Can someone tell me easy way to draw clothing folds? Especially on the orange part.. Im just stuck.. Im drawing with a mouse, will probably get tablet in a week.
#62924 to #62915 - alleksi ONLINE (10/26/2014) [-]
I'm still shit at drawing clothing so take this with a grain of salt, but with clothes you get two kinds of folding/creases. Ones are due to stretching, the others are due to bagginess/looseness. It's the tense creases that are difficult. You gotta figure out from where the body is stretching the clothing. One part of the body is pulling the clothing, while the other part is blocking it on the other end, making it stretch. The creases either flow towards the point where the tension is highest (like the armpit in pic related), or just form between two pulling points (pic related next to the armpit picture.)
When one part gets pulled then the opposite side of it often gets pushed together, exception I suppose being if the clothes are really tight.

This is what I know, or what I think I know, someone tell me if I'm wrong.

First 2 are the first 2 pieces of my Portfolio/AP Art 24 piece concentration
My topic is contradictions

The left is life and death. Where life touches death, there is flesh and living tissue. Where death touches life, there is bone and wilted plants, and polluted water. Watercolor base with colored pencil on top

The middle is Night and day. My friend was the model for this, and shes very pale but with dark hair. Her face is warm vibrant colors for day, and her hair is the galaxy for night. All done in oil pastel

The right is an assignment to "capture your friends personality in the image". Shes very outdoorsy and loves nature and all that stuff. Water color with colored pencil on top

Currently working on "Surreal vs real" where i use a photo of a friend with doll halloween makeup. I just sketched up one of "beauty and ugly", where theres a mermaid on a rock, with beautiful hair and scales and all that for beauty obviously. But since her head is above water, she wears a gas mask (factories billowing pollution in the background). Theres a soda can plastic ring stuck near the end of her tail, constricting and deforming it, and a net tangling her torso.

Sorry for all the words. We just have to present these with explanations once every now and then and its nice to get a base of what to say about them.

Thoughts, criticism for future reference?

Ideas on future projects would be cool too since i have to do 22 more of these. Any picture showing opposites is fine, like:

any other thing with contradicting points works though

User avatar #62962 to #62949 - elitefourcaitlin (10/27/2014) [-]
Id rather get a "mean criticism" than keep on doing something wrong/bad so say whatever
#62965 to #62962 - anonexplains (10/27/2014) [-]
well ok then. to be brutally honest, I don't like them and I'll tell you why.

let's start with the subjects, they're all the same that use a girl's head and shoulders looking to her right with a lack of emotion and no sense of movement. I can only assume it's based off of you. I can't tell what the images are meant to represent just from looking at them which is probably not a good thing since that's what you want people to instantly know. you're use of colour is not too bad but it could be better, try using something other than water colour such as inks, pens, other materials and acrylics. I think you could make a much better representation of life and death than just showing a skeleton and a person, think about what life is and what it means to you rather than what the popular image of life is. same thing with death, death doesn't always mean skeleton or grim reaper. CONT in next post.
#62967 to #62965 - anonexplains (10/27/2014) [-]
use leading lines to create stronger shapes along with thicker outlines. look at other styles done by other artists, cubism, minimalism, impressionism, abstract. also research artists who have done pieces like yours, get some references.

don't try to make the person always look like a realistic person, don't make them good looking all the time.

some contradictions you could think of-
User avatar #62942 to #62890 - mcroflskates (10/26/2014) [-]
I really like the far right one. I'm not really a critic, though. What about using synonyms of those words, like instead of evil and good, it's something like peace and chaos? They have similar meanings but can be displayed very differently on paper. Could give you a few more ideas.
User avatar #62961 to #62942 - elitefourcaitlin (10/27/2014) [-]

If you want a decent tablet to start with, don't go with wacom. Their new line of basic intuos is pretty crap, they're only worth buying from IMO if you go for their higher quality Intuos Pro line. And then you're looking at dropping $330+. I suggest one of these
With that, over the intuos pen, you get triple the active area, higher resolution, higher pressure levels, hotkeys, for the same price.
User avatar #62849 to #62846 - rebornpotato (10/24/2014) [-]
Is the intuos pen a seperate item? or does it come with that link you gave?
User avatar #62859 to #62849 - citruslord ONLINE (10/24/2014) [-]
The intuos pen is a line of tablets by wacom. I was suggesting to start with the Huion, rather than a basic Intuos, since for the same price, you get alot more.
User avatar #62861 to #62859 - rebornpotato (10/24/2014) [-]
Ohh ok thanks, i'm getting that one you gave the link to now haha.
User avatar #62864 to #62861 - citruslord ONLINE (10/24/2014) [-]
It's a good one, just make sure you follow the instructions for installing drivers carefully.
User avatar #62847 to #62846 - citruslord ONLINE (10/24/2014) [-]
The only possible downside is that the Wacoms have a Battery-less pen. But the H610 pro comes with a pen with a good LI-Ion battery in it that lasts forever, and the pen weight isn't any different. All you have to do is charge it for an hour every now and again.
User avatar #62845 to #62844 - crimsonuruzuki (10/24/2014) [-]
Krita krita.org/download/krita-desktop/ is good, you could also acquire photoshop through some means.

wacom's intous pen series is good even though it's $80
