So, who do you guys think is the most underrated bassist around? My vote goes for Ryan Martinie, could listen to this guy play for hours, too bad there aren't many videos of him just jamming. Framus / Warwick - Meet the players - Ryan Martinie

Dream Theater Instrumedley MYUNG ONLY - "The Dance of Instrumentals"
I mean, John Myung isn't underrated or anything.
But I think he is one of the best Metal bassist's.

BLACK SABBATH - N.I.B. I honestly think the best metal bassist is the one that started it all. And by extension probably one of the top ten best bassists ever.
User avatar #106461 to #106456 - drldrl (04/04/2014) [-]
While I give him credit for being able to play without getting confused by all those strings, nothing he does has ever really impressed me. Ryan is just holy shit. A bass can make those noises?

Blood & Thunder Bass Cover
Well you know, there is always troy sanders.

He's honestly pretty underrated, when people think of Mastodon they don't think of great bass playing, they think of heavy ass music.
User avatar #106470 to #106468 - drldrl (04/04/2014) [-]
Pretty nice. The dude doing this cover should qualify for this too, he's pretty damn amazing, and the only person I've seen play Ryan's stuff the right way. He started a band but idk where that went. Mudvayne Pharmaecopia Bass Cover

I agree. I thought Hats Off to the Bull was a little bit boring personally (even though I love Chevelle) but those album kicks ass. I love that they went a bit heavier with this one. It reminds me of Wonder What's Next, but darker. Also, the artwork is fucking awesome.

I think your music could stand to get more uh, movement. It seems to exist in the same state for pretty much the entire song. The only ones I saw an appropriate progression where Mystical and CHeeSE2edit and the former pretty much stayed in the same place with some progression of the flourishes rather than the piece itself. But it seems you've been working on giving them more life so really it's just a matter of practice.

User avatar #106388 to #106387 - shibe (04/03/2014) [-]
Suits are pretty business-y, it's not something you really wear out in the streets all the time casually. You wear it for special purposes in making yourself look serious and ready.

Also what's the other thing, I probably won't get mad. I never get mad on this site unless it's something that just goes a bit too far.

naaaaah i think that's it. i just like the songs 'cause they long and contemplative in a way. it's like a journey

Nigga you just play that Explosions In The Sky album I linked in my previous comment, lay down and you'll see how you fall asleep easily, in a way, when I play that album while I take a nap it helps me sleep better and I feel like I slept better, besides, it's my favorite album of theirs.

While I consider GSY! BE to be the elite of post-rock along with God is an Astronaut, I consider MONO, EITS and TWDY to be the divine trinity of the genre, just my opinion though.
User avatar #106983 to #106982 - cosmicapprentice (04/06/2014) [-]
Shit I had caps lock clicked and didn't notice, lol.

I was just kidding no I wasn't Ok, yeah I was, don't take it seriously

Well YOB, plays doom basically, but they really change style throughout their albums, so each album isn't really the same as the previous one, so you could say that their genre is pretty much undefined.
Dark Castle play sludge/doom, Stevie Floyd (guitar/vocal) really knows how to make it sound heavy and give you a sensation of mysticism at the same time.
User avatar #106979 to #106977 - revengeforfreeze (04/06/2014) [-]

lyrically wise or musically wise?
User avatar #106326 to #106323 - kaisakuenkou (04/03/2014) [-]
Vocal-wise; im incredibly particular about vocals, Lyrics honestly don't matter to me, and as far as musically: intensely fast rhythms, (triggered drums/studio speed up) turn me off, it just comes off as "Who can play faster" as opposed to "who can play great tunes"
User avatar #106320 to #106319 - revengeforfreeze (04/03/2014) [-]
Well..... yeah :|
User avatar #106321 to #106320 - kaisakuenkou (04/03/2014) [-]

meh when I think softer, I don't really think of that. more like maiden and ghost and possibly some punk rock bands and not bands like anaal nathrakh and so forth

I do, yeah. I've been a metalhead for as long as I can remember, but as of late I've started to broaden my tastes a little bit. Since I rolled on molly at a rave a few months ago I learned that there is actually a lot more good music than just metal. Shit's good yo.
