping from cover to cover without making a sound. he didn't bother to take his armour off, but just laid down on a bed. He was skipping supper, there were no other guards in the room. i slowly walked over to his bed side, pulling my blade of woe from it's sheathe, getting closer and closer to him, staring into his closed eyes, keeping the laughter back from the slaughter that would soon begin.
He slowly open his eyes, sensing someone was there he saw me, and got wide eyed. I slapped my hand over his mouth to keep him from screaming. I did a shushing gesture with the blade, and stared into his very soul, soon to send it to the viod. a tear appeared from his eye, and i wiped it away.. leaned close to his ear, and said....
"i liek chocolate milk!
