Never liked Job for a Cowboy, but this is actually a really good album. I like the technical death metal sound they've adopted. I never did care for deathcore.

It was not a bad album i enjoyed some songs, a lot of it seemed to have been done before and was kinda dull

I really like the progressive sound of this album. If they continue in this direction I could definitely become a fan.

Yeah, their first EP, Doom is deathcore. I think they hated the reputation they got after that and switched to more just straight up death metal with their next album. Obviously the reputation still follows them to this day lol.

Hm, okay. Well, regardless, I really like the technical and slightly melodic sound they've taken to with Sun Eater.

drumstep is like drum and bass and dubstep had a baby www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgQ_UOujFbY my favorite example of the genre

house is really fucking broad kid, but it's basically dance music with a kick clap beat most of the time, but again that's really broad www.youtube.com/watch?v=52tKx7K7-QQ here is some fidget house

electro house is a subgenre of house, it's sound can vary but when you hear it you will know it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNP4eKJFFAA www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCnBrrnOefs

Drum and Bass is like drumstep without the dubstep parts, usually some amen break sped up and has a lot of jungle/breakbeat influence www.youtube.com/watch?v=uO7kCUjUaUE here is some great drum and bass

Future Bass is kinda a made up term for all music that's considered "future". By that usually sample heavy experimental music. But it's not really that experimental. www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8E5KnNPt4g

Glitch Hop is glitch and hip hop come together. Well that was it's original meaning. Now it means any dubstep that is glitchy. www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VoIz3CBF48 what glitch hop is now www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEbTHir5itc what glitch hop used to be *rip*

Trap is a style of hip hop characterized by hardcore 808 beats and repetitive trumpet sounds, but even then it's still catchy as fuck www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-uFZVsgwZc

ITT: What would you say that are the most escential albums of 2014?

Casualties of Cool - Casualties of Cool
Mastodon - Once More 'Round the Sun
Flying Lotus - You're Dead!
Run the Jewels - Run the Jewels 2
clipping. - CLPPNG
Lana del Rey - Ultraviolence
Swans - To Be Kind
Aphex Twin - Syro
Thom Yorke - Tomorrow's Modern Boxes
Rise Against - The Black Market

I'm not saying that these ase my favorite ones, just saying that these are the most outstanding releases of the year in my opinion. The ones that people should be aware of.
Let's try to keep it up at a max of 10 albums please.

I don't know what would define an "essential" album other than the ones I really really enjoyed, especially in an age where technical proficiency is often looked at as a choice rather than something to strive for.
User avatar #137573 to #137572 - masterofmuffins ONLINE (12/12/2014) [-]
I see your point, but in the personal I'd see an essential release as something that not only had a good reception of the listeners but also had a great production, or we're a good progress on the band's discography, or things like that.
For example, I never really digged the new Mastodon album because I'm not a big fan of them, but I admit that it was a great work from them and they deserve the recognition they had for it. Might sound kind of silly, but idk it's still up for the opinion of each one. If you can only list things that you enjoyed by your music taste it would be a valid thing too.

Actually, I listened to the Nirvana one I posted. That version doesn't actually have the same chords as the original, and I can't find a decent one. But still, you can see how the tones differ.

Aye, I follow you. Sadly I can't think of anything that goes with the tone of Aeroplane Over the Sea, is not my kind of style on a first place.
I was going to say the album In Our Nature by José Gonzáles but it's way too out of those tones.

(Nirvana) Smells Like Teen Spirit - Gabriella Quevedo Neutral Milk Hotel - The King Of Carrot Flowers, Pt. 1 Well, simply put... it's the way a guitar sounds that is not referring to distortions. It's how much emphasis and brightness is put in the mid, the highs, the lows and how the blend together. These two songs have very similar chords -not the same, but very similar- but they sound different beyond a compositional level, because they have different tones.

That's a terrible solution. Especially with acoustic since it's much more often related to how they recorded it than the mix itself.
Also, tone is not used to describe guitars. It's used to describe guitars' tone.
