ATOMS FOR PEACE - AMOK (Vinyl Rip) Who can tell me what makes the big difference between Atoms for Peace from Radiohead? For be a sideproyect it should sound a bit different, but I can't really scense anything new and the fact that they got Flea in the bass doesn't really change anything.
User avatar #124007 to #124006 - thebestpieever (07/25/2014) [-]
I get a slightly poppier feel from Atoms for Peace and a slightly Rock (as in, still pop but it gets called Rock 'cause reasons, kind of like The Beatles) feel from Radiohead. But yeah, they sound pretty alike.

Any guitarists here have a Strat?

And would it be worth saving up for one?
#124032 to #124001 - jippythebandit (07/25/2014) [-]
It's worth it if you are more of a blues rock kind of a guy. Hendrix, Clapton etc.
60-70's progresssive and classic rock. It's great for bending.

If you are a poor peasant, you can order one made in Mexico (Still the same model and made by Fender, original, good quality but not as good as an American)
User avatar #124033 to #124032 - snohball ONLINE (07/25/2014) [-]
I'm thinking either the Clapton model, or Dave Murray model.
#124034 to #124033 - jippythebandit (07/25/2014) [-]
I've got a black Clapton, and it's really good for Hendrix-era kind of music but i don't know about metal.

Anyways, here are some musicians that use Fender, so you get an idea.
Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton (after Cream), Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits), David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) and Ronnie Wood (The Rolling Stones)
Also you got John Mayer...

It's an epic masterwork of a guitar, but best for lead.
User avatar #124035 to #124034 - snohball ONLINE (07/25/2014) [-]
Oh yeah, I'm a lead player. I'd go for a Les Paul if I was rhythm
#124036 to #124035 - jippythebandit (07/25/2014) [-]
Nice to hear.

Anyways, it's a good guitar. Beside from the sound, it's a beautiful work of art. Works in most colours, even cream white or in a worst-case scenario pink.
So yeah, go for it if you don't find any better options. Good luck.
User avatar #124037 to #124036 - snohball ONLINE (07/25/2014) [-]
Thanks mate.

I plated a Clapton strat in a music shop, but I don't know if it's my feel.

Does it have a vintage tremolo?
#124038 to #124037 - jippythebandit (07/25/2014) [-]
A synchronized tremolo system, same one as in the 50's.
User avatar #124039 to #124038 - snohball ONLINE (07/25/2014) [-]
That's the one!

How well does it last before loosing tuning?
#124040 to #124039 - jippythebandit (07/25/2014) [-]
If using the tremolo a lot, not a very long time unfortunately. But for normal playing it holds. If you are an active musician it should make it through a gig using the tremolo.

If you get frustrated by it, maybe a Floyd Rose is a worthy investment. Not that bad price and worth it for all types of guitars. Keeps the tuning even with extreme pitch-changes.

Talking about tuning, the strat is great for different tunings if you are into that.

User avatar #124042 to #124040 - snohball ONLINE (07/25/2014) [-]
Nah the only thing I change to is DADGAD for some Zeppelin.

But I mean I see Dave Murray use his a lot and the tuning sounds great. I just don't want to buy something I'm expecting, and then not to get it.

Thanks for the info, but I've also been looking at a Jackson that uses a Floyd rose. I've never had a guitar with a tremolo you see, so I'm a little excited.
#124043 to #124042 - jippythebandit (07/25/2014) [-]
Go with your feeling man. One thing about tremolo is that it might be a bit hard to get into at first, if you don't know that you are doing, but once you got the groove you got it.
Play on mate.
#124010 to #124001 - mrphoenicks (07/25/2014) [-]
what kind of music do you like to play?
User avatar #124011 to #124010 - snohball ONLINE (07/25/2014) [-]
Quite a strange variety.

I like playing stuff such as Dire Straits and then I'll play some Megadeth and Iron Maiden.

So classic metal is my main thing.
User avatar #124026 to #124011 - popkornking (07/25/2014) [-]
Dire Straits would sound best through a jazz guitar, but it would be silly to buy a new axe for every new band you want to play and for that exact reason a good jack of all trades like a strat would be a good quality investment.
User avatar #124027 to #124026 - snohball ONLINE (07/25/2014) [-]
Cheers dude. It's just the money for something like this is a problem, with them being so expensive.
#124012 to #124011 - mrphoenicks (07/25/2014) [-]
i suppose it would be worth it then, it'll probably work well with things like dire straits and maiden.
User avatar #124013 to #124012 - snohball ONLINE (07/25/2014) [-]
That's why I'm leaning more towards something wit h2 humbuckers.
#124022 to #124013 - mrphoenicks (07/25/2014) [-]
sounds good, that will help when playing the heavier stuff, the single coils tend to lack in power.

