As soon as all the Avatar posts die down, the Atheism ones come back...

I hate to say this, but I would rather have Avatar posts over this shit. At least Avatar posts are mildly funny and don't start shitstorms that ultimately amount to nothing. Seriously, I don't give a fuck about your religion. I only care if you're funny or not. And this, OP, this is not funny.
#372 to #345 - N. Korean citizen (06/25/2012) [-]
Well, I'll admit that some Atheist posts are funny.

>As soon as all the Avatar posts die down
i have not seen an avatar post all day and yesterday i only saw like 3, but there were like 9 or 10 complaint posts complaining about the number of bendingtime posts there WERE, they were complaining about something from the past. the flood of bendingtime posts will not happen again until the next season which will not be for many months

So your god is omnipotent and omnipresent and works "mysteriously" to bring everything to a good conclusion? So then, he already knows everything that will ever happen. So then, he must have everything going the way he thinks is absolutely best. So then, prayer is not only futile, but is actually questioning god's divine judgement and thinking you know better than Him.

Enter, deism.

He stated it as fact that it wasn't funny, and only because it was by an atheist.

I stated my opinion that it was funny, and I think so because it's appropriate content under the appropriate channel and it made an attempt at humor.

I'd love to hear any argument against this

If this is "bashing" you may be a little too sensitive for this type of website. This website bashes all sorts of people yet when it comes to religion it's all of a sudden not funny? Nope it still is, religious people need to learn to laugh at themselves.

And just so you know this is the atheism channel on funnyjunk so this is perfectly suited for atheist humor. If you expect serious atheist related posts I think you might want to check the title of the website again

I don't have a problem with religion or religious people. Being an atheist, I sometimes wish I could have the hope that believing in a higher power brings. However, I look at some of the things that are happening to good people and I figure that if there is a "god", he is not always a compassionate one. I do not think that religion breeds stupid individuals who are blind to science; that's just not true. For, with ideas such as religion, feminism, socialism or even atheism, there will always be a group of people who take these ideas to extreme and absurd places and refute other ideas that are presented to them based on that idea. So don't hate religious people or atheists; hate zealots such as the Westboro Baptist Church or the Labour Party.

Did it work?

NO: God doesn't exist you ignorant boob.

YES: It's just a random coincidence.
#330 to #275 - N. Korean citizen (06/25/2012) [-]
I say "I'm going to find a quarter lying around on the street" thousands of times.

Eventually as I do find a quarter on the street.

Was me finding the quarter a result of what I said day after day, or was it just a coincidence?

Which seems more likely?
User avatar #613 to #330 - arrisarrad (06/26/2012) [-]
Hey, I'm not saying some people don't attribute mundane occurrences to supernatural intervention in a completely ridiculous way. But when something astronomically unlikely happens, it's probably caused by conscious intervention. If you were to find a quarter in the exact place on the sidewalk every day (and yes, I know the your example did not rely upon it occurring everyday, this is my example) someone probably put it there.
User avatar #273 - thatstraightop (06/25/2012) [-]

I don't understand why religious people get so mad when people say god doesn't exist. it shouldn't be a problem if you KNOW that it does. plus we'll go to hell for hurting god's feelings so it's a win-win for them
#292 to #271 - N. Korean citizen (06/25/2012) [-]
Technically, considering that you need evidence just as much to disprove as you need to prove, we find it astounding that you treat the idea of intelligent design being incorrect as fact rather than a theory on the same level as the big bang and others like that. We have no problem that you don't believe God exists, we just find it incredibly ignorant of you to go against your own scientific nature just to fight the very idea.
User avatar #357 to #292 - Xedan (06/25/2012) [-]
Also, intelligent design isn't on par with evolution for the same reason me saying "everything falls because an invisible pink African elephant named Manard puts them on the ground" isn't on par with newton's theories.
User avatar #353 to #292 - Xedan (06/25/2012) [-]
The burden of proof is on the party making the positive claim. Same reason we don't have to prove there's no flying spaghetti monster.

/thread
User avatar #326 to #292 - ahj (06/25/2012) [-]
Actually, you don't need as much evidence to disprove as you do to prove. In order to prove that something exists, you need to have some sort of testable evidence to support it, while to prove that something doesn't exist, you only need to point to a lack of evidence supporting it. If there is absolutely no evidence for something happening or existing, then it's not scientifically valid.

I can't believe it. Since I've been here I've seen atheists trashing christians because they say that they shove christianity down other's throats. But I seen NOT ANY FUCKING CHRISTIAN shoving his religion down other's throats or trashing atheists. I used to have respect to atheists beliefs, but now I've been proven by funnyjunk and found out more that 90% of funnyjunk atheists are retarded 13 year olds who think it's cool to make fun of people's beliefs and jumped the bandwagon. Bring in the red thumbs I don't give a shit.

Atheism : a disbelief in the existence of deity

Hmm funny how that doesn't mention the Big Bang theory... Ohhh that's because it has nothing to do with atheism! And you're an idiot for making a connection between the two when they don't exist!

And also pictures are the lowest form of evidence in the scientific world so that's a stupid statement too.

You are the reason everyone hates idiots.

Here, this would have gone perfectly with how you ended that post.

But yeah, I don't state my religious beliefs (or lack thereof) on the internet. I don't need to convince anyone of anything, point out flaws in anyone's argument. I don't take solace in crushing a persons dear and long-held beliefs, not that I could or ever would try. There are people on all sides of the argument who act like dicks. I think that's why a lot of the religious wars started, because of a few cunts on either side.

TL;DR: Everybody chill.
#312 to #237 - slimjimlol (06/25/2012) [-]
The atheism channel does not shove atheism down people's throats, it just points out obvious flaws in organized religion that christians should really think about.

i live in the south, and I've encountered ton's of religious people pushing their beliefs, people have handed me pamphlets outside of department stores, and fast food places. one year a lady handed out bibles instead of candy. I know not all Christians are like that, and i respect everyone's beliefs, but it does leave a bad taste in my mouth, especially for baptists.
#612 to #304 - fatterthanu (06/26/2012) [-]

lol im surprised you've heard of Jacksonville actually, was it the murder rate that made it so famous? lol maybe im being a little hard on it cause of all the ghetto people, south Jacksonville is actually really nice, and the beaches are nice too. i can see how Maryland would be voted a great place lol i love how north eastern states have small towns! not everything is so strip-mall-y and generic. no cookie-cutter subdivisions. I'm definitely moving up north eventually.
