He was modeled after a producers friend's kid (or something along those lines), who was super chaotic, and crawled all over his father, who calmly picked him off or played with him and stuff.

He was made to be a chaotic entity in the show, definitely humorous. What they wanted to do at first was make his entire head pretty lumpy, wanted him to be ugly. They eventually settled on the one lump we all love.
