ITT: Bands/Artist you believe are severely underrated

And Also The Trees - Virus Meadow And Also The Trees, and very underrated post-punk/gothic rock band from the UK.

Absolutely love their music, they took elements from what sounds like The Cure, Joy Division, and early Wire.

A fantastic band that I recommend if you like: The Cure, Joy Division, Wire, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds and Bauhaus.

Hey Ocean! - Big Blue Wave [Official Music Video] Just say "If you like those bands".

I don't know, I don't really think there's such a thing as underrated because everything is subjective to taste. Overrated is different because it's very often filled with these huge, sweeping statements about "the best album ever made" and "the band that changed everything" and so on and so forth.

That said, I'm all for Hey Ocean! getting more exposure so they can tour and stuff because I really enjoy their work. They take elements of jazz, blues and swing to make an infectious and energetic type of pop I don't think I've heard before.

But if you like this kinda music, I you may like Rare Monk, if you're not already familiar.

Sounds like a normal indie pop/electropop song honestly...

Not bad though, just a bit 2generic for my taste

Dude, there's exactly two synths in the song. How can you even qualify it as "electro pop"?

But dooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooode, everytime I tell you one of your genres is shitty and made up you link me to last.fm. As well as when you fuck up and do something like calling London Calling a Punk Rock record.

User avatar #105609 to #105608 - thebestpieever (03/28/2014) [-]
Oh, it was rate your music, not last.fm.
We've been over this, if anything London Calling is Punk World, not Punk Rock. There's 4 punk rockers in there, the rest is jazz, reggae, there's a bossa in there.
User avatar #105610 to #105609 - shibe (03/28/2014) [-]
hey rateyourmusic also says it's Ska, Raggae and Rockabilly

If it incorporates jazz, reggae and punk rock I see no reason as to not call it Post-Punk.
User avatar #105611 to #105610 - thebestpieever (03/28/2014) [-]
Because London Calling isn't experimental. It's inclusive. Sure, they put their own spin to them, mainly the fact that neither Strummer or Jones could actually sing in a traditional sense so they sing all those genres like they would a Punk Rock piece, but other than that it's just a very diverse, yet not fusionist album. There's no genre mix, there's just a bunch of very diverse pieces thrown together.
User avatar #105612 to #105611 - shibe (03/28/2014) [-]
Post-Punk isn't always experimental.

Joy division love will tear us apart lyrics I usually see this as post-punk/new wave Post-Punk is basically the father of New Wave and New Wave is the son of Post-Punk

Pere Ubu - Nonalignment Pact I usually see this as Post-Punk/Art Punk, it's also post-punk, but it can be pretty experimental at times.

However, Post-Punk a lot of the time can be experimental, This Heat, Mass, The Pop Group are all very experimental bands.

I don't know about severely underrated, but I feel like Childish Gambino is. I've only stared listening to him in the last couple months, so I could be out of the loop, but from what I've seen he's not that well known for his rapping. I like how he never seems to take himself too seriously, he just really knows who he is. Not to mention that his wordplay is killer most of the time, having a double or even triple entendre on every other line. Telegraph Ave ("Oakland by Lloyd") - Childish Gambino The song is probably my favorite from his new album.
User avatar #105594 to #105593 - shibe (03/28/2014) [-]
He's not really underrated...

He's quite popular actually. Even when I used to only listen to pop music I loved freaks and geeks, it actually got me into hip hop.

So it's not like he's some unknown guy.
#105595 to #105594 - theafroman (03/28/2014) [-]
Well there you go. Like I said, this only from what I've seen. Most of the people I ask about it respond with "Childish what now?". I just don't know many people who really like or know him is all.

Anyone else go to the The Used concert last night? I would say it was one of my favorite concerts that I've been to so far, but I haven't been to very many. Taking Back Sunday, Tonight Alive, and The Used are all amazing bands, but unfortunately I missed Sleepwave because I got lost because we missed the exit. And the Palladium is one of the nicer venues I've been in.
