how many people prefer drawing with pencil (hand drawing) over tablet drawing? or the other way around, either or. which would you say is easier in your own opinion
User avatar #39788 to #39783 - oneironaut (11/06/2013) [-]
Depends on my mood. Sometimes I don't want to touch a pencil, sometimes I don't want to touch a tablet pen.
User avatar #39787 to #39783 - alleksi ONLINE (11/06/2013) [-]
both have their pros and cons. I like the feel of traditional pen and paper, though digital is just so convenient. I don't have a proper tablet so I'm not drawing digital at the moment.

You can also paint with digital without much effort so that's a plus.
I'd say that overall digital is "better", but traditional is nice too and I honestly appreciate a well drawn traditional piece over digital.

I would say that getting a good grip of your motor coordination is harder with a tablet, meaning that it's harder to get good strokes and visualize where to draw, since not looking at the surface that you're drawing on doesn't really come natural
User avatar #39786 to #39783 - Fucktackler (11/06/2013) [-]
I like and drawing until there is no crt+z to fix something i dislike in said drawing.
User avatar #39785 to #39783 - maguswaffy (11/06/2013) [-]
I would've picked hand drawing, but seeing how my vision is gradually getting worse by the day, digital drawing is more up my alley because i can zoom in without having to squint and make it look like i'm trying to read somebody's fortune.

So, we start drawing live nude models in my art class next week.
Should be interesting, but I feel like it may be a bit awkward at first. Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing?
User avatar #39747 to #39732 - treatedtoxic (11/05/2013) [-]
We had to draw a nude model in class, a very pregnant woman, it was kind of weird at first, but the class was mature about it, and then it was relaxed. It probably helped that the model didn't act like anything was going on, and she was very comfortable and funny throughout the whole thing. Basically, it won't be weird unless you mark it weird.
User avatar #39749 to #39747 - skysailor (11/05/2013) [-]
That seems like what will happen. I feel like it's going to be awkward for the first few minutes, but everyone will be absorbed in the art work soon after to even care.

it sounds fucked up but think of them as a piece of art, not a naked woman or man, just an object. and just draw them and do what the instructor says
User avatar #39736 to #39735 - skysailor (11/05/2013) [-]
I don't think that's fucked up. Actually, I'm pretty sure that's what you're supposed to do. Just see them as different values of light and as an object.
User avatar #39737 to #39736 - yeezus (11/05/2013) [-]
i mean, to someone who doesn't do art it sounds fucked up because of objectifying and whatnot
User avatar #39738 to #39737 - skysailor (11/05/2013) [-]
It might.

When I really lose focus on the specifics and just look at it for just values and such, I usually create a better piece.

I suppose that's better than considering them to be human beings and then pitching a tent in class.

Want to draw, but am bad.
Preferably on a computer, e.g. Photoshop, but i'm not going to invest in a graphics tablet unless I have a decent reason to.

What should I do 0.o
User avatar #39750 to #39729 - skysailor (11/05/2013) [-]
Utilize pencils, pens, and markers. It's amazing the kind of work you can do with a marker.
Once you start getting into it, invest in a graphic tablet. The Wacom Bamboo capture is really nice. It's the one I have and it's for about 100 bucks. It includes photoshop elements, autodesk sketchbook, and color effex pro. It's been a while since I got it, so they may have changed the deal.

Pen and paper
Then pencil and paper
Then colored pencil and paper
Then Pastel and paper
Then mouse and paint tool sai
Then $20 drawing pad and Sai
Then Good drawing pad and Sai
Then Good drawing pad and Photoshop
Then realize you have to get a job at Mc'Doanlds because nobody wants to buy your work
Then Have an artistic breakdown
Then beg parents forgiveness for wasting money on artcollege
Then go to practical college
Then draw parttime

Then, and only then, will you have made it
User avatar #39764 to #39731 - kothaex ONLINE (11/05/2013) [-]
I'm fully aware that an artist is an awful career choice and I don't plan on producing and selling works.
I'm taking a game design course at college, and like a whole 1/3 of it is concept art, though I don't have much to go on outside of college and concept art seems really fun.

Few questions, guys. If you could help, I'd be most grateful.

1. How do I make guys look more masculine/girls look more feminine, especially involving the face and head? Most of the pictures I try drawing wind up being kinda androgynous.

2. How do I draw things like a slime? Sorta like almost any humanized version of Grimer or Muk, or Suu from Monster Musume. With the effect of drippiness and stuff like that.
