If you're wanting to build muscle, eat at a caloric surplus. For chest building, you'll want to do bench for overall mass, but I would honestly recommend dumbbell presses instead once you can do them correctly.

Chest flies, cable flies, there are plenty of chest workouts.

I want to build mass in the chest area, and first build up mass, then got for form. I can do them, but did not really know the best way to do them.
And about push ups, should I try to do as much as I can when I wake up and before sleep?

Push ups really should be only used for more of a stretch during non-workout periods. If you must do them outside, I would do them in the morning as: your test levels are higher when you wake up, and if you do them before bed, you might mess up your circadian rhythm

How much can I fuck up my fat loss goal by having a pack of lays and a single can of soda a day.

I think soda is terrible when on a diet because of the huge amount of sugar it contains. Going easy on the sugar in general is good for you.

Also, how big is the bag of lays? How many calories does it contain?

Looking at your post that you gave fuzzybutt, let's guess your calories:

Paratha - 250 cals (not familiar with the food, correct if I'm wrong)
2 eggs (whole?) - 140
6oz chicken (if not skin/fat) - 150 cals
Deep cooked (frying)? - 50 cals from veggie, then most likely 300-500 from your fry mix.
Lets just say another 150 for your dinner.

No idea what you're having with in Junk food supper.

But from what I have information wise, it appears you are only having about 1,250 calories. So it's not exactly that you're craving junk food (which still may be a part of it), you are probably just craving food in general. If you provide more details and how much you're eating, I can give you more of a macro break-down and to recommend a good diet for ya bud

I'm at 174 pounds and I lift 3-4 hours 6 days a week and my maintenance is around 2600, and I probably have a bit more muscle mass than you do as I've been lifting for a long time.

But we'll play with 2800cal, if you incorporate 4 days of moderate cardio, a 2200 cal cut would allow about 1 pound loss a week, a cut down to 1800 cals would allow 2 pounds a week.

For weight loss, you'll lose water weight first, and then fat. You will lose some muscle mass, however if your macro's are correct and you are lifting correctly, it would be minimal.

It really depends on how badly you want your goals. You can post a pic of your current body (just to see fat/muscle ration) if you would like, block out face of course.

The easiest changes would be to keep your 2200 calorie cut, but you'll need to drop the junk food.

While yes, if you are below calories, you'll lose weight. However when you reach a certain point of when 2200 doesn't lose at the same amount as it was before, the macros of the food you're eating (fats, carbs, protein) will come into play. You have way too much fat in the current diet, and most likely your sodium is pretty high as well.

Your wants to have an equilibrium of sodium and water. So when you consume excess sodium, it will retain more water to keep that balance. Just a remember, a gallon of water is a bit over 8 pounds. So it's very easy to have a pound or two "pop" up just from excess sodium intake.

There is also the other health affects from sodium such as hypertension, heart issues and all that jazz.

You'll have to taper down to the calories you want to cut to.

Week 1 - 2500
Week 2 - 2250
Week 3 - 2000
Week 4 - 1800
Week 5 - 1700

Something like that usually makes it pretty easy.

I would then recommend cutting a bit more weight first, probably drop down to about 150-155, then lean bulk back up concentrating on hypertrophy work.

It's a long long long process and you won't see results overnight. And since you're gonna have loose skin, it'll look better after a bit of time a good work and diet for your skin to tighten back up.

personally, I think suppressing cravings will just make them come back stronger and you'll be more likely to over-indulge.
However, I also wouldn't recommend having a pack lays and a can of soda every day because that would slow down progress quite a lot.
Perhaps you could do every 4 days, you can have a pack/a can even though thats quite a lot, it will lower cravings and over time you will crave less and less.
Changing your diet is a slow process and it isn't always a good idea to cut yourself off all at once.

My meal plan is a blend of desi (Pakistani/Indian) home cooked food and some junk food.

It follows a similar pattern as this.

Breakfast at 6 30 am, usually a paratha and two eggs.

Lunch at 1:30, usually a deep cooked vegetable with mutton/chicken.

Gym at 5:00 pm

Junk food supper

Dinner at 8 : 45 leftovers from lunch or again junk food.

I'll also add that you'll want to replace those missing calories with something else if you're struggling to get enough. You might want weight loss, but too little calories isn't going to speed it up more than just an average deficit of calories would.

Well, it's not an ideal diet in terms of weight loss, but from what I know of Indian food it's fairly protein and carbohydrate rich, so if you're going to the gym with a decent program it's a good enough basis for muscle growth.

"Junk food" supper/dinner combined with the snacks and drinks you mentioned earlier is probably something you could phase out over time, although the faster the better.

If going cold turkey didn't work, just do it gradually. Have your snacks say, every day for a week or two. Then have them every 2 days for a week or two, and just gradually wean off of them.

As for the shoulder whenever I get weird joint pains I use some slightly warm oil to rub on the pained area lightly. It feels really better in a few hours.

Also when sometimes I get shoulder pain while doing lateral raises I use the pull down machine on very light weight and do behind the head pulldowns. You would not believe how much pain that machine relieves.

Oh good! It shouldn't be that big of a system shock then just be sure that you're still getting the minerals that you'll be missing from cutting out the other types of meat (i.e. missing Iron from a lack of red meat is a big one for girls). Other then that you can get both fatty and "lean" fish so you'll be fine there. Really the best way to start is to just cut out the things that aren't fish and learn how to cook fish really well or eating will become a chore and nobody wants that.

Honestly I'm not aiming for something huge, just good toning.

And from your list it seems that I'm already going well.

Going to the gym
Looking to destroy some chest
Thinking of exercises to do 12-20x5
Bench, dumbbell press, and dips already down. Anything else you recommend?

Hypothetically, what if for a month I stop pushing my self to the max and only use 50-60% of my 1RM.
Will I lose strength and/or muscle? Or will I stay on my 1RM and progress only? And when I get back to pushing it to the max, it will be as I only pressed pause for a month.

RIP gains.

Jk, you can go as much as 3 weeks or even longer without actually losing muscle. You'll be weaker when you go back, but that's just a product of being out of the groove. Don't sweat it mayne.

Should I go lift weights or go for a long strenuous hike after class today? Normally I'd go hiking but I get out at 11 today, so I feel it might be better to just go lift

I uploaded this as content, hopefully it might get some more people interested in training. So if you wanna thumb it up or whatever, hopefully we can get a decent amount of people to see it and possibly get some more traffic here on the board as well.

It's a deadlift platform in my friends home gym. He has a better facility than I do, which is why I did the challenge at his place. My gym is a shed in my back yard.

August for me was:

First 2 weeks stomach bug, throwing up nonstop and unable to eat for days, lost 9lbs

Second 2 weeks, Tonsilitis, no sleep and unable to eat for days, lost 4 lbs

And now September: depression because I can barely manage 4 measly pullups before my joints snap
