User avatar #27476 to #27469 - CapnInterwebz ONLINE (04/19/2013) [-]
Intentionally? Probably not. Possibly. Unintentionally? Definitely.

To say that we are not guilty of the same things our enemies are is ignorant. Maybe we are not guilty, or maybe not even on the same scale, but we as a nation have done as much bad as any other country or group.

It's all about perspective.

That is what I hate. America freaks out when something big happens here like a a few bombs killing a few people. But nobody freaks out when a drone strike every other day kill dozens of innocents including children across the world. I'd say we have brought more terror to the ME than they have to us.

THEY FOUND THE FUCKERS

One dead after intense gunfire in Watertown, Massachusetts -- MIT campus officer shot and wounded as well. The other bastard is at large -- the entire Boston area is on motherfucking total lock down as hundreds of cops and feds move in to nab him.
User avatar #27439 to #27437 - CapnInterwebz ONLINE (04/19/2013) [-]
Get this: the 2 primary suspects are brothers from Chechnya who came to the US with student visas. On "social networking sites", the younger of the brothers has described his worldview as Islam. Also, a THIRD suspect whose connection and identity are not being revealed has been caught by police and is in custody. Again, more than one million people in the Boston area are told to keep indoors as the massive manhunt including thousands of officers begins.

Earlier that night the brothers went on a crime spree -- robbing convenience stores. hijacking a vehicle, and eventually shooting the MIT cop.

During the massive gunfight that went down between cops and the suspects, another bomb was thrown at officers -- it exploded in the street before it got near anyone else.

Hmm. Either these two are just crazy, or, perhaps, though I doubt it, maybe the bombers were planning to lay low, then their faces were released, so they did this to try and get some cash or whatever, and leave the city.

After years of protests that were violently suppressed, even the IMF is warning against austerity that doesn't work.

WASHINGTON — Britain and the Eurozone are steadfastly sticking to austerity measures despite increasing evidence that such action alone isn't working to revive their economies and is dragging down global growth.

Austerity works. Iceland, Switzerland, Latvia, Estonia. Austerity has not been attempted in Greece or the Eurozone. The problem in Greece is that it controls fiscal policy but not monetary policy. Under Greece's condition, since it refuses to cut the budget, the only other option is a currency devaluation, which it cannot do.

Oh, and I guess to contribute:
I read in here that good people need guns because bad people have guns. It was an anon. There are less-than-lethal weapons out there so you don't have the whole "I just killed a guy" on your conscience even though it was in self-defense. You're safe and the bad guy is in prison.
I don't think people need guns, but we don't need a lot of things. However, those other things we don't need like colored fabric have fashion in mind. I'm not big on fashion, but I think it's like "keeping up with the Jones's." Flavor and such. I'm inexperienced with the subject of guns, but I don't think you need a strong powered weapon for self-defense or fashion. If the other guy has a bigger gun (Personally, I don't think he'd be robbing you at your house or on the street), then think smarter not size.
That's my opinion.

From the Black Panther's Ten Point Program:

7. We Want An Immediate End To Police Brutality And Murder Of Black People.
We believe we can end police brutality in our Black community by organizing Black self-defense groups that are dedicated to defending our Black community from racist police oppression and brutality. The Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States gives a right to bear arms. We therefore believe that all Black people should arm themselves for self- defense.

The police as an entity exist to protect the capitalists, not the people. Communities should arm themselves for their own protection. In the words of Marx:

"The arming of the whole proletariat with rifles, guns, and ammunition should be carried out at once [and] the workers must ... organize themselves into an independent guard, with their own chiefs and general staff. ... [The aim is] that the bourgeois democratic Government not only immediately loses all backing among the workers, but from the commencement finds itself under the supervision and threats of authorities behind whom stands the entire mass of the working class."

In hostile environments where the police are brutally racist, I can understand. Ideally, the law enforcers aren't racist or loot at stereotypes, but this isn't an ideal world.
Also, do you believe people will only use weapons for defensive purposes? It's part of the reason there is gun related crime. A high-powered gun is too much. A simple "back the fuck up" small firearm can defend against another small firearm cop, but nobody wants to kill a cop (for logical reasons). That actually makes the news and you're automatically the bad guy. Less-than-lethal weapons disarm the foul cop, and people won't hate you.
User avatar #27435 to #27432 - oxan ONLINE (04/19/2013) [-]
>Organise
>Chiefs
>General staff

It's not simple arming of individuals, but arming of organised communities that collectively defend themselves.

Please note I'm not speaking specifically of the United States, but of the world. Certain countries require more radical action and more urgent implementation of Marx's call to arms, some countries - while it's most definitely still necessary - can undergo slower organisation into militias.

Imagine what the Maoists would've been able to do during the Tienanmen Square protests if they were armed. Considering armour was deployed, it's doubtful they would've 'won' but at least they could've caused more disruption for the capitalists.

I kind of enjoy showing this to people who do that:

“… the workers must be armed and organized. The whole proletariat must be armed at once with muskets, rifles, cannon and ammunition… Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered; any attempt to disarm the workers must be frustrated, by force if necessary. ”
– Karl Marx, Address of the Central Committee to the Communist League
User avatar #27421 to #27419 - oxan ONLINE (04/19/2013) [-]
I have a slightly different one:

"The arming of the whole proletariat with rifles, guns, and ammunition should be carried out at once [and] the workers must ... organize themselves into an independent guard, with their own chiefs and general staff. ... [The aim is] that the bourgeois democratic Government not only immediately loses all backing among the workers, but from the commencement finds itself under the supervision and threats of authorities behind whom stands the entire mass of the working class. ...As soon as the new Government is established they will commence to fight the workers. In order that this party (i.e., the democrats) whose betrayal of the workers will begin with the first hour of victory, should be frustrated in its nefarious work, it is necessary to organize and arm the proletariat." - Karl Marx, Address to the Communist League (1850)

I think the stat was skewed from "90% of Americans support background checks" to "90% of Americans support universal background checks". The first one I can believe. The second one... less so.
