Oi, Russia is master ruse man
>Russia’s state-run OAO Rosneft (ROSN) said a well drilled in the Kara Sea region of the Arctic Ocean with Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM) struck oil, showing the region has the potential to become one of the world’s most important crude-producing areas.

>The announcement was made by Igor Sechin, Rosneft’s chief executive officer, who spent two days sailing on a Russian research ship to the drilling rig where the find was unveiled today. The well found about 1 billion barrels of oil and similar geology nearby means the surrounding area may hold more than the U.S. part of the Gulf or Mexico, he said.

User avatar #69986 to #69984 - whatley (09/27/2014) [-]
National pride is usually an inefficient concept. I'm not a fan of immigration but that's a result of the way it's usually done. A large amount of national pride could well cause problems for the immigration I like.

>liking any form of immigration
>being this shill
User avatar #70000 to #69991 - whatley (09/27/2014) [-]
Immigraton can be good as it increases the supply of labour, decreasing wages, increasing business efficiency and encouraging investment in the long run.

What makes immigration bad a lot of the time is how governments do it. Things like:

>Letting literally everyone in
>Letting people in when labour markets are oversaturated, leading to leeching
>Not doing anything when your immigrants are trying to do things like enact Sharia law
>Letting in people who can't speak the native tongue to a reasonable degree
>Giving immigrants special rights that put them above the native populace

I don't see the problem with letting in immigrants with a decent education, can speak the language, no or minor criminal record, and people who wont do dumb shit like blowing themselves up or destroying culture.
#70001 to #70000 - youregaylol (09/27/2014) [-]
Immigration only helps two groups (besides the immigrants themselves), business men and cultural marxists. The state can adequately control the growth of the market and ensure that the native populace can provide the needed labor at fair wages. Business men love immigrants because they are easier to exploit than native workers, and will use them to provide excessive amounts of wealth for themselves, wealth that they could not have made by paying fair wages to natives and expanding at a smaller rate.

Unless the entire (physically able) country is employed and the uneducated all have jobs there is no need for immigration unless the state subsidizes laziness for an exorbitant amount of time.

Cultural marxists benefit from immigration because introducing a foreign element into the nation increases strife.
User avatar #70007 to #70001 - whatley (09/27/2014) [-]
>Fair wages
>Not understanding that concentrated wealth for businessmen and corporations is a good thing

Sorry, I didn't realise that you were a liberal.
#70008 to #70007 - youregaylol (09/27/2014) [-]
Liberal =/= anything involving the state
Liberal = american leftist, pro fag culture, pro immigration, corporatism, welfare state, affirmative action, multiculturalism, anti gun, anti military, feminism, and cultural marxism.

youregaylol = far right, pro family, anti immigrant, anti corporation, anti welfare monkey, pro worker, monoculturalism, pro gun (in the citizens hands), pro military, pro traditional gender roles, and pro order and civility.

Businessmen can earn a respectable wage in their trade while still working within the interests of the state. Opportunism and exploitation is a sign of treachery to ones nation.
User avatar #70010 to #70008 - whatley (09/27/2014) [-]
No, exploitation and opportunism is a sign of maximisation of growth and efficiency in the long run. If you wish to be inefficient and grow slowly then so be it, but it's economically ignorant and has no place in politics.

"No, exploitation and opportunism is a sign of maximisation of growth and efficiency"
User avatar #70012 to #70011 - whatley (09/27/2014) [-]
Yes?
Forcing wages down means that the company has more money for investment and to lower costs further.
High concentrations of wealth in a small minority (The whole 1% thing) means that there's a significant amount of money that the banks have to loan and increase investment further. You could have a more even distribution but that means that very little money would be saved, it'd all be spent by people increasing demand, inflation, and setting up for severe stagflation in the future.

Study some economics.
#70014 to #70012 - youregaylol (09/27/2014) [-]
A couple problems here, but first lets focus on the fact that you associate your form of economic prosperity with exploitation, and that you consider this a positive. I think you need to phrase your ideas better.

Then lets go on the "study economics" nonsense, you're aware that there are other schools of economics besides Chicago and Austrian, correct?

Third, you assume that service to a state somehow prevents companies from being efficient, and that you need individuals to invest to keep the country running, when a state can have that exact same function. Large industries would become nationalized, their operations and profits belonging to the state who would then expand the operation steadily concurrent with the needs of the state. In addition inflation can only be caused by government, as the government controls the currency and the amount available to the public, meaning that controlling both large industry and the monetary supply you have an economy that is subservient to an entity, not an individual plutocracy.

You do not need an individual to make an investment in the nations industry, you only need the industry. Unemployment can be eradicated and a living wage can be achieved and surpassed if you mobilize the upper class in collaboration with the working class.
User avatar #70015 to #70014 - whatley (09/27/2014) [-]
Well I don't much care how the idea sounds, the implications are the important thing. Free market set wages, little government intervention, and maximisation of efficiency and growth.

I don't subscribe to any specific school of thought, I just say what I say based on the research and theory I've studied.

Nationalisation of industries are usually extremely inefficient due to them being a part of a greater whole, diseconomies of scale kicking in and inefficiencies manifesting within the government-corporate link. They're also less efficient than privatised industries as profit is not at the heart of their existence, rather a service to the people and government becoming paramount. Combine this with the fact that governments often sacrifice economic efficiency in exchange for political sway, monopolies becoming near impossible to remove if they become inefficient or more efficient rivals come along, and no pressure from shareholders to increase profits, and you usually have an inefficient system, and even if it is done well, still less efficient than privatisation.
As for the inflation part, I assume you're basing this off the monetarist's view of inflation where MV=PT? Yeah, the government has full control over the money supply but the velocity of circulation is only fixed in the short run, in the long run there can still be huge inflation, and there would be due to the more balanced distribution of income and wealth.

