I want to make a second post simply to thank you for posting this. I've been listening to the new song for the past 20 minutes and I can't stop. Thank you for posting it I probably wouldn't have noticed the track got released otherwise

Do you think the golden age of music has passed? Why or why not?
User avatar #80375 to #80288 - themastermorris (09/13/2013) [-]
Hell no, we live in an age where people are finding more and more ways to create music and bring new definitions for music. While some rather awful music is getting praise from the media, it doesn't change the fact that we have more types of music available than there ever has been.
User avatar #80394 to #80375 - DrCake (09/13/2013) [-]
I think it's too easy to make music nowadays. A lot of the fight is gone...Ofc i'm referring to the music that's being made without actual instruments.
User avatar #80395 to #80394 - DrCake (09/13/2013) [-]
I agree with your statement but there's a whole other side to this massive technological progression
User avatar #80397 to #80395 - themastermorris (09/13/2013) [-]
It is a double edged sword in that sense. I just try to find the music in which the musicians are putting their creative energy into making something new, whether or not it includes actual instruments

We can't hold it in our hands we don't feel the need to listen to it from beginning to end etc.
User avatar #80324 to #80323 - DrCake (09/12/2013) [-]
Basically, since we hardly buy music anymore it 's harder for songs or albums to have a profound effect on us.
User avatar #80326 to #80324 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/12/2013) [-]
So you think digital formats are ruining people's experience of music?

I couldn't disagree more.
User avatar #80327 to #80326 - DrCake (09/12/2013) [-]
Care to say why?
User avatar #80329 to #80327 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/12/2013) [-]
Putting a record on is more of a commitment than clicking a song in a music player on your computer, but if you want to listen to something, you will. If you don't, you won't. Why would holding a vinyl disc in your hand give you any more of a connection to what's pressed on it?
User avatar #80330 to #80329 - DrCake (09/12/2013) [-]
Sometimes we don't know what we will enjoy. If there was some cd laying around your house you'd be more compelled to listen to it than if it were online. Too many choices limit you.
User avatar #80331 to #80330 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/12/2013) [-]
I have a bunch of CDs lying around my house that I'm not at all compelled to listen What do you mean by too many choices are limiting?
User avatar #80332 to #80331 - DrCake (09/12/2013) [-]
Point is you are MORE likely to hear them. You might pop em in when you're cleaning your house or something. By "too many choices are limiting" i mean that because the whole world of music is available to us we tend to stick with what we think is good and less on what we might like.
User avatar #80333 to #80332 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/12/2013) [-]

You mean the same album? Like you have a CD of it or a download link? Of course I'd listen to the CD. My download speed is awful.

Why would I buy music I don't know about? Unless it was really cheap, which was something I did a lot this summer...

If you're checking stuff out online, you are totally free to listen to stuff you think might be interesting. That's something I do, along with most people I know who are into music. If you don't constantly have money to blow on CDs, it's not likely you're going to go out/order things you have no clue about.
User avatar #80334 to #80333 - DrCake (09/12/2013) [-]
Your personal issues aside, having a physical form of music makes you appreciate the songs more. Also everything else included, the lyrics sheet, the artwork, etc.
User avatar #80335 to #80334 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/12/2013) [-]
That's definitely the case for some people, I'm usually more focused on the audio component of music.
User avatar #80336 to #80335 - DrCake (09/12/2013) [-]
But do you agree that the art of making an "album" is fading away?
User avatar #80337 to #80336 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/12/2013) [-]
Not at all, why do you think it is?
User avatar #80393 to #80337 - DrCake (09/13/2013) [-]
Well because since a lot of albums are getting torn apart by listeners picking out their favorties. It's not that much of an obligation to listen to a whole album anymore because you can just download the ones you like.
User avatar #80399 to #80393 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/13/2013) [-]
You can buy singles in physical formats too.

Still, that has nothing to do with whether good music is being made or not.

I think it is just by judging the chorus
"when you lose small mind you free your life."
As in your spirit getting released from this puny reality that is not even a smudge of our true existence.

ITT: Five favorite metal albums of 2013 so far.
Pic related. It's metal.

5. Volbeat - Outlaw Gentlemen and Shady Ladies (Not quite metal but I'm putting it in on the list anyway.)
4. Huntress - Starbound Beast
3. Amon Amarth - Deceiver of the Gods
2. Chthonic - Bu-Tik
1. Soilwork - The Living Infinite

I want to put Vengeance Falls from Trivium on this list, because I love what I've heard from it so far, but I'm going to wait until it comes out.
