Foster The People - Pumped up Kicks ] IT'S FRIDAY TOP 5 HERE AT THE /MUSIC/ BOARD
To start off this tradition lets do it simple
What are your top 5 favourite songs?
5 - www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WUdlaLWSVM Derek and the Dominos - Layla: the most rocking riff and two different movements with different moves plus one of the rawest and most passionate vocal performances of the 60s
4 - www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjqdDMgpbDU Swans - The Seer: A dark and insane 30 minute post rock epic with every emotion in spades, shame gira admits he has no idea what or who the seer is
3 - Foster the People - Pumpped Up Kicks: music is not all about passion of experimentation, sometimes you just wanna dance, and this is the catchiest song i've everheard
2 - Radiohead - Bodysnatchers: same idea as before, if you wanna rock it this is one of the rawest and most lively songs ever recorded with that simple production and that rich and raw guitar plus the best drumming in rock history
1 - NIN - The hand that Feeds: POWERFUL vocals and guitars with a CRUSHING tone but a beutiful back melody and poignant lyrics and added synth texture PERFECT song

hit me with yours /music/

Well, I'll restraint myself to a song per artist so this isn't a Michael Jackson only list.
5. www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdkoqafUWz8 Noiseless Heart by Mitche M: I'm a pop guy at heart. A catchy tune is all you need to gain my heart. But pop is home to the lazy and to the simplistic. Mitchie M is not that, with layer upon layer of little flourishes and extra melodies and a lovely mix of 70s pop, 60s rock and modern dance and pop music it's so infectious it's almost unbelievable. Plus the smooth jazz influenced lead melody drives me wild. Released just a month ago and already in my top 5 most played songs this is so good I can't take it. The biggest problem is the fake vocalist, which obviously can't give the mileage of a real one. But she does not detract from the tract, she only doesn't add to it.
4. www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfK-WX2pa8c London Calling by The Clash: With jazz inspired disonant intros and lyrics that, for once, are both fun, well written poetry, and interesting to my own lift London Calling defines my taste in many ways. The Clash were not the best at anything, but writing simple melodies that fit like a ring to their simple delivery. It creates a mood more commonly seen in soundtracks than traditional music, with all the polish, thought and meticulousness of traditional music however. Love it.
3. www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNKttMFgaf0 NIB by Black Sabbath. Geezer Butler is god, and so is his tone and his fantastic fills and basslines all over Sabbath's discography. Nowhere is this minimalistic but smart approach to bass technique more evident than in the intro solo and subsequent song in Black Sabbath's NIB. The bassist's bible, a catchy riff and heavy funkiness all in one track. Yes please.
2. www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrIPxlFzDi0 Satisfaction by The Rolling Stones. The track that skyrocketed distortion pedal sales. With that rich tone is it any wonder? The perfect balance of solos, riffs and rhythm section in one track. A cheeky, bouncing yet simple bassline and guitar florishes over Mick Jaggers minimalist but charismatic delivery of the stones's trademark sarcastic and snarky mocking of all the nuckle draggers that bought their music back in the day, plus a little cheeky love story on the side. There's not an easier way to pump me full of adrenaline than to blare this track across the room.
1. www.youtube.com/watch?v=PivWY9wn5ps

www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_D3VFfhvs4 Man in the Mirror and Smooth Criminal by Michael Jackson. I could never choose betwen these. Jackson is my idol. His soul inspired delivery with a little rock growl is the best I have ever heard. These tracks and the rest of the album are the only tracks in which I can not only tolerate, but actively love 80s synths. Many layers and backup vocals, always with trademark funkiness and melodies that 20 years later still get to me like nothing ever has. Jackson's disregard for genre conventions in favour of a big mash of stuff he thought cool is my favourite approach to music, and these tracks wear it in spades. The lyrics to one are mostly fun fluff that works fantastically on a rhythmic level, if nothing else. The other one is a gospel through which I try to live my life. They have both formed my taste to levels I can't describe and after decades of listening still have an effect on me like nothing else ever has. There's a reason I shed teard for jackson when he died, and that reason is that nothing ever has and maybe ever will take me to such emotional planes as his music has. I could never sing enough praise to these bona-fide 20th century pop symphones. A potpourri of all that was good and worthwile of music up to that point, save for the experimental currents of music. I am a pop man at heart 'cause of these. And I have never begun to get tired of them.

It's already hard to pick up favorite albums, and to pic individual songs? Man someone owes me 20 minutes of life.
But here it is. I feel kind of bad for not include a single electronic song and stay stuck to rock only.

5.- Alice In Chains - Man in the Box www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLUj-jh_UyQ
This song is great for the powerful vocals and also the lyrics, Layne knows how to make poetry even when he wants to shit on someone.

4.- Nine Inch Nails - The Becoming www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCxz-d7jQwU
Agressively and violently beautiful. The evidence of Reznor's great ability to compose song, with heavy industrial riffs and also an acoustic moment that fits perfectly and gives a good atmosphere to the song.

3.- Queens of the Stone Age - The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret www.youtube.com/watch?v=0l0nzPpvbFs
I love how QOTSA can compose songs that I trully consider "erotic" being a hard rock band, and listen to this song is like if the track is actually flirting with you and is doing it damn good, and that bass line is just unf~

2.- Mad Season - Wake Up www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5Ok7_KFuZw
There's some mellow and also joy in this song I can't resist, the composition in this track is so fantastic, emotional, emotive, not for anything Mad Season's Above is my favorite album of all time.

1.- Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mbBbFH9fAg
Super popular grunge song from... the grunge days. I love this song for the metaphorical lyrics and chill but heavy rock vibe, also the dark atmosphere of the song.

Is it like a different 5 something every week? That might be good.

Man, I love The Seer. Even if it's about nothing it still sounds amazing. I'll do my favorites out of the music I've been listening to recently, and I guess only the ones on youtube. I don't think I could narrow down any all time favorites to 5.

5. Lubomyr Melnyk - Marginal Invitation www.youtube.com/watch?v=nE8Dq0vm1r8 Solo piano minimalism, lots of repeating and slowly changing patterns. It ends up being sort of ambient, kind of like Terry Riley's sort of music.
4. falls - structured air www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vhdnqx6YTQU electronic and dreamy with the kind of bass that might make you worry if someone rolled up next to you bumping it at a stop light.
3. COH - I-II Andante Facile www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHUH9XgdkBA The way the piano is edited on this track and the one before it on the album is one of my favorite things in electronic music, and something I want to get down myself production-wise.
2. Maurice Ravel - Pavane pour une infante défunte www.youtube.com/watch?v=tn6_yT9SKpM Impressionism, one of my favorite piano pieces from Ravel, I just started learning it too.
1. Roly Porter - 4101 www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZjxlerb1A Electronic, harsh and ominous, from an album based around the journey of a probe into an alternate universe.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQ_KVI18UgI they're not always so chaotic, but they definitely always feel a least a bit unstructured that gives it a real nervous sound, and i LOVE nervous music

i guess i can't describe nervous music, i guess i should mean minimal punk that usually incorporates cheesy 80s synths, www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnHUPvFaZdM odbrana i poslednji dani (my favorite album of all time, fucking perfect) is a good example of this