You don't need an individual, you need large corporations and banks, heavy state interventionist policies are good at making people happy in a singular timeframe but not at advancing forward, as profit incentive is dulled and free market economics is not allowed to push the markets towards the natural state as well.
#70016 to #70015 - youregaylol (09/27/2014) [-]
Expand upon the idea that nationalization equates to an automatic increase in cost. Profit that will be utilized by the state is a benefit to the state, therefor it is a major priority. Any profit created will be used to increase the workers wage or the industries scope as necessary for the state. There does not need to be individual selfishness for a company to be efficient, only proper management. In a centralized government where the power is rested in strong executive branch that serves as a vanguard to the states interest there would be no political favors to be traded for stability, in fact the current corporatist system is solely responsible for increased corruption and big business running rough shot.

Inflation can only occur when there is more currency introduced into the system than there is a demand for said currency, since the state controls and observes demand there would be no hyperinflation to deal with.

You need a system to distribute currency, and you need industry that can provides jobs as well as goods and services, and thats all you need. A living wage is the only incentive the average man needs, and with experience and seniority he can have a comfortable retirement, anything else is inconsequential.
User avatar #70018 to #70016 - whatley (09/27/2014) [-]
It's tautological, it's what you're saying. There will be an increase in costs as you will raise the wages of the workers, therefore increasing the cost. Any profit not used in future investment after paying for all costs is by definition inefficient, as it will not cause the greatest long run efficiency.
Exactly "Proper management". This is where the diseconomies of scales I mentioned kicks in. Managing government owned industries usually results in improper management as they are so large you cannot micromanage things to be efficient, and you still have the problem of no competition and threat to nationalised firms.

What you're talking about is called the monetarist theory of inflation, where MV=PT, where M=money supply, V=velocity of money (How quickly money is spent), P is the price level, and T is the index or real expenditures (This one varies slightly based on your sources but the principle is the same. And you're correct in saying that control of the money supply means that inflation will not rise due to that, but the increase in wages and more balanced distribution of income means V will increase, causing inflation.

Yes, like I said, your system would work and people will generally be fine in a given timeframe, however you don't progress much, you don't grow. It's evident by your dismissal of anything else being inconsequential that that's the only timeframe you're concerned with. This is not economically viable in the long run.

From what I understand, social democracy is a capitalistic / mixed-market system with social policies (some welfare, progressive taxes, etc.). Originally, it was supposedly a way to bring socialism in a capitalist state through reforms, but nowadays we see that they generally stick with social capitalism.

3. Do you think guns should be banned?
4. Do you support socialized healthcare?
5. Do you believe minority groups should receive special treatment under the law to offset social discrimination?
6. Do you support any special interests groups (e.g. feminism, gay pride)?
User avatar #69956 to #69951 - feelythefeel (09/26/2014) [-]
1.) Yes, but not directly. Just through incrementally increased taxes based on wealth to be used towards social programs.
2.) I think regulations are required, but I can't say whether that would be more or less than where you're referring to.
3.) No, I just think that there should be regulations on who can legally acquire them (At the very least strict training should be required beforehand).
4.) It depends on the nation. Some countries just can't support it. But if it can (countries like Canada and the UK and the Scandinavian countries), then by all means.
5.) No.
6.) It depends. Gay pride is understandable (They actually face actual legal discrimination). Not feminism, for obvious reasons. If the people that the special interest group represents faces actual discrimination that it's the government's business to deal with, then there's a good chance I'd support it.
#69990 to #69956 - cabbagemayhem (09/27/2014) [-]
You're a lefty moderate, so you're wrong! I'm guessing your political positions are mostly based on common sense.
1. It makes no difference if it's direct or indirect, except that, indirectly, the crime is less visible to the public and less controlled. Graduated taxes are mathematically unfair, and social programs do more harm than perceived good.
2. You don't seem to have an opinion on regulations. There is a balance, but the ideal balance is almost certainly fewer and more analogue regulations.
3. There are already too many regulations on who can legally acquire them, and none of them do any good. Training is already required beforehand, but lack of training isn't what causes most gun related deaths, it's the lack of guns the hands of the good guys.
4. Any country can support a socialized healthcare system if it's designed well-enough, but they're never better off. Socializing healthcare stamps out innovation and makes them dependent on countries like the U.S. for research.
5. So you agree companies should be allowed to discriminate by race or gender if they want?
6. If someone is discriminated by law, that's one thing, but what legal discrimination do homosexuals actually face?

User avatar #69934 to #69933 - feelythefeel (09/25/2014) [-]
It depends on the person. Humans are also by nature a species with a group based mentality. People are more likely to help others when it's for something mutually beneficial, yes, but it's definitely not out of the realm of possibility to find people willing to help others regardless of personal gain.
User avatar #69935 to #69934 - pebar (09/25/2014) [-]
Without a doubt, people are social creatures, but do you think that group mentality is enough to run an economy?

IMO it is not, because people usually only cooperate when they get something in return. People are not likely to work for the sake of some guy on the other side of the country whom they've never met. At least not on the level necessary.

Do you favor at least some aspects of capitalism?
User avatar #69936 to #69935 - feelythefeel (09/25/2014) [-]
