The kid has some sort of ailment, we'll just call it cancer (because he's bald). Father's crying for his boy because he's getting worse and the cancer is beating him. The little boy is dreaming that he's being chased by monsters, or in other words, the cancer cells are destroying his body and he can't fight it. Then he gets treatment, and his mind incorporates the treatment in his dream as help to defeat the cancer cells. The help (or treatment) takes the form of something he trusts and knows, in his dream his stuffed animal thing. Hope that's explicit enough, buddy.
