He's Tarlock's father. He had his bending taken away and he was very good at his bending when he had it making it possible for him to learn the ability when it was done to him.

I want him to be related to the other series. However i feel like he wont be and a lot of people are going to be disappointed when his identity is revealed.

My girlfriend came up with a really good theory:
What if Amon is Bumi, Aang and Katara's second child? Bumi is the only non-bender of the Avatar's children so it would make sense that he would resent bending. In addition, with no bending to protect him, its quite likely that Aang would teach Bumi how to take away bending and maybe even Katara would teach him how to resist blood bending.
Obviously I'm not saying its fact, just another theory

I'm going to guess that Amon is Yakone, finally making good in his vow to take over Republic City. He wears a mask, not because his face was disfigured, but because he would be easily recognized without it. It's been my theory, since Tarlok mentioned him in the first place. (I was also correct in guessing that Tarlok was Yakone's son, after the very first glimpse of the flashback, let's see if I'm right about this one too.)

I hope season 1 ends with Amon taking off his mask and Korra being sucked inside, and we learn that Amon is actually a time portal trapped inside of a robot. Season 2 will start with Korra coming out of the time portal to meet sixteen year old Aang, and will bring momo back to the future at the climax. This arc is necessary due to the fact that Legend of Korra so far has had no momo appearances, reducing the ratings drastically. Executives at nickelodeon anticipated this, and created this arc. MOMO > AMON

my theory- Amon used to be some sort of bender and worked for aang in building republic city when he was younger. Amon was really into knowledge and was highly intelligent, aang told amon about the library in the dessert and how the library sank into the ground and was never to be found. amon travleled the whole dessert and eventually found the hidden library amon and a couple of his men beside him killed the owl and raided the whole library. as amon got deeper in the library he found more history about the past avatars and found a way a secret way to energy bend, but energy bending was not the only thing amon learned in the library. as amon stood for weeks gaining more intellect and new ways to block people's bending, he came across a book on how to energy bend the avatar and gain the avatars spirit, and eventually gain all the avatars powers(but the avatars have to be in the avatar state for him to take it). amon thought that the avatars powers belonged to a more rightful person so he went back to republic city after the events of the Yakone conflict and started a group of secret henchmen to take capture aang but failed and eventually lead to amon and aang having a fight to the death. aang was too strong went to the avatar state and burned amon's faced and amon fled to exile. many years later amon came back with a mask hiding his identity and wanted to do the same with the new avatar but in order to do that he needed to take peoples bending away so that they do not become a threat so he starts the "equalist movement" to manipulate people into capturing benders and take their powers away so that he can have an easier time taking korra's bending away. Now amon is waiting for the right time to tick Korra and turn her into the avatar state so he can swoop in and achieve his goal.

There are very few people in this world who are truly bad. Think about it, not matter how insane, seemingly evil and murderous someone is, chances are somewhere in their heart they have good intentions, if not warped and selfish. Amon in all reality is just trying to make the world a better place. In his mind, benders are evil and cause nothing but destruction. In some ways this is true, benders do use their powers to control others, but because of his warped mindset due to having his parents killed by benders, he generalizes all benders as evil, while in all reality it's just the Triple Threat Triad. Most rapists only end up raping because they think the girl wants to have sex with them, because the man is to narcissistic or self ritious to listen to them. Think about it, even Hitler had good intentions. He tried to conquer and kill so many, only because he wanted to create a pure, ideal race in a utopian society, and thought he was the right person to control it. It takes quite a lot to be truly bad. Just some get so confused, warped and deluded, so they become seemingly so very evil.

Yes, but the labels of bad and evil are reserved for people who do things that the whole of society can generally agree are those things. It doesn't matter what the individual thinks, it matters what the rest of society thinks. Hitler was 'bad' because he killed millions of people, which is considered bad by society. Rapists are 'bad' because they commit acts that have been declared criminal by the rest of society. You can't label someone based on what they think of their own actions, because everyone will do what they believe to be 'right' when faced with major decisions. It is when their version of what is right conflicts with what society says is right that the individual is considered evil.

Then define evil at heart. You can't judge people in any way besides judging their actions. Ultimately, every single person has a reason they believe is good for every single action they commit, so there is no universal 'evil' that you can hold someone up to and call them as such, just what society says is evil.