Well I'm thinking of going for a HSH setup so I can get the variety.

I've currently got a nice DT 50 Ibanez Destroyer, being a huge Maiden fan. (Pic related)

Do you own a Dave Strat yourself?
User avatar #124100 to #124096 - darksideofthebeast (07/26/2014) [-]
I wish, I was gonna get one then money issues.

Oh well, I currently own an IBanez rg420fb.
I wish Dave had a new custom strat with hotrails.
His new strat is beastly, although I like the traditional cream humbuckers. It looks really smooth and sounds really smooth.
User avatar #124103 to #124100 - snohball ONLINE (07/26/2014) [-]
I'm a huge fan of Dave's style, it's so different and I haven't heard any guitarists with a style like his.
See I'm unsure about his hotrails, I liked his sound from the 70's and 80's when he used his twin humbucker with the single coil in the middle.

Also my Destroyer's has V2's which apparently were Ibanez's take on Dimarzio super distortions and if they sound similar, there wont be any complaining from me.

Here's something you might be interested in too...

Dave Murray Solo God (and the power of a Stratocaster)
User avatar #124104 to #124103 - darksideofthebeast (07/26/2014) [-]
I've seen that, you're talking to someone who owns 14 maiden albums and Dave Murray is my favorite guitarist for the simple fact that he made me want to play more.

His hot rail Strat is pretty fuckin' sexy sounding too, it's got a nice tone and it has very good sustain.
Which is normal for a good hot rail set.
Infinite Dreams Dave Murray's solo Iron Maiden

Some random kid in this video is the proof.

Hot rails are damn smooth, humbuckers are still amazing though.
And the ones he has are actually kinda cheap to buy, just a bitch to put in.
At least I wouldn't know how and I wouldn't want to fuck my guitar up.
#124105 to #124104 - snohball ONLINE (07/26/2014) [-]
Bought myself some frames the other day for my mums copy of NOTB she bought in '82.

Dave Murray's legato is just too good. Adrian is my favourite but I love Dave style more as it's more unique.

I mean I love 80's Maiden the best, but I always thought Prowler was the best solo he came out with, but I love how his solos fit with the slower blues esque with Adrian, together they are a killer combo.

Dave Murray is my joint #1 with Adrian.
User avatar #124106 to #124105 - darksideofthebeast (07/26/2014) [-]
I agree, Daves style has always sounded more unique than a lot of people.

It should be working but whichever guitar has the strongest signal will pull tone from the other.

Say I play a humbucker and a singlecoil guitar into it and I use the Singlecoil guitar as lead thus humbucker for rhythm the humbucker will still have the stongest signal and your SC lead will sound like shit and have a lower volume than the humbucker.

Take into consideration that you still only have one amp volume knob. Using the ones on the guitars give you a little more freedom to kill signal and even out the differences.

I do not recommend for band rehersals or so on but as something spontanious it should be doable.

Often they're labaled Low and High. Keep that in mind too

But seriously, has Dave Grohl ever at any point denied that he has Confederate sympathies? These are the questions that modern journalists owe it to themselves to be asking.
User avatar #123948 to #123947 - thebestpieever (07/25/2014) [-]
I don't think he's got to deny it because this is the first time the topic has been brought up in the history of... forever, basically.

Megadeth - Symphony of Destruction (Studio Version) Y'know what really bothers me about this song even though I love it to death? It isn't grandiose enough to deserve its ass kicking title. "Symphony Of Destruction" is too cool to be used on a song with 3 riffs and a cool solo. I mean, it does sound classical. But if anything it sounds more like a minuet than symphony what with that staccato and the chromatic riffs. And "Minuet of Destruction" just sounds silly; like you're invited to a party at Destruction's house with biscuits and tea and maybe bit of dancing to her new song. What a waste of an awesome title.

I think you're spot on. This song seems to me slightly weaker instrumentally, compared to a lot of other stuff Dave has written on the rhythm side. Marty Does amazing with the solo though (as per usual).
User avatar #124008 to #124000 - thebestpieever (07/25/2014) [-]
No, I think it's amazing in the rhythm section. I just don't think it's elaborate enough to be likened to a symphony. I think a title like that would be more befitting to something like Holy Wars.

Holy Wars is a great piece. It's so complex, even the rhythm perplexes me. The solos are great. In fact I'd say that whole album was fantastic.

The song, not the title, you silly. Also, the word bolero is not accentuated in Spanish.
