Hey everyone. I'm an amateur sculptor and wanted to share some of my stuff with you guys.

This is a dragon I've been working on for a few months. Just finished the sculpting a few days ago.

"Is...is that a dick in the background?" Yes. I'm building an entry to compete in the Bad Dragon design contest. Don't judge meee. >.>

Should there be a NSFW art board?
User avatar #69597 to #69596 - groulgarigon (02/28/2015) [-]
That's pretty much the furry board. xD But those guys are kind weird. l:T Besides the more I post the less people will be willing to use that stupid roll image thang! I have a personal vendetta with that feature. lA

I mean, its nice and all, but don't dragons have legs a little bit different normally?
User avatar #69572 to #69570 - Underground (02/28/2015) [-]
I'm not sure what you mean by 'different' lol.

I've always done my dragons with exaggerated digitigrade legs because I like the mix of reptilian and mammilian to it. I kind of imagine dragons as having cat-like mannerisms in a way.

For some reason I've always detailed the bottoms of the feet. Dunno, it just feels weird not doing them.

She looks kinda patchy because shes supposed to be an 'adolescent' earth dragon. Her bark skin is infected with the mistletoe parasitic vine, and shes holding a part of it over her head like in the Christmas tradition of kissing under mistletoe. What do you guys think?

I made this poem mayne I think it's art.

Star crossed she said,
Fools Fortune she called,
Days go by,
And these words,
They litter my mind.
An infestation worst,
Than,
That known,
To mankind,
It's not love that I ask,
But rather a chance,
A chance so that love,
In time,
It may Grow,
I want to show,
I'm not just some guy,
That you just happen,
To have,
Just met online,
Time is of the essence,
For you and I,
We have many-a-months,
For this friendship to thrive,
Sometimes I shiver when you reply,
Isn't that weird?,
Yea, it's probably fear,
The thing I belive,
Is that,
We can create,
Something more beautiful,
Than your current date,
Something that lasts,
And ends up with cake,
A ring on your finger,
Passions that linger,
Fire that burns without needing tinder,
Nothing to lose,
But a whole lot to gain,
I ain't that bad,
I ain't quite the same,
just give me that chance,
and I will be bae.

I'm used to manga studios brush engine/layout,but lately,I've been looking into animating stuff, and PS does the job.
I use adobe at school, but never quite got the hang of drawing in photoshop,so maybe someone on here has some pointers how to get 'em to be more user friendly for drawing stuff. I do most stuff with a pen tool and airbrush tool,so there's not much to do.However,I have no fucking clue where to start tweaking the settings/modify brushes properly
User avatar #69557 to #69554 - alleksi ONLINE (02/28/2015) [-]
don't use PS for animating christ it sucks for it. Use tvpaint, it's great though it has a fairly steep learning curve.

The brush customization window is fairly straight forward in my opinion.

#69622 to #69546 - deadinferno (03/01/2015) [-]
Thanks!, yeah I'm still learning to draw hands that don't suck
Here's something a bit more recent the abs are a bit better imo
User avatar #69693 to #69622 - skabbalabba (03/01/2015) [-]
The easiest step you could take to fix the abs are to make them wider.
The bottom part of the abs you got here are at a pretty good width, but the ones above should also be about as wide.
#69694 to #69693 - deadinferno (03/01/2015) [-]
Okay, I think third time was the charm with this one
#69707 to #69694 - skabbalabba (03/01/2015) [-]
Here's a quickie fix, or whatever you wanna call it.
-Your hipbones should be as far out as your shoulderjoint, which means your waist should probably be a bit wider as well. This is not mandatory if you're going for some sorta style though.
-The ab problem now was that you sort of flipped the original. Now you had a narrow bottom, but good width top.
-Your shoulders looked as if the entire arm was rotated so that your palms face out in front of you, but the arm was palms-inward.
-Also note how the muscles of the forearm overlap one another (not here but in a real life anatomy image) as well as how the brachioradialis muscle (google it) overlaps the bicep.

Sorry it took some time, Gyazo is a fucking cancer. it's so much easier than a screenshot though, when it works...

Hahhah, yeah right, but that never happens.

All of those strokes were with the same colour selected
it's different based on where i start the line from
it does get darker if you start on the dark one but it doesn't show up too well
User avatar #69750 to #69524 - reikan (03/02/2015) [-]
I can help you if this is still a problem. What you're experiencing is the blending and dilution of the "paint" because you're using a brush. If you want solid strokes of the same color, say if you're filling in a large area, an easy way to avoid this is to either use the pen, or create you're own by right-clicking an empty square in the tools nav, and selecting pencil. The pencil/pen tool has no blending, only density, and won't pick up on other colors.
User avatar #69533 to #69524 - groulgarigon (02/28/2015) [-]
I can only assume dilution is what's affecting your brush. Turn that to 0 you should be good. Otherwise I dunno. Not too familiar with Sai

I work with children, and we got a box of dolls donated to our Children's House. Some of the dolls were Bratz dolls, which I am not a fan of. They look deformed. I saw a video of a woman who took the faces off of bratz dolls and painted on new ones that were more kid-friendly so I decided to try it. My sewing skills leave a lot to be desired, but I think it looks better.
User avatar #69488 to #69478 - tepidteal ONLINE (02/27/2015) [-]
You did a good job of the sewing. It's important to keep the stitches small and evenly spaced so that the turnout isn't wonky or get warped.

I never liked the Bratz dolls, too... like the whore of dolls. :/
User avatar #69579 to #69488 - delphine (02/28/2015) [-]
Thanks. I do a lot of sewing but I'm not used to hand-sewing at such a small scale... It'll take practice. I was a teen when Bratz first came out and therefor too old for dolls, but I was still horrified that parents would buy a Brat doll for their kids. I loved my American Girl doll because she looked like me, and because she came with books and stories.
User avatar #69486 to #69478 - mobilebull (02/27/2015) [-]

User avatar #69583 to #69486 - delphine (02/28/2015) [-]
I'm working on my masters in early childhood development.
They probably don't think about it, but it does affect their subconscious. Children learn through play. The kind of toys you give a child can support their cognitive growth and imagination. Dolls serve as aspirational roll models for young girls, and early exposure to dolls epitomizing an unrealistic ideal may distort girls' self image.

I get what you're trying to do, but both look creepy as fuck man. They both have disproportionate features which makes them look unnatural. Left doll has too big of eyes and lips, right has too small. If you're going to repaint a doll to look better, I'd suggest Barbie, though she is still wildly deformed compared to people, in doll form, that's as close as you're going to get.
