Based on poltergeists, it takes possession of appliances, gaining new forms, moves, and (in 5th gen) types based on what it controls. An oven gives it overheat. A washing machine gives it hydro pump. A desk fan gives it air slash. Etc.
I'm really fuckin sick of every nostalgia circle jerk pokemon discussion goin "Herp derp refridgerator. New pokemon suxorz", when Rotom is magnitudes more creative than almost any pokemon they can name.

Personally, I think that the three pokemon shown above are fine. Wobuffet is awesome. The terrible one are:
Dugtrio, Magnemite, Slowbro, Grimer, Muk, Mr. Mime and Jynx
Igglybuff, Pineco, Slugma and Smoochum
Lotad, Lombre, Nosepass, Gulpin, Swallot, Baltoy, Claydol and Spinda
Bidoof, Bibarel, Honchkrow, Mime Jr., Hippopotas, Lickilicky and Probopass
I don't know 5th gen, so from what I do know, the ice cream and gear ones.

CrashingSea (06/20/2012) [-] Exeggcute actually wasn't that bad... it got some good moves later on and magikarp was SUPPOSED to be a testament of a trainer's skill and patience to take something that was virtually worthless and turn it into one of the most powerful pokemon you could obtain. The same, but even more so, with Feebas and Milotic.
